What was/is your father like?
Jovakor: “A good man from what I remember, but he was always so busy and tired. I suppose it was hard work to be one of the best in his field, and with our people frequently on the move, efficiency was key. Can’t drag your hooves on things like repairs or building sturdy yet temporary shelter.”
Kasmia: “Kind, friendly, and intelligent. He was also strong, but more in an emotional sense. He was a priest in addition to being a chief botanist among our people, but after we settled on Draenor he focused more on the latter, specifically agriculture. Like the majority of our people, he was so sure Draenor would be our final refuge, and he wanted to make the most of it.”
Freiha: “He worked hard, but never let it overshadow his family. We were all very important to him. He and my mother had been together since just after the exodus from Argus, and he remained wholly devoted to her. I’ve never met two people so deeply in love after such a long time together.”
Rurik: “I never felt like I was adopted with how welcoming and warm my father was. I was his first son, so I think he was a little excited to have me after three daughters. But I know he loved all his children very much! Even after Ianah moved to Shattrath, he made it a point to visit her and bring gifts to her and Khalir.”
Jovakor, what is the one memory that you refuse to let go about Jovan?
“He often worked so late that he was too tired to put me to bed, so he’d just recline in a chair and let me curl up on his chest, and that’s how we’d both sleep. Of course, by the time I was around four years old, I was too big to do that. That was so long ago that I’m surprised I even remember — but then again, you did say the one memory I refuse to let go!”
What if Jovaan was alive today, what would he think of Reithie and in the future, his granddaughter Jalura? On the flip side, what if Nesrela was still alive? Would that cause Jovakor to be a lot more protective over Reithie and Jalura? Or would Nesrela even give them a second thought?
He’d adore them! He’d see Reithie as the perfect match for his son and happily accept her as his daughter-in-law, making sure they have everything they need so they can just enjoy their lives without hassle. His grandchild(ren) would be a tremendous source of joy for him, and he would definitely have a hand in raising her/them.
Nesrela wouldn’t care. If she’d survived in the main timeline, I figure things would have turned out very similar to how they did for her in alt-Draenor. Time has purged her mind of any thought of them, and she’s focused solely on her own life. Again, still not a good person, but her “second chance” doesn’t include redemption and forgiveness — only more opportunity to succeed on her own terms.
What if Jovakor met his mother in this AU Draenor? Is she alive in this timeline?
Nesrela is indeed alive in AU Draenor's timeline. Her assassination attempt on Jovaan failed, and all of her contacts were found and jailed. She managed to escape when the Genedar crashed on Draenor and went into hiding. After a change to her appearance, she started a new life as a jeweler in Shattrath.
While she's still greedy, manipulative, and all-around not a particularly good individual, even she thinks the Sargerei are fel-sucking traitors who need to be eradicated. They ruined her business and now she's destitute!
And she still doesn't give a shit about her son, let alone his father. If she ever came into contact with them, they'd be treated like strangers. Neither of them would recognize her, anyway.
♂ Despite the fact that you didn't have that long to spend with your son, are you proud of all the things that Jovakor has accomplished? Were there any things you wished you could have been there to help him with, or avoid?
I'm very proud of him! He's really made his way. A great healer, skilled engineer, and I see he's returned to armor-crafting -- even designing his own! But above that, he's just become an all-around good man. It's everything I could have ever hoped for.
However, the boy has this natural compassion and love for everyone, and while that's not necessarily a bad thing, it does mean he tries to fix things he has no way of fixing. It's left him heartbroken and confused many times. So if I could have offered him one piece of advice to help him out it would have been this:
Only guide, do not try to fix. The people you help, but don't try or need to fix, are the ones that are going to stick around and mean everything to you.
Even after all this time, he hasn't picked up on the pattern. I hope his current relationship is what makes it click for him.
