Fucking Gilberts.
Imma call out these three specifically.
This whole family knew SO FUCKING MUCH about all the vampire issues in this town and know more than the other families. Anf just kept it to themselves.
They're so proud of it all istg. The devices they 'created' (or the witches help them make) were kept to themselves properly.
I mean imagine thinking you created a ring that would help you survive vampire attacks. Wouldn't you make sure at Least one per family line has one in the family?
The Salvatores having vampires in their line? Well known in the Gilbert line. I'm in the mindset that many who got used to Stefan visiting marked him as 'safe' over time. And maybe at a section of time Damon as well.
If these people shared properly between the council Damon couldn't have manipulated the council. Others would have figured out other things, Lockwoods not being human(good luck to the lockwoods explaining that one).
Just over all, the more and more that you find out the Gilberts knew. Especially through John in season one, just in his first proper episode is insane. He's just using the knowledge he SHOULD have shared to show off.
THEY ALSO KNOW VAMPIRES CAN WALK IN THE SUN!!! THATS IMPORTANT INFO TO SHARE GILBERT!
Jonathan seemed like he shared the most, but at the same time everything’s a mess with things he DID still do.
Samantha had her own issues. I do want to know her story, because how many times and How/Why did she die to get to the point that she did with the ring considering how much we see Alaric and Jeremy die and it took Alaric a Lot and he's incredibly close to vampire issues. So unless her and Sage had an Issue at that time we don't see any other vampires in the town.
I just... If Gilberts had been more open from the start maybe less issues would have happened.
[I also would have loved to see if the families turned on the Lockwoods and/or if would make them separate Witches and Werewolves from Vampires allowing the Bennetts(Emily) to live.]
To be fair. Elena and Jeremy have their own issues, but thats because they're keeping secrets and have vampire likings at the start. (Jeremy is two sided tbh.)
