It's been a very exciting week for our Daphne Olive and the Black Sails team 💕
Pitch for a HBO adaptation of “Uncharted” (you know, in case the movie franchise gets shelved and the execs want another Naughty Dog franchise after the success of “The Last of Us”):
1) Showrunner: Jonathan E. Steinberg (co-creator of Black Sails)
2) Brett Dalton as Nathan Drake
3) Teresa Palmer as Elena Fisher
4) Stephen Lang as Victor Sullivan (I know he did the live-action short, but he’s legitimately who I feel would be best in the role)
5) Pedro Pascal as Atoq Navarro
6) Mark Strong as Gabriel Roman
7) Bill Hader as Sam Drake (cameo appearance in season 1 in order to set the show up for the 4th game/season)
8) 9 episodes, same as “The Last of Us”
"[Silver and Flint] can't hate each other from the beginning or what am I here for ... [they have to] really give a shit about each other. They should be the most important person -- each to the other -- that you can imagine. And then it's like, there's still story to be broken, but the vectors are all very clear at that point. These are two guys who, when their falling out happens, it's only tragic if there's something broken. If there was never anything there then there's no tragedy. And then managing their relationship as it relates to Flint's sexuality is, I think intentionally complicated... in a way where we were constantly aware that the cop-outs would be easy and sort of trying to avoid the cop-outs, but also trying to embrace how complicated it would be for Flint to be in that relationship. Sort of... the first true partner for whom -- I don't want to say that sexuality was complicated, because it was complicated across the board -- but it just came with a different kind of baggage. Political baggage, day-to-day reality baggage... [we] just wanted to own that and let a lot of things live in subtext. I think the moment you make them text, that's the cop-out. Like, the cop-out is making it seem like it would be easy for him to address this.
Jonathan Steinberg [x]
I know the Percy Jackson TV show has a lot they have to fit into one season, but Jonathan Steinberg is writing for the show, that means Black Sails and Percy Jackson in a way exist in the same universe. It would only take one second for Percy to see a Walrus at the beach or while swimming underwater and to just give it a little salute and say “Captain Flint, good day” and then just continue on his way.
[Steinberg is] an incredibly talented creator and a force of nature as a showrunner. He’s one of the best multi-takers we’ve ever worked with. Together with his producing partner Dan Shotz, we have every belief that he’ll be a major supplier to the Disney platforms and a big presence as a showrunner on our shows.
Fox 21 President Bert Salke on Steinberg.
"They should be the most important person – each to the other – that you can imagine"
In light of recent events, I keep seeing people say that Jonathan Steinberg is straight, but what’s the evidence on this? Has he actually come out and identified as straight somewhere, or is he simply..... in a relationship with a woman?
Because the latter does not necessarily make him straight.
