Chapter 16 of 'The Lost Special: Family Matters' is up!

(An S4 fix-it fic based on fandom meta.)

Summary:    Making sense of The East Wind… A nickname Sherlock knew well from a long time ago, but didn’t think he’d ever hear again. Especially not from her own mouth.

Notes:    So after The Final Problem aired, many fans quickly came to the conclusion that there was no way the events as portrayed in that episode could be taken seriously, and they therefore had to be part of somebody’s horror dream. It was welovethebeekeeper who suggested in a tumblr post that in that case, the only reason to assume that Eurus is indeed Sherlock’s sister is because Eurus herself once implies so to John. And why would we believe her??    I then spent several weeks trying to think of a scenario in which it made sense for Sherlock and Mycroft to have referred to ‘The East Wind’ from early youth (as was stated in His Last Vow), without them having had a secret superpower sister.    I have to say I’m quite proud of the end result, as I think I managed to come up with a story that fits with everything from BBC canon up to TFP. Sherrinford is not really the name of some high security prison. That was just a figment of John’s frantic coma dream. And Eurus is not actually Sherlock’s sister. That’s just something random she said to John before shooting him. Sherlock and John were never actually estranged. That was just their act to cover up what really happened to Mary – or Rosamund Moran, as her real name has turned out to be. Sherlock does have a secret sibling, though, and his name is Sherrinford. After finally eliminating Moran – though in a rather dramatically different way than they had envisioned – and exposing the truth about Eurus, John encourages Sherlock to delve into his past and to find out whether the reasons to keep Sherrinford away from Sherlock were the right ones, and to discover what really happened in 1981. Along the way, Sherlock and John gradually, finally, stop keeping each other at a distance, and eventually become a proper family of their own.

For those of us wishing for a fix-it to make sense of the insanity of S4, this fic is a godsend! I’ve been waiting for the S4 fix-its based on meta to come rolling in and finally, @shirleycarlton has saved us all with this brilliant reimagining. I wait each week to see how she is going to reshape the mess we saw on screen to mean something deeper, on par with the John and Sherlock we know and love so much (and recognizing Mary for the villain she was).

Those of you who have been creating, commenting, and reading meta on blog-theory, John’s coma-emp, and even Sherlock emp will enjoy this! It deserves a LOT more attention than it has so far, go give it some love! (Tagging a few of you who I think would appreciate it).

I just can’t believe that the same writers who gave us the BRILLIANT Moriarty (best. villain. ever.) also gave us Eurus. 

They have a plan. There is no other explanation.

This was literally the first thought I had upon waking this morning. So it’s gonna be one of those days.

Why couldn’t I have picked a stupid show to fall in love with, with a blissfully vapid fanbase and no hidden anything?

Who am I kidding? I love you absolutely brilliant people and all the incredible work you do to put these pieces together. But if this shit doesn’t come to fruition somehow, I’m going to have an aneurysm, so help me.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have about 4 days worth of reading to do (this fandom is nothing if not thorough).
