TIE CLIPS & COCKTAILS at MISTER H @ THE MONDRIAN SOHO
If you've been following Subscene Style for a bit, you've realized I tend to split up event posts between party-goer style shots and my personal style shots. Since the last post was party-attendee style shots, take a wild guess what this post is on...

Getting back into the swing of more frequent style shots, in and around the NYC subway system. Think the MTA will hook it up with some free Metrocards for all this publicity? Yeah, I don't think so either. The 59th Street & Columbus Circle station will forever standout in my mind's eye, because my first apartment was near there. It was right atop the Trump Tower, Penthouse C. But then I decided to move in with the common folk, and headed back to Long Island City. That's how us billionaires roll. Sitting pretty on the helipad on your way to the penthouse one day, and then taking the subway into Long Island City the next. Oh, by the way, I like to make shit up sometimes. Deal with it.
This look was inspired by my current gig working as an in-house social media consultant for an event marketing company. Office culture is fairly casual, but I simply do not feel productive in a basic button down and denim. I've been rocking crew neck sweaters a lot this winter, so I threw an old Diesel cardigan over that, and then my trusty J.Crew Tweed blazer over that, all under my vintage peacoat. Layers. They do a body good. Purple socks tied it all together. Socks that stand out are always in my wardrobe.
Cheers!

For those of you who do not know, this blog was originally created to highlight street style in and around the NYC subways. Haven't been doing a terrific job of that, but this is the first of the subway style shots, with many more to come. Not only will personal style shots frequently take place in and around subway stations, but street style will also. Key word being frequently, not consistently. Personal style shots will be taken by frequent contributor and style blogger, Scott Pegram of Esquiring Minds. Check him out there as well.
Cheers!

I've never been one to be pigeon-holed into any specific category, specifically when it comes to style. My style ranges from classic americana, to downtown rock n roll, to gentleman about town. Oh, and I make up labels and names for various styles, as you can tell. But three constants are leather goods, accessories (it's all about details), and bespoke tailoring. Companies that do this well are consistently on my radar. Perfect example is Alfred Dunhill, a classic British luxury goods brand specializing in the aforementioned constants. I've also got a soft spot for British companies and, well anything British. Must be those countless years growing up listenign to the likes of The Clash, The Damned, and all the other bloody terif British punk bands.
I was asked to pick out my top three, got to have, pieces from their current collection. And if you gentleman would like to send said pieces to me, I wouldn't be opposed. Not at all.
I've been browsing around for a new brown belt. Something not too casual and not to formal. I'm not a big fan of chunky belts or those thin leather belts that are worn with trousers. This Windsor belt is a great compromise of high and lo. Slight touches like the brushed gunmetal finish make it look stylish without overdoing it. I'll take it. Size 34, thanks.

A classic blue sports coat is a staple in menswear. From interviews to night out on the town, make it double-breasted...bam. This Cambdeboo Double Breasted Blazer is made from Mohair with the vintage Dunhill logo. Classic tailoring. Dapper. Size 40L, thanks.

I've never been a fan of sterling silver watches. It's too commonplace. Every frat boy and swag kid has a sterling silver watch sliding up and down his wrist while he tips back Coors Light. Leather bands look refined and classic. This Dunhill timepiece has a sterling silver face with a sleek black leather band. Classic style.

Also, check out the leather wallets, made in the company's leather workshop in London.
There's a reason I have a creative team of contributors on Subscene Style, and I'm man enough to admit it. I'm not an expert in everything. I know, surprising isn't it? There are others more equipped, specifically when it comes to photography. But I dig photography, and I try. So, here/'s my first attempt at street style photography. NYFW.
Like the VIP bloggers we claim and pretend to be, we were exclusively invited to attend the Unruly Heir fashion presentation at Park last evening. Let me clarify, exclusive invite means a last minute twitter invite. Same difference, right? Anyhow, blogger extraordinaire/ that cute girl from instagram that people have been asking about, Talia, and I, hit up the gig on the premise of beautiful people, good clothes, and food and drink.
The presentation consisted of about 8 or so models lined up looking like prep school outcasts on a ski trip. Unruly Heir, according to stylist Kan, is an outlaw prep line. We were thinking Ambercrombe & Fitch on cocaine, so sort of similar aesthetics, right? The clothes had interesting touches on modern prep. Specifically the cotton/linen/velvet tuxedo with luxury plaid {scene in the above pic}. Guys, if you read this. Hook it up. 40L. The models were fucking around and doing runway walk offs, getting loaded, and dancing more than modeling the clothes. It definitely gave that outlaw prep vibe, but it looked more like a party than fashion presentation. If that was the plan. Nailed it! If not...Rtalin perhaps?
Any guy that says he doesn't put thought into his look when heading to NYFW, whether it be to a show, party, or to shoot street style, is a liar. And not a very convincing one. Putting together a proper look is a challenge. It's a true art form, if done well, that is. So getting my look together for checking out NYFW took some time. Considering the temperature and the fact that I'd be outside and on my feet, comes into play. Standing out so you get snapped and exchange cards with fellow bloggers also comes into play. I'm looking around my closet, browsing my jackets, and it hits me. Let's have a Punk Rock Rebirth.
It must have been at least 5 years since I had worn my old leather biker jacket filled with the many studs and copious amounts of band logos, all done by hand. Yeah, it didn't fit quite as well as I would have hoped, but I had my mind set.
It was a good choice that day. It was a conversation starter and garned a decent amount of attention. And let's be honest, I think I looked damn good.
