Watching/listening to Elisabeth is sometimes (often) painful, for a lot of reasons, but sometimes there are actors like Johan Samuelsson, who seem to just understand the part so well, and bring their own style to it, and make Elisabeth into something else entirely.

It’s official - my favorite der Tod understudy is Johan Samuelsson. His hair looks like feathers and he’s got this incredible timbre to his voice. He looks perfectly otherworldly and graceful (a murderous sort of graceful, like Mads Mikkelsen in Hannibal) in every scene and almost androgynous.

Thing I am fangirling out over today: Elisabeth, Mach Auf Mein Engel, with a cast I really haven't heard before: Christian Müller, Maika Boerdam (though 'course I know her), and Johan Samuelsson.

Right off the bat, I'm seriously impressed with Christian's Franz-Joseph. He's genuinely sympathetic, and has a great voice. Not to mention that's a hell of an impressive high note.

Of course I love Maike, but I couldn't pay too much attention to her, because right after her part came the best part of the vid...

I have never heard of Johan before. He must be either an alternate cast of an understudy, but I had no clue he'd ever played Death. And I ask: WHY?!

I just...cannot even describe how fantastic he is right here. His acting is delicate and genuine - he feels warm instead of how cold Deaths usually are in this scene. You can tell he (the character) really does feel something for Elisabeth.

And then his voice. GAH that is pure distilled beauty in a music section. I just...it's heavenly.

And, although it's not important, he IS pretty as hell. He reminds me of Jesper, actually. That's always a good thing.

TL;DR: HOLY CRAP THIS IS FANTASTIC I'LL JUST FANGIRL OVER JOHAN NOW.
