Dracula transformed Mina primarily out of revenge in the book. And since the transforming vampire is often sexual, the scene can completely be seen as rape.

But I understand, reading the passage concerned of Dracula and Mina, that Coppola might have wanted to change the source and make it a romance.

Considering the parts of the dialogue that rely on Dracula wanting Mina as his companion and telling her that one day she will have her revenge and basically having everything she could ever want.

In any case, she is the only woman Dracula transforms in order to make her a companion from what we know.

The 3 sisters are never described as such for Dracula. Nor Lucy whom he also transforms.

He changes Mina in order to actually make her his companion which is a rather strange revenge plan ?

Changing her into a vampire is just enough right ?

Or maybe he specifically wants to make her his companion to get revenge on Jonathan ? Like ; You came to bother me, so I'll steal your wife ?! 😂😅

Or maybe we're in the context of the gay subtext ?

You know ; when the male character who wants another (all that still in the subtext of course) focuses his attention on the woman partner of the man he really wants ?

I say this for the queer reading of the book about Dracula's relationship with Jonathan.
