Woke up to the rain crashing into my window With a mind foggier than last night’s drinking would have me presume. Small voice says, Yeo, don’t forget the joint you hit at 4.30am this morning.

Pulled the blankets back over myself and convinced my consciousness to re-enter the safety of the void For at least 30 more minutes. Closed my eyes and smiled at the downpour outside. I could hear it smiling back.

The sun was still nowhere in sight when I rose into the kitchen. Jono McCleery on the speakers, making James Blake sound like an amateurish musical accident.

Dusted a blue grenadier with cracked pepper and cornflour before throwing it on a pan. Served it on a bed of onion, capsicum and sesame seeds dressed sparingly with vinegar. Fluffy rice on the side.

Eaten with sniffling fervour reserved for victims of dehydration, which I clearly was.

Dishes were loud, because the rain had ceased and Jono was keeping it down, so he doesn’t wake my only housemate.

Hangover was almost sated. The final piece of the puzzle. Back to bed for a few more hours; by my side a recycled passata jar full of water and a hydralyte tablet.

Nuzzle pillow.
