“Ah, sorry again!” Johnny said, catching up with the sneaky dog. “Steve really likes to come over here, it seems.”
Kanda set the clippers down near the base of the tree and moved towards the fence. He scrubbed at the dog’s scruffy neck, a smile gracing his features more easily than before. “I don’t mind.”
Johnny looked around the garden and grinned. “It looks like some of the flowers are already coming up!”
“Yeah…”
“It’ll look amazing when they’re all in bloom! I can’t wait!”
Kanda’s gaze shifted to Johnny, and he was thankful his attention was on the garden, and not Kanda. He studied his face, or what he could see that wasn’t hidden behind those thick glasses. He seemed genuinely excited for the flowers, more than Kanda thought was possible for such a little thing—and his smile was so wide, bright like the sun.
Almost like Alma’s smile had been.

I fucking can't believe it!!! This so fimucking cute!!! Look at my two boys! Johnny Gill and Kanda Yuu have become the cutest duo I've ever seen. (Regardless if you ship them or not) It's also so nice how they all still consider Johnny as part of the order even making "where" sign for them.

You know what I want to see more of? Romance fics from Kanda's point of view that actually explore the fact that Kanda is the biggest piner ever. 9 years waiting on a girl he could barely even remember, but for some reason a lot of fics seem to only show him being angry at himself for having feelings or just being totally oblivious. Which is nonsense, cus he is literally one of the only characters in dgm that has experienced romantic love.
He knows how it feels and he certainly didn’t ignore it then and I can’t imagine him ignoring it if he fell for someone else.
Like I like all the pieshippy Link pines after Allen but come on. He is hardly the biggest sap of the series. I want to see Kanda realising he’s falling for Johnny really early on and just…. not doing anything obvious about it but being super hyper aware of it. And Johnny is the cute oblivious numpty who has no idea why Kanda has been going out of his way to spend more time with him, but oh well, that’s what friends are for right?
Friends totally bring each other lunch whenever one of them is working too hard… and remembers to order all their favourites… and desperately tries and fails to learn how to play chess even semi decently. And wow, Kanda has gotten really good at gardening now hasn’t he? All these flowers look fantastic!
Meanwhile Johnny is just sitting back happily noting that Kanda seems to be getting along better with everyone. Basically Kanda’s and Johnny’s characters would fit well in a silly rom com and no one can convince me otherwise.
Well, since you’re probably sleep rn, I guess I’ll continue on with the silly rom com starring Kanda and Johnny (which seems to be set in an alternate timeline where Alma dies but otherwise everyone makes it back to the order safely apparently… or maybe it’s set further along in canon where they all meet up and everything is happy and fine again lol)
Anyway, Allen is pestering Kanda even more so only to eventually be told by Kanda that an actual relationship is probably not going to work considering they are in a way, fighting for a most likely homophobic church and he’s really just fine with pining after Johnny anyway and making him happy in anyway he can. Which surprisingly enough, absolutely does not fly with Allen.
If he was mad and meddlesome enough before, now it’s a pain in the arse trying to avoid all the “accidental” conversations that Allen keeps trying to start between them. E.g. “Hey, let’s all go into town together, whoops what’s that? We accidentally lost Kanda and Johnny? Well unfortunately I guess it’s time to head back home, oh no we will have to go back without them” or “hey Johnny have you noticed that Kanda stares at you like 100% of the time now??” (Which he doesn’t but Allen is mad)
Unfortunately for him, his persistence in meddling with Kanda’s love life means that he is completely overlooking the fact that Link has been trying to get Allen to notice him for weeks now. And basically Allen is unknowingly disrupting all of Links attempts to ask him out.
Lavi and Lena have been secretly dating for a while and are just in awe of the mess that is their friends love lives. Their only real concern is that neither of them wants to be hiding their relationship anymore but neither feels comfortable telling Bookman or Komui.
Also any time Johnny even vaguely starts picking up on Kanda’s feelings (or when Allen blatantly tells him) he brushes it off cus “He has always loved Alma hasn’t he?” (Allen has slammed his head on more desks in the last few months than any other point in his life and Link is c o n c e r n e d)
(Also Marie is like the only one who hasn’t interfered yet, but even he is getting impatient. But at least Miranda always listens to him complaining about all of them)
Which suits Komui fine. If everyone is too involved in their love lives, then he can slack off as much as he likes. Bookman on the other hand is bored out of his brains and just wants to go back to recording something other than, “all the young exorcists seem to have forgotten about the war because apparently their love lives are more important” (which of course he is saying in a completely impartial way, because he’s a Bookman and he certainly not at all annoyed by this nonsense)
Leverrier knows nothing except no-one is getting any fucking work done any more and he is pissed

Johnny is completely and totally oblivious for the longest time because he’s so used to having friends that are affectionate and actually have a presence in his life that when Kanda starts showing up more and more frequently he just automatically absorbs him into his existing friend group without a second thought.
But even after Allen’s meddling and pushing Johnny’s still just in absolute denial and by this point everyone else is just facepalming because this doof can’t put two and two together that at the very least Johnny is the only one that Kanda’s actually shown open concern for and is actually patient with.
And when Tiedoll gets wind that Kanda likes Johnny, he goes straight into sappy dad mode which of course pisses Kanda off to no end and Johnny gets confused as to why the General is suddenly invested in getting to know him specifically and can’t understand why he keeps mentioning “his future son-in-law” because isn’t Marie with Miranda?? Poor peanut doesn’t understand but that doesn’t stop Tiedoll from gushing over him like a waterfall of affection.
But on a slightly different tangent can you imagine how much nonsense goes on within the Order for no other reason than the fact that half of the exorcists are teenagers and not even war can override hormones and the faults of their age ranges??
Basically the Order and everyone in it is a Giant Mess and I love it.

Kanda wakes up first since he get’s up to meditate, but he’s not always the first one up depending on whether or not Johnny ever actually went to bed (though he’s gotten better about actually sleeping)
Who is grumpiest in the morning?
Johnny, surprisingly. Kanda doesn’t talk to him until he’s gotten at least 1 cup of coffee in him.
Who cooks breakfast?
Neither one of them is particularly great at cooking tbh, but Kanda’ll put on coffee for Johnny in the morning and once he’s awake Johnny’ll usually make toast or something simple, but they’re both really bad about eating breakfast.
Who serves the other breakfast in bed?
If coffee counts as breakfast, Kanda.
Who suggests they skip work and stay home?
Kanda is convinced that Johnny’s trying to work himself to death, but they both get antsy if they have nothing to do so instead of taking a day off, they’ll take a half day.
Who falls asleep on top of the other?
Usually Johnny, but Kanda almost always falls asleep with an arm thrown over Johnny.
Who always has to be touching the other?
Johnny, especially if they’re out and about because he’s anxious about getting separated or lost.
Who stays up until 2 reading?
Johnny, though Kanda usually winds up staying up too to make sure that Johnny actually goes to sleep.

Johnny, even though he hasn’t traveled very much.

They aren’t really competitive with each other, but in general Kanda is. Johnny’s only competitive when it comes to beating Link at chess.
