I am such a picky lil shit with such specific tastes and endless critiques of the media I consume, I can't believe there was a time I absorbed everything around me and didn't even have the categories to place the things I liked in (e.g. music), never spoke out definitely on what was 'good' and what was not and thought myself immature for it. I felt only older more experienced people would speak so confidently about their likes and - dislikes especially. Or rather the judgement of quality. An yae see. It has turned out to be truth. Truly as one grows older, one starts recognising rechewing the same old curd, and begins to crave variety - suprise! Novelty!! Patterns turned upside down, structures thrown around, aesthetic flipped. As one grows older, one finds categories or manages to at least construct lists of likes. As one grows older, time shortens! Time becomes precious and anyway - not everything can be granted attention in the world. It must be worth it. One learns to weigh pros and cons, to recognise the personally enjoyable and the things that cannot be forgiven. Before, during and after the fact, readying a stamp of (dis)approval, filed away carefully in relation to later decisions. Picky yes.
