mitleri insanın ruhani potansiyeline giden ipuçları olarak gören mitolojist joseph campbell, schopenhauer, kierkegaard, freud gibi düsünürlerden ve klee, picasso, dali gibi sanatçılardan etkilenmiştir. özellikle jung’un arketiplerinden etkilenerek monomit kuramını geliştirmiştir. monomit / monomitik döngü ya da kahramanın sonsuz yolculuğu: ayrılma, erginlenme ve dönüş aşamalarının halk anlatılarında benzer bir akışla görülmesini ifade eder.

kendisini niçin bir “genelci” olarak tanımladığını ‘’mitsel imge’’ ile daya iyi kavrıyoruz. arkaik toplumların bugüne ne anlattığını ( ‘’uzak asya’dan hindistan’a, çin’den japonya’ya, eski doğu’dan eski batı’ya, avrupa’dan afrika’ya, hıristiyanlıktan yahudiliğe ve islam’a, filipinler, endonezya, mikronezya gibi ada uygarlıklarından inka, aztek, maya gibi amerika uygarlıklarına kadar..’’) görmek için oldukça güzel bir kaynak. 

kitapta oldukça yavan yaklaşımlara da denk geldim. örneğin osiris’in mahkemesi sahnesi bu kadar sığ anlatılabilinirdi sanırım, sonra dinler ile ilgili öyle iddialı yaklaşımları var ki sadece bu kitapla öğrendiklerinizle kalırsanız bu ‘‘bütünleşik dünya kataloğu’’nda kaybolabilirsiniz.
