I haven't really talked about Liminal Chess or, rather, my plans for it, in a minute. So, here's an update:
I developed a set of mechanics and turned the concept into a solo journaling and extraction ttrpg. The system uses playing cards to generate events (which are referred to as Capture Opportunities in-game), and it uses dice to track player stats and settle plays.
The game will be zine-form in the end, and quite short (between 12 and 16 pages). Every page and Capture Opportunity will be fully illustrated. Below, I've attached the first completed prompt page, though the rest are written and formatted already. They just need art, so that's what I've been working on.
I'm focusing intently on aesthetics and atmosphere with this game. The desolation of liminal space. The tricky nature of chess pieces. The innate desire to document and share the weird and uncanny. The fervent impulse to escape and thwart the unknown. All this I examine in Liminal Chess.
Let me know what you think of my designs so far~
