ok i'm rewatching derry girls (you can probably tell from my reblogs lol) and so this is who i think the characters fit in the marauders fandom (based on personality, not looks)(also unless i explicitly mention the relationship, pretend characters aren't related.):

erin- she's so Lily to me. Like yes she wants to be a writer. yes she's the main character. yes she's in love with James. ofc.

orla- i've already made a post about this, but she's SO Sybill to me. personality AND looks wise tbh. i love her. if i was making her one of the ACTUAL marauders, she'd 100% be peter. no questions asked.

james- cmon. it's James. maaayyyybe Peter. but like. James.

michelle- either Sirius or Marlene. probably Marlene.

clare- 10000% Remus. i'm right. you know it.

mary- Euphemia. she just is.

So since I am writing James x Erin kids as characters and was curious about the existence of other J/E kids within the fandom, a while ago I found every fic on AO3 where they have children (or as many as possible, I mainly used the ship tag for this mini-project, and I haven’t the faintest if there’s fanfics anywhere else with fan children for the characters - I don’t think so…) and put them in a list to see if there was any reoccuring patters in the names for possible J/E children:

First thing I noticed apart from the names was just how many more times they had girls so it seems everyone agrees they are girl parents cause most of the time, when they had a boy, he was accompanied with a sister or several sisters.

Second was how much people think they’d be into naming their children after family: around fifteen names on the list are in some way or another related to a relative, with the most reoccuring relatives being Joe and Michelle tied at four names.

Third was that several of these are meant to be Doctor Who references of some kind (sometimes anachronistic ones - imagine my eye twitching at the name Clara being a Doctor Who reference when the child was born in 2005 in the story she was in - and listen, you can swear she was named after Elizabeth Sladen but I won’t believe ‘em because it was said to be named after a character not actor.) - or at the very least, references to something from the show they liked: from my ‘verse Dolores (Dolly) was named for the Cranberries because their music is so tied to Derry Girls and her nickname is Dolly because of ‘Swear on Dolly’

Most common J/E kid initials are M and J again, cause of the names inspired by Joe and Michelle and the least occurring is a B, H, K, N and P only once.

Some fun facts about my names:

- Because they had given Matilda the middle name of Michelle and given Dolly the middle name of Marie, they kinda felt obligated to give Joseph an ‘M’ middle name to keep the flow and were so close to either naming him Joseph Martin Maguire or just Joseph M. Maguire (Kathy: Well well, not so easy to pick a middle name is it?) and last minute Erin picked the name Mackenzie. This was because I thought it would be fun if Matilda had an original first name/legacy middle name and Joseph had a legacy first name/original middle name.

- Erin was so sure she was having a boy during her first pregnancy (“There’s so many girls in our family and life that I expect a girl, which means he’s definitely a boy.”) that she insisted on picking the boy name and was so wrong so James ended up naming Matilda - not consciously after Matilda (the movie version) but a bit subconsciously - when he thinks of their little girl he sees someone smart, kind, empathetic and brave and that’s the name he naturally gravitated to. Erin was free to veto if she wanted to, but when she heard it, it felt right.

- She then called dibs on naming their next child regardless of gender so they had Dolores named by Erin and by the time they were surprised with Joseph, there was really only one name they were going to give him when they found out he was a boy because Joe had been dead for a bit at that point.

- Erin is the tiniest bit sore that everyone calls Dolores ‘Dolly’ because people think that’s her real name and assume she was named for Dolly Parton not Dolores O’Riordan and she has to keep explaining it. She will always use Dolores over Dolly despite James, Matilda, Mary and Gerry, the Girls and everyone else not ever doing the same - (and if she does use Dolly she is usually pissed and Dolly is aware of this - it’s the reverse of parents using full names when mad, when Erin says Dolly, Dolly knows she’s stepped in it.) Dolly doesn’t mind, she doesn’t hate the name Dolores or anything, she’s just always been Dolly.
