Episode 147: Pride goes before a fall
The conversation between Jordan and Simone was interrupted a little later by the opening and closing of the office door. Orlando also unexpectedly stopped by. He knew from his wife that Robin had a therapy appointment today. "Oh, Mr. Trahan, it's good to see you. We've already finished therapy; he just wanted to get dressed." / "That's a shame; I guess I'm a bit late." / "Yes, but I can tell you that he's making really great progress."
"Oh, really? I'm glad to hear that. Has he… tried walking yet? My wife told me he's quite far along, I must apologize, I've been very busy with work, unfortunately, so today's day off came at just the right time..“/. „he's trying very hard, he's already taken his first steps. But he still needs a lot of help." Orlando's excited breath was clearly audible. "That sounds great. Then I'll take him home today, if that's alright?" / "Oh, sure, just go through the back."
Orlando wasn't here for the first time. But it was the first time he'd gone toward the therapy room. He usually waited at the front until his son was ready. When he arrived at the large windows, he realized he was in the right place. And what he saw next almost took his breath away. "Robin!" He was almost mesmerized by the sight. His son was trying to walk on his own. It was all rather wobbly, and Orlando could see that he was having trouble keeping his balance.
And then it happened. Halfway there, he misstepped and fell forward. He tried to catch himself with his hands on the walker, but he couldn't, and he landed on the floor… Orlando sensed early on that this wasn't going to end well and rushed into the room as he was falling… "Robin, my God…" He quickly came to his aid and helped his son back to a comfortable position.
Jordan also quickly ran to the therapy room after hearing Orlando shout loudly. Then he saw Orlando holding his son in his arms on the floor. "Are you hurt?" / "No, just my hand…" Orlando looked at it. There was a scratch, not deep, and it wasn't bleeding. "Oh man, you scared me…" / "But… I managed three steps by myself, did you see that?" said Robin, still slightly dazed from the fall.
Still somewhat shocked, Orlando hugged his son tightly. "Yes, yes, I saw, and I'm so proud of you, oh my boy."/ "Dad… I'm fine okay?" Robin said, hearing his father sob a little, which was unusual for him—because his father practically never cried. "It's not… I've been waiting for the day since you wake up again… I was always worried about you, you know that? And now you've come so far again, you… You can do anything." His father's words moved him; he had rarely seen him so emotional. "Please don't tell Mom anything about this, okay? I wanted to surprise her when things are back to normal." / "I'll keep quiet, I promise."
Once the shock had passed, Jordan helped Robin back into the wheelchair. "Are you okay? Does anything hurt?" / "No, everything's okay…"/ "Hmm, that was reckless and not okay, you know that, right? You can't just start doing this without help yet." … "Yeah, I'm sorry, I just wanted to at least give it a try." "Uh-huh, oh dear, I know that feeling." Robin’s gaze drifted for a moment in the direction from which the gentle female voice was coming.
Jordan also glanced briefly at Simone and shook his head. “Hey, this isn’t a good time.” She smiled at him and shrugged. “Well, maybe it is. I’m seeing myself in him. You know how hard it was for me back then; I also wanted everything to be okay again as quickly as possible.” Jordan looked at her for a moment and actually remembered the same ambition that had gripped her back then. Then he looked at the boy. "Hm… Robin, this is Simone. She was a patient of mine a few years ago. She was also in the same situation as you are now for a while."
Simone came closer to get a better look at Robin. "Hi, I'm sorry for barging in like this, but I… I can relate to your situation all too well." Robin looked her up and down for a moment, hardly able to believe it. "Okay… and how long did it take until… everything was okay again?" / "Over a year…"/ "Really, that long?"/ "Mhm. Well… if you'd like, I can tell you a little about myself and give you some tips." He looked at Jordan, who raised his eyebrows with a slight smile and nodded his head slightly in her direction. "Well, I would definitely take her help.".
Robin looked at her again and slowly began a conversation with her. "Are you from around here?" / "No, I… I just arrived today. I took a job at the restaurant. Well, for now I'm just a kitchen maid," she giggled. "Okay… I'm staying with my boyfriend at the moment because space is limited at my parents' house." / "Hmm, yeah, you have to create a good environment when you're in a wheelchair. So… If you'd like, we can just meet up sometime and talk…" Robin blinked and looked down at his legs for a moment, then his gaze drifted to his father and back to Jordan. Finally, he looked back at Simone and nodded. "Okay." He thought to himself at that moment that it might not be a bad idea to talk to someone who had gone through (almost) the same thing as him.
