So Bobby was not the best at decorating a cake. In fact, you ended up shooing him off to help his brother set up the party before he dropped more frosting on the floor.
But that at least gave you some time to yourself to really finish decorating the cake in silence. You were starting to feel how exhausted the last work week had made you, so the peace and quiet felt almost therapeutic.
You found yourself smiling a little while writing out ‘Happy Birthday’ when you realized that your hectic week was ending at a 1-year-old’s birthday party. From mistaken identities to work trips to baking cakes, you really did get around.
You also realized how much you needed to plan some time for yourself. But right now, you just had to put the cake in the fridge and go celebrate a little.
You knew some of the other people that had shown up with their kids for Raon’s birthday party, so you were able to catch up with some of them. You even got to catch up with JeeYoung’s mother-in-law - one of the sweetest women you had the pleasure to meet and who was equally happy to see an extra familiar face. But by the time Raon had grabbed a chunk of his birthday cake, you were having trouble staying on your feet, let alone keeping your eyes open to chat with everyone.
Not wanting to be a party-pooper, you went back into the kitchen, away from all the hub-bub. You had just leaned your head back to rest when you heard someone else walk in.
You peeked through your eyelashes to see who it was, but when you noticed it was Jiun’s brother you closed them.
“Why are you back here when your family is out front?”
“Why are you sleeping here when all your friends are out front?” he quipped back.
You opened one eye again to see him smirking at you, but then closed them again.
“I’m just a little tired after a long week. But I wanted to stay and help clean up so I’m waiting.”
You heard a chair at the table scrape against the floor, so you assumed Jiwon was sitting down across from you.
“You know we can clean up ourselves. You’ve already done us a huge favor making his cake. Just head home to sleep if you’re tired.”
“Well I need to stay awake for a few more hours anyway or else I’ll mess up my days and nights.”
“Yeah JeeYoung said you had been traveling. Was it the West coast or something?”
Feeling bad for continuing to talk with your eyes closed, you righted your slouching in the chair and looked at the man sitting across from you.
You hadn’t really paid attention to him apart from the few minutes he was working on the cake, but you noticed his hair was flopping across one eyebrow, leaving the other with a metal bar through it exposed.
You almost forgot what he asked you, distracted by the shiny bar. And you would totally chalk this up to your sleep deprivation, but you were a bit curious how many other piercings he had...and where. When you caught yourself though, you blushed.
Shaking it off, you saw Jiwon had a slightly amused grin on his face but decided to ignore it.
“I was in mainland China for work. My flight actually just got in this morning.”
“Wait your flight got in this morning and you turned around and came here as soon as you landed?”
“I promised your sister-in-law.”
He was just shaking his head at you, like he thought you were crazy.
“Well if you want you could take a nap and I’ll wake you up when it’s over?”
You immediately stretched one arm across the table and laid down - as if you needed to be told twice.
“Promise to wake me up, Jiwon? Because this offer sounds too good to be true.”
Laughing, he got up from his chair.
“I promise. And you can call me Bobby by the way.”
“Alright, thank you...Bobby.”

"Y/N? Y/N everyone is leaving so you need to get up now. Y/N?”
You bolted up, limbs flying and a blanket? falling off of you as you tried to get your bearings.
“Whoa whoa there,” someone said.
You whipped around and saw Jiwon...Bobby. Slowly you started to remember where you were - Raon’s birthday party.
“Okay so someone doesn’t wake up easy. I’ll try and remember that in the future,” Bobby said, rubbing at his shoulder?
“Wait, did I hit you when I woke up?” you said, jumping out of your chair to take a look at the red mark that was definitely growing on his arm.
“I wouldn’t say you ‘hit’ me really. It was more of a harsh graze?”
You grabbed at his arm, turning it this way and that so you could get a good look. With the hold on his arm, you dragged him towards the fridge so you could get ice out of the freezer.
“Really, it’s not that bad. It doesn’t need ice I promise you.”
“Just humor me please? I’m not normally this violent I promise.”
Bobby just laughed at you and put his hand on yours to take the ice. You finally realized how close you were to him and that you were still grabbing his arm, so you let go and took a step back. What you didn’t realize was that the ice had melted onto the floor, so you immediately slipped and started to fall.
“Whoa!” Bobby yelled, moving to grab you, only to fall to the floor with you.
The two of you laid there in a daze for a few seconds, legs tangled, your head in his armpit with your arm trapped underneath is body.
Then the two of you just busted out laughing.
And tangled on the floor laughing was how JeeYoung and Jiun found you a few minutes later, to which they just plopped a laughing Raon down on Uncle Bobby and walked back out, talking about having to clean up the front.
You wiggled yourself into an upright position, scooping Raon off of his Uncle to give Bobby a chance to sit up too.
“Raon, wanna help me clean?”
“He can take my spot,” Bobby said, moving to sit down in a chair.
“Oh I don’t know about that. I think Uncle Bobby will actually be doing most of the clean-up, right Raon??” you said, tickling Raon to make him laugh again, bringing out your own smile.
You kept tickling him, rubbing your nose against his chubby cheeks and blowing raspberries all over his neck.
Bobby came up behind you and reached around, pulling at Raon’s smiley cheeks and literally saying “cootchie coo.” You felt his floppy bangs tickle your temple, so you froze, not sure what to do, until he pulled back again.
“Alright, I’ll clean since you did the cake, but on one condition.”
You settled Raon on your hip and the two of you looked at Bobby as he started moving dirty dishes to the sink.
“Let me make it up to you for how rude I was at the mall last week.”
“You really don’t have to, Bobby. I know JeeYoung said she laid into you, but everything is cleared up and I’m really okay.”
Leaning back against the counter, he stuffed his hands into his pockets and looked down.
“I know that, but I want to make it up to you anyway. On top of that, you’re one of the only people I still know in the area outside of my family, so it’ll be fun just to hang out I think. So what do you say, you in?” he finished, pulling his phone out of his pocket and handing it to you with the number-pad open.
You hesitated, not used to “hanging out” with many people since you were such a work-a-holic. But there was something about his soft smile, the way his eyes started to slightly crease, that kind of made you want to say yes. So before you could think about it anymore, you grabbed his phone and put your number in.
After that, his mom came into the kitchen to find her grandson to put him down for a nap. You took that as your queue, since you didn’t want to hang around too long, and headed out.
Bobby watched from the doorway as you waved and got in your car to head home. When you finally made it back, you flipped the lights on in your apartment, noting the luggage that had just been thrown in different directions as you had rushed to get ready earlier.
You walked by most of it, heading to the fridge to grab a water as your energy started to plummet after the long and...interesting...day you had just had.
You pulled out your phone after you felt it buzz, and the message you saw had you spitting water all over your screen.
Bobby: By the way - this is totally a date ;)
