Hassabis and Jumper won the Nobel Prize in physiology and do you know what they did? They gave away the 3-D protein folding models to the public domain for free.
They could have sold this technology to biotech, but they gave it away.
Now Hassabis is working on AI models in medicine under Google.
mRNA vaccine models to treat cancers have been extremely promising in clinical trials, and mRNA sequences can be generated from AI data analysis of the human genome. Yes, Trump cancelled all research in mRNA vaccine research in the USA, but luckily researchers around the world are pursuing ways to treat incurable cancers.
I think if we look elsewhere, there’s a lot of exciting stuff happening, but it needs time and space and researchers. It is on pause in the USA, but this won’t last forever.
