Would you do Nick Fury for the character meme thing?
Of course I would. I love to talk about Nick Fury.
How I feel about this character?
(*Cracks knuckles* Are you ready for Nick Fury ramblings, because you’re gonna get them.
I love this character okay. Love, love, LOVE HIM. He’s such a wonderfully cynical character who mistrusts everyone. He’s not the star eyed idealist like Coulson. He’s not from a background of power. He’s a person, who’s grandpa was a liftman, and his reality is that police will randomly stop him to ask for his licence because he’s a visibly disabled black man driving a nice SUV. He’s someone who’s taken power, who’s risen through the ranks.
And yet he’s also charismatic, and almost childlike in his beliefs, and he also genuinely likes people even if he can’t trust them. (You can’t do what he’s done if you hated people, I’m sorry you just cannot.) And he uses his cynicism and mistrust to make the world a better and more idealistic place. He takes hard decisions knowing that it’s very possible that lives will be lost, lives that cannot be saved, knowing that the weight of all those deaths are on him. And he still soldiers through that.
(And you know what, this is also what draws people to him. Is why he can inspire such fierce loyalty in people like Natasha and Melinda and Maria and Coulson. Why he can influentially lead an organisation like SHIELD)
You know why? Because through everything, through all the shit he’s witnessed and more likely experienced; Nick Fury still believes in heroes. He still believes in the good in humanity.
He’s the one in Avengers to try and reason with the counsel to not blow up New York. He’s the one who brings the Avengers together.
I’ve said it before, but Nick Fury is a guardian. He’s a protector. He’s the person who’d wade through the muck and sludge of humanity for it. There’s flint in his bones, maybe diamond too, battered and cracked and bruised, rounded at other places, from being worn down, from all the damage he’s taken, because he acts like a cage that protects humanity from the outsiders who would destroy it, and from their own failings that would destroy them.
He took SHIELD after Peggy Carter and furthered it. He created the Avengers initiative to avenge any wrongdoing to the human race as a whole, because he’s climbed, and crawled his way to a place where he could do that. But they wouldn’t be if he didn’t believe humanity to be worth protecting.
And yes I quote this a hundred times ever since that one episode of AoS, but Nick Fury is essentially the Sam Vimes of the MCU. He’s the Guarding Dark fo the MCU. Because his organisation was the Watchmen that kept otherworldy forces and the darkness out, and he was the one who kept them in line (as much as he could.)
Nick Fury is a more a hero than the actual superheroes in the MCU, fight me.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Okay my OT3 is obviously Melinda May/Nick Fury/Phil Coulson. But I also ship him with a plethora of people like: Rhodey, Sam Wilson, Clint Barton, Bucky Barnes, everyone? Like basically my thought process for a Nick Fury ship is: “Will this person make Nick happy? Yes? Okay its a ship.”
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Nick Fury and Natasha Romanoff. Their father daughter relationship makes me so happy, and don’t you tell me it’s not canon, because it clearly is okay. They’re good for each other. Nick centres Natasha. And it’s not just Cap2. It’s Iron Man 2 in the diner scene. And go back to Avengers and watch her reaction to Thor when he disses Fury. It’s subtle but there’s a definite evil sideeye when it happens. And one day I will start a series of headcanons titled “Shit Natasha does to people that diss her pseudo dad Nick Fury.” and personally I feel it will be glorious okay.
My unpopular opinion about this character
90% of my opinions would be considered unpopular sine a huge chunk of the fandom believes in that “Nick Fury lies” BS.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I’ve already talked about it here: http://uncontinuous.tumblr.com/post/109278750745/tbh-the-next-mcu-tv-series-should-be-about-nick
