That’s my toddler’s first phrase.
Yeah. You read that right. Get out of here. I here it daily from my demon spawn beautiful toddler. She will say it in her room, my room, our house, at school, and out in public to my face.
The best thing about going out in public with her is that it’s more than likely alone, no ring on my finger, tattoos up my arm, and more than 93% of the time looking like the hot mess that I am. This leaves room for enough judgment stares already, throw in my 18-month-old telling me to “get out of here” and you would not believe the side-eye that gets thrown my way. Why is that? Why is there constant judging on moms, let alone single moms?
Single moms are bad-ass. You get to decide everything about how you parent, where your kid attends school, what meals they eat, and just how you live in general. You also get to decide all of that for you! I have not felt more alive, more confident, independent since becoming a single mom. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fucking hard. But, it’s well worth the challenge.
So to all the side-eyes, roll some back out. I’ll even have my toddler tell them to “get out of here”.
(I promise I don’t say that to my kid, we say it to the dogs... obviously a little too much).
