Happy 79 Birthday to John Callen.
ooo #22 and 23 for the salty ask list please?
Thank you so much for your ask! 💙
22. Popular character you hate?
Oh boy, that's tough! To be honest, I don't think I hate any of the popular characters. Even if some may annoy me, they still have traits I appreciate. I mostly have issues with some of the movie characters.
Legolas - Please forgive me for this one. I adore him in LOTR (especially in the books!), but I think The Hobbit movies did him a disservice. First they made him a part of that strange love triangle, and then, in a movie about the quest of a group of dwarves and a hobbit, they made him steal their thunder during BOTFA. I understand that this decision was made by the filmmakers in order to make more Legolas fans want to see the movies but - in my opinion - doing the repeat of "rubber/antigrav Legolas" was not the cleverest idea. YMMV.
Goblin King - I know that his movie version is admired by many, especially because of Barry Humphries taking on this role. He did a great job there, but the portrayal is just not my cup of tea, I did not find him as funny as I imagined I would (I just have a weird sense of humor, I know many people think he was hilarious, and that's great! Personal preferences, you know).
Beorn - I hate it that there was not enough of him in the movies 😭
What about you? I'd love to hear what popular characters you dislike and why 👀 23. Unpopular character you love?
Okay, here, I understand "unpopular" as a character that is not necessarily a baddie, but more of a background character in The Hobbit. And it's definitely Óin! I adore this elderly and well-read dwarf, a healer (now you know who invented "OINtment", right?), a master of starting fires even in the toughest of conditions. He may seem comical in some scenes in the movies but I think his ear trumpet just adds a lot to the depth of his character - despite his disability, he still decides to join the Quest! And then just look at his fancy beard braids, he's such a great character (and John Callen made him really come to life!). I wish we had more of him in the movies!
im begging u all to look at john callen’s jacket
I have nothing against people making money, but what I object to, is that they make money off the poverty of other people. They create poverty.
