Track #3-6: Chasing the Draygon
NOTE: Album listing link due to no video being available.
Artist: Jonathan Peros
Original: Maridia Drifting Sand Underwater Area by Minako Hamano
Length: 5:32
Jonathan Peros' cover of Super Metroid's Lower Maridia theme is a downbeat dark synth piece with lots of electronic noise reminiscent of certain tracks from the Prime subseries. It is a strong contrast to Sam Dillard's eerie orchestral medley of the song with the Upper Maridia theme from the 101% Run album. The name suggests that Samus is hunting down the aquatic Space Pirate leader Draygon, though the 'the' in the title is dehumanizing and animalistic.
This is a very strong cover of Maridia's first theme. The muffled instruments make it sound like the song is being played through the water, and the electronic noise is a nice spooky complement that does not dominate the song (though I wouldn't mind if it did). Where the first album's cover was tense, this one is more sad. All in all, an excellent addition to the album, and the first of a short run of excellent water level themes.
