Just watched the first episode of Joshikousei no mudadzukai and I’m honestly impressed. First of all the OP fucking rules.

Next, it’s often pretty hard to get a gag driven manga like Joshimuda to translate well to animation. Often enough the jokes just fall flat, not least of all because the voice actors often are, well, too good.

SoL-Comedy like Joshimuda kind of depends on us reading the characters as pretty stupid (and, believe me, they are all tremendously stupid in this one). And, damn, does Akasaki Chinatsu-san, who’s voicing loudest of the main three Nozomi, make it work. (Tomatsu Haruko-san, still in my mind as Kuzu no Honkai’s Ecchan, isn’t too bad either.) They’re also singing the above mentioned jammin’ OP song.

Animation is mostly solid, certainly not outstanding in any way, but also not severely lacking for the most part. The again it doesn’t need to be especially great, considering most of the fun comes from character interactions, some wordplay and straight up silliness in conversation.

So, if you’re in general enjoying gag anime, give this one a try. It’s neither as plot-driven (for a loose definition of plot) nor as cgdct as last season’s Hitoribocchi, not quite as stupid as “recent” Asobi Asobase.

I’d put it around the same level as last summer’s Chio-chan no tsuugakurou, with much the same target audience as well as topic. So if you liked that one, you’ll probably like this one.
