JOHN WICK
The events of the first John Wick movie happened. He’s got Dog, he’s got his car back and Santio didn’t come and bother him so he hasn’t had very much to do.
He starts to become isolated, he spends all that time alone in his house. His only company is Dog but he’s starved of human contact, except for his weekly visits to Aurelio’s garage to check on the progress of his car repairs during which Aurelio remarks how John needs to ‘get out more.’
He suggests some type of bounty work, kind of like Tracker in JW4, let’s say that type of business isn’t directly afflicted with the high table as long as you do it right and keep your nose clean. It’s the type of work that would be a walk in the park for someone like John Wick, easy money and it’ll give him something to keep him occupied, but John isn’t interested. He doesn’t want to hurt people anymore, he insists he is content with his life as it is but Aurelio isn’t convinced, he can see he’s depressed and lonely.
Aurelio suggests he should at least try and find someone, John is even more against this idea. At this point he isn’t interested in finding another partner and he doesn’t believe he ever will be. However, there are certain things he misses, going on dates, the conversations, taking care of someone but he feels it wouldn’t be right to date when his heart is not really in it, he doesn’t want to feel as though he’s stringing anyone along.
That’s when Aurelio, half-joking, brings up escort work. It takes out all the complicated and messy feelings involved with real dating. He doesn’t have to worry about stringing anyone along because it would be a purely transactional service. It’ll get him out of the house, some human interaction and he’ll earn some money. (not that he needs it but it’s always a bonus.)
He discovers he actually really enjoys it and he’s good at it. One of his favourite parts about being with Helen was spoiling her, performing acts of service and romancing her. This allows him to do all those things without any attachments. He doesn’t sleep with his clients, it’s strictly dates. I headcanon him as demisexual so he doesn’t really experience sexual attraction unless there are feelings involved. He does on occasion have to stop a few clients when they try to take things further - who can blame them? But he’s really sweet at letting them down gently.
He’s been doing escort work for about six months by the time you hire him, however this job is a little different, it requires travelling for a destination wedding which means multiple days. By this point, he’s only ever done single dates but he reasons that a few days away would be a nice change and he leaves Dog in the care of Charon.
READER
You’ve been invited to your exes destination wedding. This is a disaster.
It’s a disaster because you still haven’t quite gotten over him. You’re coworkers, you see. You work at the same hospital - it’s Dr. Julian Mercer.
“It’s a plus one so you can bring your boyfriend along, it’ll be nice to finally meet him.” he cordially dropped the wedding invitation on your desk.
The thing is, you don’t actually have a boyfriend. That was just something you made up in a moment of panic and you’ve been desperately clinging to the lie ever since. In reality, you’re tragically single and you haven’t dated anyone since your relationship with Julian ended. To say you were freaking out would be an understatement.
What were you going to do? You thought about skipping the whole thing entirely, telling him your (nonexistent) relationship ended and you’re just not in the right headspace to attend a wedding so soon after a break up. No! Pretending to be going through a break up while your ex is getting happily married would be even more tragic than being single. What kind of mess have you gotten yourself into?
Confiding in your best friend, you tell her your predicament. Of course she doesn’t tell you to do the sensible thing. “You need to go to that wedding and you need to show everyone that you’ve moved on and you’re happy!” You’re certain you’re neither of those things but god forbid anyone should actually know that! Especially your perfect ex and his perfect soon-to-be-wife. She tells you to hire someone to pretend to be your boyfriend for the weekend.
Your immediate reaction is absolutely not! But you quickly realise how limited your options actually are. With the help of some Dutch courage, you bite the bullet and do some research into male escorts.
Upon seeing the prices you quickly realise this is way out of your budget, until you come across John Wick. His prices are far more reasonable. (John doesn’t charge very much since he isn’t doing this because he needs to make a living, so he sets his rate pretty low, feeling as though he doesn’t want to rip anyone off.) It almost seems too good to be true but you decide to call the number anyway.
Your breath hitches when you hear his voice for the first time over the phone. It takes you a moment to collect yourself and start talking, nervously enquiring that this is in fact John Wick and he is available to hire as an escort.
You explain that you would like to hire him to attend a destination wedding with you as your plus one. You decide to leave out the major details that it's your ex's wedding and he’ll need to pretend that he is your long-term partner. You've already elected that you will reveal all this on the plane so that if he thinks you’re batshit crazy it’ll be too late for him to back out. Maybe that’s sneaky but… *shrugs*
JOHN AND READER
John meets you for the first time at the airport, introducing himself with a polite kiss on the back of your hand.
Your reaction isn’t quite what he was expecting. You seem distracted.
“Oh… you don’t have to switch that on until we get to the wedding.” Switch that on? That’s a first. John has never been told to switch off the charm by a client before. Perhaps that’s the moment you intrigue him.
It’s obvious you find this whole thing quite awkward, you barely say two words to him while you both wait in the flight lounge. John is used to that. He has had many clients who need coaxing out of their shells and persuaded to indulge, without any shame, in the services he provides.
It’s not until the seatbelts are on and the plane is speeding up on the runway to take off that he hears the full story.
“It’s my ex’s wedding.” you tell him over the whir of the plane engine, your eyes locked on the fasten seatbelts sign. “I sort of told him I have a boyfriend so he gave me a plus one invite, expecting me to bring him with me. But I don’t have a boyfriend so I need you to pretend you're my boyfriend.”
This isn’t new for John. He’s played boyfriend’s, husband’s, even side pieces if the situation calls for it. He doesn’t judge.
“You want to make him jealous.” It’s more of an observation than a question.
“No!” you answer almost immediately, “no, I’m showing him that I’m happy and I’ve moved.”
“Right.”
John is not convinced.
Usually in cases where he is playing the part of a partner, there’s an alias and some backstory.
“Does your “boyfriend” have a name?”
“It’s… John, actually.”
What were the chances? That earns a slight chuckle.
“What? John is a very common name and I was under pressure when I made it up.”
“Maybe it’s kismet.” he can’t help but tease.
Obviously when you arrive at the hotel and check into the room there’s only one bed. Why wouldn’t there be? You’re supposed to be a couple yet somehow this arrangement hadn’t crossed either of your minds.
“I’ll take the floor.” John breaks the awkward silence that had encapsulated you both while you stood in the doorway staring at the bed.
The way he says it tells you that it’s not up for debate so you don’t even bother.
The part you were looking forward to most was the look on Julian’s face when you stepped into the dinner rehearsal with John by your side. It hadn’t gone unnoticed to you that Julian wasn’t entirely convinced about your claims that you had a boyfriend, you weren’t the best liar. He had caught you stumbling up a few times and was more than happy to call you out on it and watch in delight as you stumble over yourself to cover up the mishap. Clearly he had given you the plus one invite to his wedding to catch you out and prove once and for all that you had made the whole thing up.
Seeing that smile wiped off his face, even if only for a moment, as he caught sight of the tall, dark and handsome stranger next to you was quite satisfying to say the least.
“I’m pleased you could make it.” Julian welcomes you both, sizing up John. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet this allusive boyfriend I’ve heard so much about.”
John returns with some underhanded remark about how he hasn’t heard much about him in return, insinuating that you’re so moved on you barely talk about him.
You can almost see the bruise forming on Julian’s ego.
John is totally locked in and committed to the assignment.
It’s safe to say that John takes an instant dislike towards your ex. He finds the overly extravagant destination wedding to be an ostentatious display of his wealth and status. He can’t help but compare how private and intimate his and Helen’s wedding was in comparison - it was something sacred and precious just for them.
Throughout the dinner rehearsal, John is attentive and sweet towards you - really “switching it on” as you put it. But you’re still distracted. He’s out here giving his best performance, trying to really sell how happy and moved on you are but your longing eyes keep straying towards Julian and his soon-to-be-wife.
It’s frustrating but John has never backed down from a challenge.
A long since forgotten feeling begins to stir in John’s gut. A feeling he used to feel whenever Helen’s attention was stolen too much by someone else or she reminisced about her past lovers.
John has been on dates with married clients before who spent the whole time talking about their partner and he never felt even an ounce of jealousy. Why should he care that you're still so hung up on your ex? Why does he want your attention so much?
Later that night, when John steps out of the ensuite freshly showered, he finds you sitting on the edge of the bed with your face buried in your hands. He can’t hear it, but from the jerky movement of your shoulders, he can tell you’re crying.
“Are you okay?”
You jump. Jesus, when did he come back? You didn’t even hear his footsteps. Despite the obvious state you’re in, you try to dismiss his concern and pretend you’re okay. Of course John doesn’t buy it and he persuades you to open up.
He can be very persuasive.
You tell him about how you had imagined all this with you and Julian. The perfect, beautiful wedding. Seeing it become a reality right in front of your eyes with someone else in your place hurts you more than you ever thought it could.
John wants to ask you why you still give a shit about that jerk, but he understands more than most that love can make us do and feel crazy things, even when it doesn’t make rational sense. So instead, he wraps an arm around your shoulders, tucks your head under his chin and lets you cry as much as you need.
“We can leave if you want.” he offers, not wanting you to endure anymore of this weekend if it is causing you distress but you refuse, you want to see this through.
That night you ask John to hold you, just until you fall asleep. Of course, he obliges.
He would happily continue to hold you long after you have fallen asleep, but you didn’t ask for that and he reminds himself of his rules. He carefully slips away from you, tucking the quilt snugly around your shoulders and resists the urge to leave a kiss on your forehead.
The following morning, the day of the wedding ceremony, you can’t even hide how utterly miserable you feel.
His hands quiver as he zips up the back of your dress, his eyes trailing along the dips and curves of your skin as it disappears behind the fabric.
He stops you just before you both step out of the hotel room. He needs to tell you something.
Sitting down on the edge of the bed, he tells you about Helen. He recounts the story of their wedding day and how perfect it was. He tells you how he felt like the luckiest man in the world and it was far beyond anything he believed he deserved.
He tells you that whatever Julian is feeling for his bride is not even close to how he felt for Helen.
You see, John is good at reading people, it’s something he had to learn in his line of work. He tells you that Julian is not in love, at least not with anyone but himself.
You ask him why he’s telling you all this.
He is telling you this because you want to be in his bride's place so bad but the whole thing is a facade. He tells you that you deserve something honest and real. Something like he had with Helen.
This occupies your mind the whole way to the ceremony.
When Julian walks past your seats on his way down the aisle to wait at the altar for his bride, your gaze follows him until John catches your chin and pulls your focus towards him, pressing a firm and deliberate kiss to your lips. Neither of you notice the way Julian glances over his shoulder at you both.
Something clicks inside you and you melt into the kiss, your fingers finding purchase in the long strands of soft hair that frame his face to hold him in place.
The complicated thing with hiring an escort is, you can’t be certain that any of this is real.
John hardly ever takes his hands off of you for the rest of the day. If your fingers aren’t interlocked, his arm is around your waist. If he’s not stroking strands of hair away from your face, he’s caressing your cheek.
He wants your attention. He wants you.
At the reception, when Julian sits himself down in the chair next to you, John hooks his foot into the leg of your chair, pulling it closer to his so he can rest his arm over the back of it while glaring at Julian.

“I’d love to know how you two met.”
“Online.” answers John, in his famously deadpan delivery, without any further explanation. Did he lie?
It clearly wasn’t an answer Julian was expecting.
John seems to be the only one who is unfazed by the awkward silence that follows, taking a sip of his bourbon.
“And what is it you do, exactly?” Julian continues his line of questioning.
“I’m retired.” John almost seems bored.
“From what?”
John pauses, taking a moment to enjoy another sip of his bourbon.

“Management.”
Before Julian can ask anymore questions, John stands and offers you his hand.
Without another word or so much as a glance towards your ex, he leads you to the dance floor.
I headcanon that John loves to slow dance. For years he has been trained to move and use his body in ways to hurt, kill and maim, but slow dancing allows him to utilise his precision, control and coordination in a way that is intimate and tender. The synchronicity of your bodies, the closeness - it’s vulnerable. He first developed a love for slow dancing with Helen, until then dancing reminded him of Ruska Roma. She gave it a whole new meaning for him.
You fit perfectly in his arms. In that moment, with your cheek pressed against his, he doesn’t know how he is ever going to bring himself to let you go. This job was supposed to be easy and cut out the complications of dating by making it transactional but John has found himself in a situation he never once believed possible. He is falling for one of his clients.
Silently, he leads you away from the function, offering no explanation to your puzzled glance.
In the elevator ride to the floor of your shared hotel room, away from prying eyes, he slowly backs you against the wall. The moment is charged with longing, tension and barely concealed feelings.
There is an unmistakable flash of determination in the bottomless depths of his dark gaze that, without a single touch, firmly pins you in place against the wall.
There is no mistaking that this is real.
“John, what about your rul-”
Before you can even finish that sentence, he’s shutting you up with his lips firmly planted against yours.
NSFW
Ever since he lost Helen, John has starved himself of physical touch and intimacy with another person and you have awoken his insatiable appetite.
Similarly, you haven’t been with anyone since your relationship with Julian ended.
There are definitely some nerves there for you both.
It really hits once you stumble into the hotel room with your lips attached and your tugging his dress shirt out from his pants.
John halts your movements, engulfing your hands in his. God, they’re huge!
He takes a beat, his forehead pressed against yours, rough breaths escaping his parted lips, fanning over your neck.
Holding his eyelids shut to hide the conflict behind his eyes, he struggles against himself in his own mind.
All he can think about is how you might react when you see his scars.
“Sit down.” he gently urges you to sit on the edge of the bed.
Standing before you, he slips off his tie, strips off his jacket and slowly unbuttons his black shirt without breaking eye contact.
You gulp when you see his scars, releasing a shuddering breath. A suffocating ache snatches your heart in its cruel icy grip.
In one big stride, he’s standing between your legs, dwarfing your face as he cradles your jaw in his hands, urging you to look up at him.
“Do you want this?” Do you want me?
All it takes is a subtle nod before John is peppering a constellation of kisses across your face. Pressing his knees into the mattress on either side of you, his fingers delve into your hair gripping it just enough to hold you steady as he looms over you.
For John, your pleasure comes first. He will worship you. But he needs to know that there are no distractions.
“You with me, baby?”
He needs to hear you say it.
Drives you to the brink of insanity with his face buried between your thighs, legs hooked over his shoulders and his hands against your stomach holding you down. No matter how much you pull and tug on his tousled mane, he simply growls and teasingly nips at your poor overstimulated flesh.
Fingers you until the pads of his fingertips begin to prune.
Stretching you open as he sinks in at an agonising pace, it feels never-ending. A sheen of sweat clings to the taut muscles of his arms and a string of moan enveloped curses slip from his tongue.
Breathlessly praises you and whispers sweet names in your ear while stroking his hand through your hair when you come on his cock.
Continues to praise you and tell you how good you were for him as he rolls the both of you over until you’re spooning.
He wants to make you feel precious and treasured.
He could stay awake longer if he needed to but he feels so safe with you he allows himself to let his guard down and sink into a deep sleep.
The following morning, a tickle wriggles through your body, stirring you awake as John’s coarse facial hair scrapes against the sensitive junction between your shoulder and your neck.
“I’ve got something for you.” he presses an envelope into your palm, wrapping your fingers around it. It’s full of cash - the fee it cost to hire him. “I can’t keep this now. But I hope I can keep you instead.”
Imagine being on a week-long vacation in a remote cabin with your older boyfriend.
John is the kind of lover you think you could only dream about. But here he is, a man who seems to be built for the female gaze with his puppy soft eyes, low, deep voice and dry humour, along with a burning gaze.
John seems perfect, except for the fact that hehas been very vague about his past. He clamps shut when you try to pry. The relationship is onlya few months old, and you are afraid to seem oushy.
Instead, you try to show him that you are emotionally reliable and trustworthy. You try to subtly reassure him that no matter what, you will not leave, you will never judge him. he is a good man, he has shown nothing but obvious to subtle traits of being a true gentleman.
You might not be the most vocal, but you never forget to remind him that no matter what, you will choose him.
The cabin is warm, the lighting is perfect and the hot chocolate John has made for you. You have a hearty dinner and watch his favourite movie. Who knew John Wick's favourite movie would be 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure'.
You both go to bed, all cosy and romantic under the covers when you feel sleepy.
But when you wake up, John is not beside you. His side of the bed is still warm, so you know that he has not been gone for long.
You are just about to fall asleep again when you hear a muffled thud. Concerned, you contemplate calling for John, but decide against it.
Instead, you put on your warm housecoat and tiptoe out of the bedroom, only to freeze at the scene in front of you before a panicked scream escapes your lips.
John is being tackled by a man in a black suit. But he does not remain on the ground for long. His movements have the kind of ease to them that only comes through years of combat training. He acts fast. Faster than you can blink.
He grabs the string of LED bulbs wrapped around the now fallen Christmas tree and wraps it around the man's throat, using his legs to keep him immobile as he tightens the string.
John looks straight into your eyes, and his gaze has never felt so foreign to you. The man wiggles, at least, as much as he can— he wiggles and scratches John while choked sounds escape him, but John does not let go.
You want to speak, but your throat is parched as you watch the light dim from that unknown man's eyes before his body still, hands falling limp.
That is when John finally lets go of the man, rolling the body over and standing up. Other than the visible cut on the forehead, he appears unharmed.
"John…" You take a shaky step towards him, finding the ability to move again "Oh God…."
"Go back in the room," he instructs, clearly on edge.
"L-let's call 911 after we take care of the cut and—"
"(Y/N)…Just go back into the room and stay there."
Your heart sinks with dread and questions. You have no idea what's going on. Who was this man? Why is there a gun lying on the other side of the room? Why does John appear so nonchalant?
You do not know why, but despite all the questions and panic, you oblige and walk back into the bedroom. John follows you to the door, but does not enter.
You turn to him, confused, but he only shuts the door. Your confusion is overshadowed by pure dread the moment you hear the click of the lock.
Let's talk about John Wick being able to lift you like it's nothing at all even though you're chubby:
(Mentions of sex and violence.)
When you first express your concern over him picking you up he doesn't understand what the hell your talking about.
His brain just doesn't work that way. To him you're just a beautiful woman and the love of his life.
So when he lifts you and moves you out of the way so he can open the fridge and you make a comment like, "be careful John. You'll throw your back out picking me up like that," he just looks at you confused.
The first time it happens he chooses to just shake the thought hoping that it was just a one off thing that wouldn't happen again. Maybe you were just joking, right?
Wrong. One evening as your cleaning up the living room you reach up to place a book on the top shelf by the television. John notices you struggling to fully reach so without even thinking he lifts you up with ease so you can put the book back where it belongs.
"John stop. I'm too heavy for you to keep picking me up like that!" You'd squeal as you wiggled free.
Now he's really perplexed and he can't help but wonder why the hell you would say such a thing.
The final straw for him was when the two of you were playing around in the kitchen while cooking dinner. A beef pot pie.
You had wiped some flour on his nose before running away causing him to chase after you.
When he finally caught up to you, he grabbed you from behind and tossed you on the couch gently and with almost no effort at all.
He'd crawled over to get you, lifting you up again and into his lap.
You struggle against his grasp while yelling, "John cut it out! Let me go, I'm gonna hurt you! I weigh too much!"
He froze and released you immediately but his eyes still stayed on you which prompted you to shrink back into the couch cushions underneath his gaze as he got up.
"Why do you keep saying stuff like that?" He would question in genuine confusion.
"Come on John... look at me. I don't look like most other women. I'm fat. You shouldn't be picking me up all the time..."
He stood in bewilderement for a moment before taking a step closer to you. His eyes unreadable, but you could feel the slight irritation he was holding.
"That's what this is about? You think you're too big for me?" He would sigh a heavy sigh and sit back on the couch, taking your hand.
You'd give him a timid nod but wouldn't say anything yet.
"You're not fat," he would state flatly. "You also forget my line of work. I've killed men bigger than you and me put together with my bare hands."
When he sensed his words weren't making you feel better, he grabbed you from the couch and carried you off to the bedroom much to your protest and tossed you on the bed like a rag doll. He really didn't understand why you thought so negatively of yourself. In his eyes you were absolutely gorgeous to the point of him feeling unworthy of you. A monster like him didn't deserve and angel like you.
"I'm not the most expressive with words and you clearly won't believe me anyway so I guess I'll just have to show you."
One intese love making session later and you were curled up on top of him with his comforter pulled snuggly over you and his strong arms holding you tightly against him.
"Don't ever let me hear you say anything like that again." He'd tell you before kissing the top of your head. "You're the most beautiful woman I've ever seen."

He wakes you up everyday at 8:30 am to get you to eat breakfast and take your medication. He has to force you to take it every morning, he wants you to reap the benefits of the medication for the whole day, even if you don’t want to take them.
He lets you go back to sleep for a couple of hours because he knows how tired you get and how you need more sleep then the average person.
He likes to tease you a little, when he sees you fidgeting subconsciously, he comments on it and watches in mild amusement as you try to stop yourself from fidgeting.
He makes sure that you have hobbies and things to do, he will teach himself how to knit so the two of you can knit together.
He sets up activities for the two of you to do together, he says it’s good for bonding.
You hate these activities, but John loves them. He will set up watercolour paints and paint with you in his backyard. He hangs up all of your painting with his and he dates them.
He takes you fishing on the weekends, he drives the two of you out into the countryside and he will teach you how to fish.
He sets these activities up so that you don’t get bored and as an excuse to spend time with you.

Hello! I don't use the ask feature on this app often, but I enjoyed your writing and was curious if you would accept asks. Feel free to delete or ignore this if it breaks any rules or is in the wrong place. However, I was wondering if you take requests.
If you do, I was also wondering if you could write John Wick with an injured gender neutral or female reader? If someone targeted the reader to get to him and the reader ended up getting heavily injured, how would he react? How would he react if the reader ended up being unconscious for a while? Or how would he deal with the attacker?
Anyway, if you do actually see this, thanks, and have a nice day :b
OK THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HEADCANONS BUT ENDED UP STARTING AS HEAD CANONS AND ENDED AS A FIC 😭😭 I kinda went crazy…

•You were walking towards your car when your phone rang
•A smile appeared on your lips as you saw the contact name and photo of your handsome husband
“Hello John.” You cooed through the speaker.
“Hey beautiful.” John replied.
•The two of you began talking about plans for dinner that night when you noticed two men following you
•Well it seemed like they were following you… You couldn’t really tell
•John noticed that you stopped talking as much, almost seemed like you were distracted and asked him to repeat himself multiple times
•He was about to ask you what was up when you said something that made his heart drop into his stomach
“I need you to remember this. One man’s about six foot the other is about 5 foot eight maybe? The shorter one has black hair, the taller one has blonde. They both look like they are in their thirties…
“What is going on?” The worry in his voice was evident.
“These men are following me.” You replied.
•Then he heard a male voice call out to you
Ma’am, can you help us? I think we’ve taken a wrong turn and we aren’t sure where we are.
I have somewhere to be and I'm late, I apologize but if you go into that store right there someone should be able to help you.
•You turned to continue towards your car when you felt the man grab your shoulder
•Looking down at your shoulder you noticed the tattoo of a Bulldog on his wrist
•Before you met John, you would’ve cowered and immediately stop and help but he had instilled a new kind of courage in you
•Now you knew a little more than basic self defense, you may not have been a master or even have the physical strength on these two men but you definitely had to confidence to at least try and fight back
•John heard you tell them to get their hands off of you and then the beginning sounds of a struggle
•He immediately checked your location to see where you were while running to his car
•Over the phone he heard a man scream out.
I think she took a fucking chunk out of my ear!
“The taller one has a bulldog tattoo on his wrist!”
•As you fought all you could think to do was describe what your attackers looked like and give your husband any details you could just in case
•Then the struggle stopped and John began to call your name, over and over, hoping that you had somehow won the fight
•Anger boiled through his bloodstream, making his whole body go hot and tense up
Don’t tell me she just gave him something to identify you. Fuck.. man I think almost scratched my eye out.
•John noticed the one man sounded nervous
Shut the fuck up! The phone is still on. Put her in the vehicle.
•He heard the phone be picked up and an unfamiliar voice ring through
“Hello, John Wick. I think I have something of yours.” The man’s voice was condescending. “Don’t worry you’ll have a small chance of getting her back.
•John stayed silent, not saying a word to the other man
•Instead his brain was swarming with so much rage and fear
•The only thing somewhat calming him was the ideas of how he would make this man pay, how he would suffer for fucking with you and him
•John listened to the sound of the man getting into a car as he evil monologued about how actions have consequences and blah, blah, blah, your typical speech you hear from a horrible person trying to justify their actions
•He would’ve simply hung up on him if you weren’t incapacitated and at this man’s mercy
•This man was dumb though and for that, your husband was very thankful
•He continued speaking as they drove to wherever they were going, not realizing the Baba Yaga had your location and could see exactly where they were heading
•The evil man seemed bored with the fact he would not speak and decided to say goodbye and hung up
•John followed your location at reckless speeds with a look a determination ingrained on his face
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You woke up with a groan, your head hurt like crazy and your body was sore. A hiss escaped through your teeth as you brought your tied up hands to lightly touch the bleeding wound on your head. Your ankles were tied up as well and while squinting, you finally looked around at your surroundings. The room was bare with only a mattress on the floor which you were on and a boarded up window.
You had no clue how long you were out for but it must’ve not been that long since the sun was still high up in the sky. Trying to move around you must’ve made noise because the door to the room opened and in came your attackers.
“Wow, and here I was thinking you’d be out for hours.” The tall blonde man said while laughing when you noticed he was scrolling through your phone. “You know you really should make your passcode something not as easy to guess. Like seriously? His birthday?”
A laugh almost escaped you as well. What dumbass doesn’t ditch the phone these days? You wondered when John would be here. If you were only fifteen minutes away from home and were out for not even an hour… You did the mental math and assumed he’d be here any minute now. Still feeling confident you couldn’t help but glare at the man.
“John’s not going to be happy.” You threatened.
The shorter man behind him looked almost worried.
“Jack. She’s right.” He said hesitantly. “We don’t even have a plan.”
“Of course he will be, Will. Don’t worry he won’t do shit to us as long as we have her though.” The man named Jack replied. ”Oooh, look at this photo, man. She’s sexy as hell.”
You couldn’t help but feel your face heat up knowing exactly what photos he was talking about. They were private, only for your husband’s and your own eyes. Still how fucking dumb were these guys?
“You don’t even have a plan?” You couldn't help but laugh. “Oh you’re fucked.”
Jack seemed infuriated with your words and walked up to you, smacking you as hard as he could across the face. You let out a yelp of pain and felt the tears start to well up in your eyes from the sting. Instead of hiding your face away from him, you turned and looked him in the eyes. You never believed you could be so bold. Something deep inside you yelled at you to just shut up, comply or die but at the same time after years of taking everyone’s shit, you wanted to show him you weren’t scared.
John would be there soon. You knew it for a fact.
The other man, Will, still looked on edge. Constantly looking around him and even wincing when he saw his partner slap you. He didn’t seem like he wanted anything to do with this. Still he was here and not doing anything good to help you. You knew John would make him pay, though you couldn’t help but feel a little bad. Maybe Jack was forcing him to do this.
He threw your phone down and grabbed your cheeks, making you look at him. Biting his lip before smirking he reached down and pulled a knife out of his pocket. You tensed as he flicked it open and trailed the tip from the top of your forehead, down your cheek and to your throat. It wasn’t with enough force to cut you but hard to the point if he pushed a little more it would.
Jack looked like he was thinking before pulling the knife away from you, flicking it closed and simply turning to walk out of the room, leaving you with Will. You stared at the more anxious man intensely, trying to figure out what the hell his deal was. His eyes flickered to yours and then the floor and then to yours once more.
“What?” He finally snapped.
“You’re not dumb like him. You know nothing good is going to come out of this. Let me go and John will spare your life.” You argued. “What do you guys even want?”
Will looked taken aback before a look of fury appeared on his face.
“Shut up. Jack’s my big brother, don't insult him.” He sneered. “It doesn’t concern you. You’re just collateral.”
You glared at him, all feelings of sympathy leaving your body at his words. He was pathetic. Acting all big and bad the second his brother left the room when in reality he was a spineless coward. As you were about to respond Jack ran into the room. He looked stressed.
“He’s fucking here. How did he find us so fast?” The man yelled at his brother.
You couldn’t help but laugh your ass off.
“My phone, you idiots.”
Jack’s eyes snapped to the phone and you could feel the anger radiating off of him but he went over to it and, in a rage, stomped on it until it cracked. Too late, you thought to yourself. The men then started to talk to each other about what to do. Then they stopped. It was silent… too silent. Even though you knew you weren’t the target of your husband’s anger you couldn’t help but almost feel the uneasiness of the whole situation.
John was definitely inside the house… but where? That was a mystery. He could be right outside the door for all you knew.
“Okay. Okay. You run to the other room in the hall, that way when he comes in here you can attack him from behind.” Jack whispered as fast as he could to his brother.
“Man I-“ Will started but the taller man cut him off.
“Go!”
With an obedient nod he finally went to the door but right as he opened it the sound of three shots rang out. The younger brother didn’t even have time to react as two bullets went into his chest and the third one in his head. Jack yelled for him but then, thinking as quickly as he could, pulled the knife out of his pocket and grabbed you. He hooked his hand under your armpit and yanked you up to your feet, off of the mattress, before holding the knife to your throat.
Your head jerked back and you let out a cry from the sudden movement. This was scary now and tears began to form in your eyes. Jack faced you towards the door and finally you saw John come in, gun raised and ready to shoot. You could see the intensity and fury storming around in his eyes as they quickly looked you over before keeping them trained on your attacker. The blade was held so hard against your throat you felt like he may have already cut you a bit.
“I should just fucking kill her for what you just did.” Jack yelled out.
The tears finally started rolling down your face as it hit you how easy it would be for him to simply kill you. You didn’t want to die and honestly you really didn’t want John to see that. Although deep down you knew he wouldn’t let anything happen to you, anything could happen.
“Hell, I was going to let her go but now?” He was moving a lot, dragging you around to keep you as a human shield. “Now she’s going to…”
Before Jack could finish what he was saying a gunshot rang out. You felt warmth spray against the side of your face as he let go of you and fell backwards. The feeling of his blood quickly became forgotten as you felt almost like someone hit you in the throat. Seconds later the pain came and you couldn’t help but bring your hand to your throat.
You felt a cut and an alarming amount of blood. Your eyes snapped to John’s as you held pressure and he looked panicked. With very fast movements, he put his gun away and then ran up to you. His hand pressed on top of yours to hold the pressure.
“We have to get you to a hospital.” Though he was alarmed you could not tell by the tone of his voice.
You were honestly surprised that you weren’t on the ground choking on your own blood. Luckily Jack didn’t cut too deep or hit anything serious but it was still a deadly situation. It hurt and there was so much blood but you gave him a very slight nod.
“Hold the pressure, just like I am now.” He ordered and you complied as he picked you up.
You were already starting to feel loopy and tired, barely registering that John was sprinting with you out of the house. He placed you into the passenger seat of his car and next thing you knew you were flying towards the hospital. You began to nod off when he brought his hand to your shoulder, telling you not to fall asleep. As hard as you tried, you tried to comprehend whatever he was saying to you to keep you awake but it was hard with how disoriented you were.
You didn’t want to talk, scared it would hurt or be impossible. Everything felt like it was taking forever but going so fast at the same time. Beginning to believe you were dying, you looked at John. You didn’t feel good, your heart felt like it was beating out of your chest and your breathing was faster. Although you were terrified, you tried.
“John, I don't feel good.” Surprisingly you were able to speak clearly.
John gritted his teeth.
“I know, we’re almost there.” He choked out.
Your cheeks were soaked with your tears as you needed him to know something.
“I love you. So much.”
At this he inhaled deeply through his nose, eyes trained on the road.
“I love you too. More than anything. You’re going to be okay.”
You sobbed out and winced at his words. Your eyes saw on the car dash that it was six o’clock in the afternoon.
“I hope I’ll be home in time for dinner.” You said randomly.
John looked at you and it was the first time you saw the true and utter fear in his eyes. That was the last thing you remembered before you passed out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you woke up, the first thing you noticed was that you were in a hospital room and that John was sitting next to you, his hand holding yours as he appeared to be sleeping. You felt exhausted but slightly uncomfortable, you brought your hand up to your mouth and felt something. Your movement woke your husband up and he quickly grabbed your covered hands, taking them away from the tube.
“Hold on, I’ll get someone.” His hand caressed your forehead before he left the room for a moment.
When John returned he was with a nurse and a doctor. The nurse smiled at you and walked over.
“Well, look who's awake!” Her tone was encouraging as she began to look over everything before extubating you.
You were still exhausted and could barely comprehend anything other than the fact you had these mittens on your hands. A soft groan left you and she shifted it around. The nurse gave you a small, apologetic smile before letting you know she was about to pull the tube out. You barely registered what she was saying before you felt the strange feeling. A gag left you and you began to cough, your hands going towards your throat as it hurt.
John grabbed you some water and made his way towards you where he brought his hand to soothingly rub it up and down your back. After you relaxed, you grabbed the water from him and took a small sip. You didn't realize how dry your mouth and throat was until the cold water went down your throat. A slight moan left your mouth at the satisfying feeling of having water.
You wanted to chug the water but knew it probably wouldn’t be good so you slowly sipped and looked at the clock. It read seven pm. Were you really only out for an hour?
“Wow I thought I’d be out for way longer than an hour.” You said.
John looked at you with a confused expression before turning to look at the clock.
“Baby, it’s been two days.” He replied.
A shocked expression appeared on your face and you felt the tears start to well up in your eyes. The nurse and doctor talked to you about your pain level and exactly what happened. You were shocked to find out you did technically die once from blood loss and needed to be revived. They told you that it was a serious wound but thankfully he only just nicked an artery and missed your vocal cords. You’d only have to stay one more night for observation
They eventually left the room and you and John were alone. You brought your hands up to wipe your eyes as he leaned down to place multiple quick kisses all over your forehead, cheeks and lips. Then he sat down and grabbed your hand. You could tell something was bothering him by the way he stared at your neck, eyes glossing over and not breaking contact. You brought your hand up to rub your thumb along his cheek, feeling his facial hair.
“What’s wrong?” You asked him.
It was obvious John had been very distressed over this whole situation. He didn’t reply right away and just continued to stare at your neck. You felt as he squeezed your hand harder.
“I shouldn’t have taken that shot.” He said.
You furrowed your eyebrows at him.
“You saved me from him.”
“I technically got you killed for two minutes.” Your husband shook his head.
You stopped your hand and grabbed the side of his face more firmly.
“I trust that you had a good shot.” You argued.
“That didn’t matter. It wasn’t smart, he had a knife to your throat.” He sounded so angry with himself.
You sighed out and brought your hand up to run it through his hair.
“Can’t we just be happy I'm alive? I mean I’m pretty excited.” The way you playfully said it made the tips of his lips quirk up for a second.
You knew John wanted to smile but you also knew he was battling with some pretty harsh self loathing at the moment. Your hand that was playing with his hair moved and you grabbed the back of his head pulling him towards you. He could tell you wanted a kiss and so he gave you just that.
Your lips met and you hoped if you couldn’t verbally communicate that everything was okay, maybe you could physically. You opened your mouth slightly to allow John’s tongue to slip into it and meet your own. His hand squeezed yours as your tongues rolled lazily around each other. Although it was a slow kiss, it was still deep and passionate. When you felt you couldn’t breath you pulled away.
John immediately let go of your hand and lightly nudged you so you would scoot over. He crawled into bed with you and wrapped his arms tightly around you, holding you against his chest. His lips came down to delicately kiss the side of your neck, away from your wound that would most likely end up scarring. You heard a single sob leave his lips before he pressed his head against your shoulder, making sure not to hit your injury.
“You scared the shit out of me.” He whispered. “I thought you were gone.”
You grabbed his hand that laid upon your stomach and brought his pointer and ring finger towards the inside of your wrist. He pressed them against your skin and let out a long, deep sigh at the steady thump, thump, thump of your heartbeat.
“I’m still here.”
“Yeah.”
You still felt tired and John holding you made you ten times more comfortable. As your eyes started to droop closed and you felt his chest rising and lowering against your back, you felt safe and secure. This wasn’t the end as you knew how your husband was. He was definitely going to be sulking and full of self hatred for a while but you knew everything would work itself out. You let him keep his fingers on your pulse point as you finally drifted off to sleep.
