Hey jojo!!!! Tysm for the ask!!!

Always always present tense. When you write in present tense, everything feels fresh, raw, new, because that’s when you’re writing it. You’re writing WHEN the characters have that realization, or when they get what they want, so the emotions feel sharper than if it’s a retelling in past tense. Of course, past tense is great, but by then it’s a watered down, nerfed version, and the feelings aren’t as true as they are when it’s written or told in present tense. 

Umm, give my writing a compliment? I’m good at describing things (sometimes I feel like that’s the only thing I’m good at, writing-wise) and I’m good at characterization. I can make the characters come to life. (Everything else is shitty though, and sometimes the writing feels flat. But most of the time it’s decent.)

"Evan Buckley," Maddie's eyes gleam with a knowing look. She grins. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you /like/ him!"

Buck sputters and sets his coffee cup down before he looks up at his sister. "Like him? What are you, in middle school?" He shoots back, but he does not actively deny it, and Maddie notices because, of course, she does. The grin hasn't left her face. "That's not a no." She teases, and Buck is thanking whatever god there is that the alarm blares through the firehouse, and he has an excuse to leave. It's not a total victory, though, because as Buck rushes off, he still catches Maddie's "We're not done talking about this, Evan!" as he's stepping into the truck. Send me the first line for a fic, and I'll write the next five. ❤️
