36, 42, 77, 81 and 96 💖💖

42: mansion - nina nesbitt
"more than a bathroom with a phone light / as you're texting your friends / saying you're they're to get some closure / 'til he pulls you close again"
77: the end - halsey
"if you knew it was the end of the world / could you love me like a child? / could you hold me in the dark?"
81: cowboy like me - taylor swift
"now you hang from my lips / like the gardens of babylon / with your boots beneath my bed / forever is the sweetest con"
96: treachery - nina nesbitt
"'cause the wolves run wild / and I am a child / lost in a world of pretend / where I tell myself that you've gone to war / so you'll be a hero again"
ive connected the dots
@julesblackthorns i love you alex thank you!
i have nothing to offer book wise bc uni is kicking my ass but please tell me anything ab some books u have been reading lately.... if u love them or hate them and why...... 🤲💖
yeah... uni is also kicking my ass but i deal with that by reading a lot haha.
rule of wolves was garbage. got spoiled for the ending and decided it wasn't even worth finishing. yikes.
the greenhollow duology by emily tesh was gorgeous! i love the writing and the magical wood setting and the atmosphere. the romance, especially in book 2, was very pining (although the romance is not a huge focus) and i love gay pining. definitely some new fave fantasy novellas.
gender queer by maia kobabe is a graphic memoir that i really loved because some of the author's experiences really resonated with me (as a fellow genderqueer asexual). the art style was also lovely.
the silence of the girls by pat barker was definitely a new interesting take on the trojan war that really made me think? i didn't like all of it, but it was very interesting for sure.
phoenix extravagant by yoon ha lee was very mediocre. it has an interesting setting and magic system, but the main character and their romance just made me feel absolutely nothing. the open ending was also very annoying to me.
the wicker king by k. ancrum was also kind of disappointing? the short chapters didn't help with my attachment to any of the characters and i think some of the main issues with the codependent relationship at the heart of the story were resolved very well. the way it deals with trauma and mental illness is better, though. the author's note really shows that the author cares about treating these kinds of heavy topics well.
finna by nino cipri is a weird multidimensional portal fantasy/scifi novella that really charmed me in a weird way. it was very fun and i loved the main characters. definitely a good rec if someone really wants something different (i mean it's set in a multiverse of ikea-type stores! it's so fun).
currently reading you should see me in a crown by leah johnson (extremely disappointing so far; i like the main character but all the dramatic bullshit happening around her is just annoying lol) and the lamb will slaughter the lion by margaret killjoy (weird punk, anarchist horror? it's interesting so far but i think it will also be easily forgettable).
come talk to me about books!
omg happy birthday!!!!!!!!! virgo season delivering once again!
