Jonathan Benbeniste's Senior Recital
Jonathan Benbeniste, best known for his work with Pooch, will also be performing a senior recital this Thursday, March 27th in Zankel's Filene Hall. According to the fb event page, selections include "some solo songs, some pooch tunes, and a few compositions featuring some very talented musical friends." The few times I have seen Jon perform it's kicked some ass, so don't miss this one either.
New Music: Babes
Skidmore Unofficial posted a link to a track by a Skidmore band called Babes (Zoë Brecher '12 of The Artifacts and Jon Benbeniste '14). The middle-age women in swimwear on their Bandcamp page may appear a tad strange, but Babes perfectly capture the reverb soaked indie-pop/surf-rock bliss that the kids these days worship. Jon's voice definitely carries the same timbre as Christopher Owens of Girls. And once the chorus kicks in, I get a ginormous Best Coast meets Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros vibe.
Really hoping these guys release more tracks soon.
