After two or three weeks (what is time anyway?) of focusing almost exclusively on one project (summer “camps”), Chick is back at her home desk trying to figure out what is next and where she left off. Which starts with staring at her notebook and hoping the stegosaurus figurine has some ideas.
Juggling Multiple Projects
For those of you who didn’t read my last post, I mentioned that I am currently juggling multiple different projects. I am currently working on a novel, a series of short stories, this blog, a story and articles for a fan-magazine, and I have at least 4 other things queued up to start soon.
Maybe I’m just a masochistic sucker for punishment. Why did I decide to work on so many different projects?…

How do you decide which project to work on?
I basically bounce back and forth, doing a chapter here and a chapter there, until something grabs me by the throat and refuses to let go. This happens around chapter 5 or 6, usually. Sometimes earlier. With House of Gears, it was chapter two. With Glass, it was chapter 1. With Eidolon, it was chapter 3. With Once, it was chapter one. Hasn’t happened yet with The Silver Princess but I think it will around chapter 6…although it might happen in chapter 4 if I can figure out what I’m doing with this kappa. Sometimes it happens later; I know with Empress of Ice & Oceans, it’s going to take a while because I have to keep breaking to consult my notes. Once I can stop doing that, it’ll pick up.
