Noel: Liam was driving around the [Knebworth] site at about 9 o'clock this morning, off his head with his, uh... with his fiancée, in a golf buggy, chanting some uh... I don't know.
Jo: Oh, right!
Jo: Can you see yourself as best man at some point?
Noel: I suppose I'll have to be, yeah. Erm... He was asking me that the other day, he was going, will you be the best man. So I said, yeah.
Jo: So there is going to be a wedding then? It's not just one of those engagements for—
Noel (interrupts): You'll have to ask them two, really. But I would imagine sooner or later there will be.
Former Noel’s House Party host Edmonds, 74, previously advertised it for £4million in 2018, before moving to New Zealand.
The three-floor pad in Grasse — the world’s perfume capital — has multiple engravings of his first name, which he shared with Liam’s brother and ex-bandmate.
Despite this, Liam cannot wait to spend time there with fiance Debbie Gwyther, 39, who speaks French.
A source said: “Liam’s been telling mates, ‘I’ve bought Mr Blobby’s house.’ Him and Debbie plan to put their own stamp on it. They think all the carvings of Noel’s name are quite funny and ironic.”
Have you done the interior- the design... of the place in France?
No, it was already done man... It used to be Noel Edmonds' and that, which was, which was cool and that and like, uh, he made a, he made a lovely job of it and uh. So I won't, I won't be doing anything. I won't be touching it, it's all, it's all good.
John, talking about his "sexual awakening" song: "It's by no means a sexy song, and it's quite uncool, but, uh, the one that reminds me of sexual awakenings is, I was at school and I was in love with this girl called Melissa, and she was a year above or below me, I can't remember. She was going out with this really hard geezer, who was the cock of the school and no one should mess with him, but we all went on a school trip to France, and... it was "Take On Me" by a-ha. I remember it so clearly, and it just reminds me of that trip to France, and we had a little... yeah, we sort of got into bed together with all our clothes on and it was incredible."
Do you guys know that series BBC Sounds did on Britpop a while ago, the ‘Rise and Fall’ one? They did an Oasis one last year, comically close to the reunion announcement where they apparently had no idea, but obviously had to come back for a final episode when the rumours did turn out to be true. I’m guessing the did it because of Definitely Maybe’s 30th, but I’m forgetting now. Or maybe just because the Britpop one was so successful. They’re doing 2000s ‘indie sleaze’ now, and it’s as messy but a little less exciting to me. I think there’s enough in the decade, they just didn’t dive into it all that well. Meet Me In The Bathroom does a better job (though this is specific to the U.K. scene, being the BBC).
Still, if you’ve heard the Oasis one, The Rise And Fall Of Oasis, there’s a bit in there where Jo Whiley, who is one of the two presenters and was at ground zero from working on the Radio 1 Evening show back in 93, 94, she’s spoken to the boys loads, interviewed the band many times, the folks at Creation, backstage at shows, everyone. And there’s a moment where it’s all going wrong for them, particularly Liam, and Jo has a moment of weakness where she makes a sort of ‘awwhh’ noise like her heart is breaking and then notices that and mentions how Liam does sort of bring out a maternal instinct in her.
I can 100% bet she was not the only one. I think Noel knew that too, it’s why they made Liam the face and image of the band. Half of those girls that were lusting after Liam in the 90s: the teens, but also the many, many, many older women that were constantly infatuated with Oasis, there was definitely a sort of ‘I can fix him’ appeal to Liam. He looked young, utterly lost and clueless and had sad eyes and whispers of a sad story. He’s a vilified bad boy in the press. He’s what, 23?
Yeah, the Oasis appeal would not have survived purely on the 16 year old girls and the teenage football lads or whoever. Where would we be without the Oasis mums. Oasis certainly wouldn’t be that big I’m sure. Also that same feeling is now coming out of everyone in the form of ‘I’m so glad he’s made up with his brother. We’re all so happy that they’re together again’. It feels like watching the satisfying conclusion of the guy being ‘fixed’: he’s got the one thing he needed again. And I don’t think this feeling would’ve been half as strong if the brothers had indeed made up again in like 2012. By 2019, Liam’s efforts at it were tugging at the press and public’s heart strings. Anytime after that and we absolutely knew it was going to be massive.
I’m not one of those people that believes they did it for the money, I’ve followed Liam on Twitter for too long to genuinely believe that. The royalties they’ll be getting for Wonderwall alone are going to see them through to a lifetime of comfort, don’t believe anyone that says there’s no money left in music. It just isn’t at the grassroots anymore, and I’m happy to chat about that any day. No. There’s still money in music, and there’s enough of it for the Gallaghers.
This reunion wasn’t for the money, definitely not to Liam, and he’s the one that’s been pushing for it. (Noel gets sole songwriting credits on most songs so Noel’s getting the PRS cheques. He’ll be more than fine.) But the narrative of this reunion couldn’t have worked out a more compelling story, whether accidental or on purpose. Liam’s still got that allure where you just feel like you’ve got immense space in your heart for him, I reckon he’s got away with a ton of shit thanks to it, but good to see the allure is still there. Unbelievable.
JO: There's a moment when you are all together and Damon breaks down crying, how was that for you?
GRAHAM: Funny! No, no, it wasn't funny, I was very concerned because both of us had very heavy times, and you know, and I just got to Devon, and it's the first playback of him having got all his vocals together. And it's all very well, you know, writing words down in the back of a taxi or whatever, thinking "yeah that'll work" and sing it, but it's a really weird thing with lyrics when you suddenly breathe life into them, singing them into a microphone and having them play back to you, it gains this tremendous power. I completely understand why he felt uncomfortable or emotional.
JO: Damon is very complex, you never know what Damon you're gonna get…
GRAHAM: It's always the same one to me.
JO: Is it? Which is…?
GRAHAM: Which is... Hang on a minute.
JO: What is he to you?
GRAHAM: He is always very caring, very generous, mischievous. And I suppose within that mischievous is where he's talking about.
JO: He gets angry a couple of times…
GRAHAM: We all had a good paddy. I love when Damon just lets it go, that's probably needed for him, because it was stressful, and some of my funniest memories are from Damon just losing it, having a massive tantrum. He comes out of it pretty quick, but at the time, the intensity of it… is just... you can't do much more than just laugh at it. We are beyond offending each other, that's the thing about Damon, he is pretty unoffendable, and me too.

"We have fights and call each other all the names under the sun, but it doesn't mean anything. At the end of the day, we'd all die for each other."
Noel Gallagher, Radio One, Tuesday August 20
"By the reaction in Rosemont, it would seem most fans don't give a damn about Liam. He should be careful. No-one is indispensable."
Spokeswoman, Palace venue, Michigan, USA, Tuesday August 27
There is a saying that a week is a long time in politics — but it can be even longer in pop music.
On August 20, Noel Gallagher, triumphant after Knebworth and on the eve of their Conquer-American tour, presented Radio One's Evening Session. He talked about the band's phenomenal success and about how close they all are.
Seven days later, he was taking the stage in Rosemont, USA, as lead vocalist/guitarist at the beginning of Oasis' most important tour to date. Liam was back in the UK — either "looking for a house", "suffering from tonsillitis", "having therapy", "leaving the band" or "being bossed around by Patsy", depending on which paper you read.
But here's the real story — the truth about what really happened that week...
TUESDAY AUGUST 20
Noel stands in for Steve Lamacq and joins Jo Whiley on Radio One, giving his frank and humorous views on the state of Oasis.
Q: Who's your favourite member of Oasis?
Noel: Er ... Liam.
Q: What's your relationship with him like?
Noel: Pretty good, actually.
Q: When did it change? You're getting on well at the moment...
Noel: When we moved to London, really ... I suppose we lean on each other because we've become so big and he gets a lot of hassle from the press. Lately, it's been really out of order. There are some things that have happened between him and Patsy that I wouldn't even go through ... It certainly ain't good for him or her. I feel sorry for him sometimes.
Q: Do you ever actually hit Liam?
Noel: Oh yeah, absolutely. The last time was when we were recording Morning Glory.
Q: Can you see a time when it's going to get boring for you?
Noel: To be in a band with Bonehead and Liam Gallagher, let me tell you, is not boring.
Q: What's the next single going to be, then?
Noel: Either My Big Mouth or It's Getting Better, Man. We won't know until we record, but it's gonna be mega.
Q: Of course, and when might we see that?
Noel: On whatever day Blur's next single comes out.
Q: Are you still friendly with Blur, then?
Noel: No, I hate them. ****heads!
FRIDAY AUGUST 23
An Oasis competition is announced in the media for 400 lucky winners to see Oasis perform an MTV Unplugged session at London's Royal Festival Hall. Newspaper and radio hotlines are jammed, but sadly things are not quite 'alright on the night' and, after much coughing and croaking in rehearsals, Liam is forced to quit the gig, due to a ropey throat. Noel heroically takes over and Liam and Patsy snuggle up in the posh Royal Box to watch the performance. [Tumblr editor's note in 2026: NOT TRUE Patsy was elsewhere doing promotion for her own work at the time. She was not at this gig.]
SATURDAY AUGUST 24/SUNDAY AUGUST 25
Splashed all over the papers are claims that fans attending the bash weren't v. chuffed at Liam's non-performance. One declares the gig "a big flop" and reckon MTV are "very disappointed" and may not screen the concert. Indeed, an MTV spokeslady told Smash Hits, "It's still undecided when it will be shown." Hmmmm. A "voice expert" warns that Liam's warble may vanish altogether in five years time if he doesn't practise a proper "vocal technique". Gulp! Another tale emerges that the Gallaghers' Pa has been put in the 'slammer' for a month for driving while banned. Oh dear — it's true!
MONDAY AUGUST 26
Things go quiet as the band prepare for their humongous American tour. But then...
