My first attempt at drawing Leonie Barrow, from Johannes Cabal the Necromancer.
I love this character, and I spent quite a bit of time thinking about how I want her to look, I probably have done it justice yet (first sketch!), but lemme talk about her anyway.
So my head canon for Leonie is this. She’s attractive, but she’s not stop in your tracks stunning. She has the sort of beauty that come alive when you talk to her and engage her interest. Her eyes light up and sparkle, and her wit shines through. Theres a tangible energy in her that keeps her constantly animated. She probably doesnt photograph well- she’ll look awkward and flat. Yet people are drawn to her when she speaks, because, despite her book learning and cleverness, she’s very charming and passionate.
She’s reasonbly tall for a women, and has a rather soft figure. She’ll excercise with long walks in the hills, but finish them in a tea room with a large slab of cake. Her cheeks are freckled and ruddy from fresh air rather than rouge. Her hair is wild, and she doesn’t care to tame it all too much, although the rest of her appearance is always neat and tidy.
Ultimately, and I believe this is what attracts Cabal more than anything, is that she is full of life; healthy, hearty and happy. Everything he is not. She bears some little resemblance to ‘Her’, but perhaps looks and acts more alive than She ever did. And the sheer amount of life and vitality exuding from her galls him.
