thoughts on archie the musical? how would you rank the songs?

I just watched this episode and I am OBSESSED, I can tell you that much. I love the meta theme of the characters being forced into their comic personas, à la heteronormativity, and branching out to decide their own paths. Admittedly I only listened to 3 of the songs on the reg prior to watching the episode and the others I’ve only heard once so my ranking might be a lil messy but let’s try it:

Friday Valentine. By far my favorite musically, it’s so fun and boppy. I’m also a big fan of the Betty/Veronica rivalry in the comics, and since the show pretty much never does that I’m giddy whenever they nod at it. The girls are fightinggggg

The Universe Inside. I liked this one before watching the episode but the full scene makes it so much better. The lyrics perfectly lay out the parallels between Betty and Veronica that stretch across seven seasons, and why they’re the best matches for each other romantically. They see through each other, better than anyone else. I’ve seen ppl compare this to the Space Between but honestly? This is their For Good

Archie’s All-American. Every time there’s a beat of silence in a conversation I fill it with “Archie going left Archie going right.” Such a funny song but, similar to The Universe Inside, it lays out Archie’s arc very well!!

I Got Two. This song is sooooooo polyamorous bisexual core. I was already ecstatic abt the Beronchie while watching it and then Archie looked away from them to stare longingly at Reggie and Jughead, equally conflicted, and I actually screamed. Need the three of them drawn on a milkshake asap

Do You Know What It’s Like? This song is such a mess. The lyrics are bad, it really doesn’t sound good, it’s a lesser version of Unlikely Lovers. That being said, the lyrics are SO bad that I was cackling the entire time. “I’d fight a guy for you,” “I’d fight a girl for you” both sound so awkward and clunky and they are now forever stuck in my head. Also the fact that it’s Choni gives me a soft spot for it

This Is Love. Clevin has rapidly become my favorite Kevin ship, and not just because of the comics. They’re so perfect together, and their relationship isn’t plagued by toxicity from outside forces like all Kevin’s past relationships were. Normally I don’t rly care abt his love plot lines but they managed to make me super happy abt this duet. They’re kinda Klaine variants when you think abt it

Finale (Our Song). This one made me super emotional??? I was eating up the cheesiness of the entire cast walking in, one by one. And on top of that, it’s actually a bop!!! They ate this one I can’t lie

Prom Night. Super fun. Kevin wasn’t kidding when he said Julian is better at playing Archie than Archie is. Also the part where all the girls sing “Archieeeeee” scratches my brain right

Monday, Senior Year. I don’t dislike it at all, in fact I was thriving while watching this. It’s so fucking fun. That being said it didn’t stand out to me as much as the others did

Anywayssss this is probably my second favorite Riverdale musical ep. Actually wait maybe third. Nothing can beat Big Fun and I loved American Psychos for what it did for Betty’s character…idk let’s not pit six baddies against each other

It may seem like gloating, but when I point out that they’re Riverdale’s only endgame’s, I’m really highlighting how incredible and important it is that the only confirmed end ships were both lgbtq+. In a show where they were often mistreated, this means EVERYTHING. 🙌

Hermit Rarepair Event Trial Week Starts Tomorrow!
