NPR journalist Cazey Rentz reports on the misdiagnosis of children with autism. According to a study in 2007 from the Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities Research and Epidemiology, University of Pennsylvania, Black and Latin American children are 5 times more likely to be misdiagnosed than their white peers, and often don’t get a proper diagnosis until their older. This article briefly summarizes the classism, racism, and ableism that bars parents from seeking treatment & counseling to help their children become confident and successful in their academic, professional, and personal pursuits. Due to many factors that include but are not limited accessibility to healthcare, environmental racism, lack of school intervention, normalized behaviors, and lack of accessible medical information. This article takes roughly 5 minutes or so to read, and cites several mixed studies across the U.S. that range from 2001 - 2017.
Redefining Open Relationshps
An Open Relationship may imply sexual undertones. However, being "open" is completely interpretational. Some couples may be sexually exclusive, but define their open relationship as being romantically open to others. This could be in the form of casual dates, kissing someone else, and so on. Other couples may define their open relationship as being open to dating others simultaneously. This doesn't necessarily mean polyamory. You're creating a trusting relationship together. How you define it and what it means is entirely up to you. What works for one person doesn't work for everyone. Being "open" is what you make it. Explore you're relationship with yourself, as well as your partner and ask yourself if being open is something you'd like to consider in some way or another~
