NJ Senator proposes banning jughandles
From The Asbury Park Press:
It’s estimated that over 600 jughandles have sprung up at highway intersections [in New Jersey], though the state Department of Transportation doesn’t have an exact number or a date when the first one was constructed.
The DOT’s Road Design Manual defines a jughandle as an at-grade ramp provided at or between intersections to permit motorists to make indirect left turns or U-turns.
“People wait through three, sometimes four, light changes to get through the jughandles,” [State Senator] Holzapfel said. “Their day has come and gone.”
