some silly joevex for the hungry, can also be read here on ao3 (560 words, contains some mentions of blood and vexes feeding but nothing very detailed)

distractions

“Oh, hey guys,” Joe greeted as the door creaked open somewhere behind him, letting two blood-drenched vexes into the dimly lit base. They looked tired but content, heavily leaning on each other as they entered.

This seemed to be a weekly routine for them, getting whatever vex-business they engaged in done and appearing at the doorstep of his base late at night. Joe liked that, the routine. As much as he also enjoyed some good chaos and disorder, it was easier to plan things like this. He liked being there when Cub and Scar arrived

“Joe!” Scar cheered happily through his obvious exhaustion, just as excited as he was every time. He quickly made his way over to where Joe was sitting on the couch, sitting down next to him to snuggle to his side. Scar sounded a bit magic-drunk, muttering something about how glad he was to see him, before pressing a kiss to his cheek. There was surely blood on Joe's face now, too.

Joe looked at the knitting needles in his hands, trying to decide whether he should put them away or not. The green yarn curled on the floor and his lap like vines, forming patterns he would love to scribble down if he had time for that. Unfortunately, as much as he wasn’t really bothered by time, it was still a limited resource.

He had gotten distracted, what was meant to be a neatly knit square was approximately two and a half squares too long, and not nearly as even around the edges as he had hoped for. He wasn’t too bothered, it would have been a shame to disturb such a good workflow anyway. He could always change his plans or take apart the extra rows, even though neither idea seemed too appealing.

“Scar, you should at least get cleaned up before going near Joe’s crafts,” came Cub’s voice, effectively snapping him from his thoughts. Ah, he had gotten distracted again, from his original distraction. Distractionception. “You’ll get blood on the yarn.”

They spoke at the same time. “Joe doesn’t mind,” Scar whined as he leaned his head on his shoulder. “I don’t mind,” Joe confirmed.

He really didn’t mind. Sure, it would be a shame to get blood on the knitting, it would be a pain to clean, but that didn’t mean he minded. There was a sigh from Cub before the sound of water running came from the kitchen. Cub was always careful to not get blood on things that didn’t need blood on them - Joe could definitely appreciate that.

Joe was still staring at the not-really-a-square in his hands when Cub flopped down on the couch, taking the empty seat next to him. Blood was gone from his face and hands, and his dirty coat had been discarded somewhere. He was quiet as he leaned against Joe, Scar already fast asleep on his other side.

He really should put the knitting needles down, it’s not like he could work with both of the vexes leaning against him like this. Not that this square in particular needed any more work on it either. Maybe this was a good thing after all, Scar and Cub stopping him from overworking himself by distracting him from overworking the knitting. Huh.

Maybe there was some deeper meaning in this as well, like there was in everything.

Joe had to help Cub and Scar out of a horrible relationship with Dark and Baddubs. Like Joe's had to remove a door and use a bolt cutter to get the ankle chains before getting all their essentials and running. They're staying with them till they get on their feet. Now, Joe absolutely did not go in expecting a relationship(his moral code doesn't allow him to be an r/niceguy post), but damn if they didn't develop a crush oh him for saving them.

Well, there is a theory that going through unique experiences together forms bonds, and it don’t get more unique than a jail break.

Scar loves flowers. They feel soft and silky against his skin and they're pretty too. He always keeps some around his base to stim with if he gets stressed. When Joe and Cub find out, they put flowers everywhere they think Scar may go - including their bedrooms.

It slightly backfires when Scar is more interested in the petals than in the romantic scene his boyfriends set up. Oh well, at least he’s happy!

Joe: Look, you don't want Scar to die again. And I don't want Scar to die again. So let's work together to make sure Scar doesn't die again.

Cub: Good plan, but have you ever even met Scar?

Joe is a seer, and sometimes he has visions of horrible events happening in other worlds and they terrify him. He's usually kept up at night by visions of a server collapsing, and he always feels horrible when he can't do anything about them. Cub and Scar try to comfort him as best as they can, and if Joe has gone a long amount of time without sleep because of his visions they'll make a deal with the vex so they can use their magic to give Joe a peaceful sleep. They cuddle with him to help too.

Cub and Scar try to convince Joe to use magic to suppress the visions, but he refuses. What if they make the difference between life and death?

Neither Cub nor Scar knows how they get along so well with Joe. They spent a long time focused on hoarding money, and tend to play Minecraft more traditionally, whereas Joe follows no man’s rules and is a downright cryptid. They’re not even entirely sure It is human, Scar’s even seen Joe phase Its torso out of existence on occasion. Even so, there’s no one else who would slip little love poems into their bases to make them smile.
