He brushes his daughter’s curls out why Claire nurses three month old Julia Grace. Bree was right. Her mama was having a lass. Jamie couldn’t be upset with another lass. This one that he gets to raise from birth. A lass that is almost the spit of his wife. She shares her Mama’s brown curls and whisky eyes.
“Daddy, will you braid it back?”
“Aye lass.” His hands twist as he forms the braid, securing it with the ribbon she hands him. “There you are love. Now, do you have all your things?”
“Aye daddy.” He is heading for her first day of first grade. They have already talked to her teacher, as had Miss O’Malley. She will be continuing the tutoring. It is really all she can do. Over the summer, as she has helped her mama with her baby sister, she has also taught herself algebra, studied the history of Boston, which lead to a study of the American Revolution. She has adding French to her vocabulary. She can now speak it fluidly, as well as Hebrew, Latin, and Greek.
“Very good, say goodbye to your mama and Julia Grace.” She walks up and kisses her Mama’s offered cheek and the top of her sister’s head.
“להתראות אמא וסיסי. She says in flowing Hebrew.
“Good bye my darling. Try not to make your teacher feel stupid.”
She laughs. “I will try.” She takes her daddy’s hand. Jamie will be heading out to work after dropping Bree off. He is now a legal aid and assists Fredrick in preparing cases.
“Julia Grace, I believe that your sister said good bye to us but she could have been cursing for all I know.” Her daughter’s eyes meet hers as she continues to nurse. “Medicine is enough to keep my mind occupied. That and you girls and daddy. I can’t add learning other languages to it, right?”
The baby smiles around her nipple. She smiles back taking it as a yes. Julia is a calmer baby then Bree had been. More laid back. They can lay her in the playpen and she will play with the toys or her own hand or feet, for a good hour without fussing. It is a relief to them. Oh the adore Bree. Either would lay their life down for them without hesitation. But, the lass is exhausting. To keep her stimulated all the time.
Julia will be intelligent but maybe not to extent Bree is. That is not a bad thing. She lifts her up to burb her before changing her nappy and laying her down on the blanket for tummy time. She then sits and studies for her medical boards. They have a wonderful life. Two wonderful lasses. You wonderful careers. When she thinks about what her life and Bree’s life would have been like had Jamie not found a way through, she feels sick. Thank heavens, he did.
The end for now.

Today is July 1st. Its kind of hard to believe Julia will be here probably this month (due on the 29th so if she's a few days late she’ll be born in August). I’m so excited to meet her. I’m still not really afraid of birth but I think thats because I’ve spent years educating myself (I really want to do doula work one day so its something I’ve done a lot of self study on) about it before even becoming pregnant but especially since I have been. I also feel good about my birth team and where I’ll be giving birth. I know I am very supported by my husband, midwife and doula. I finally told my family about the no visitors at the hospital and not until we are home and settled and they took it surprisingly well. That was the only thing giving me anxiety recently. I feel good and about as ready as I’ll ever be, because like yeah I don't feel fully ready but I never will lol. I’m so excited to see what she will be like. See her little face. Feel her from outside by body. I can't wait.
my dear sweet lovely friend gave me a 2017 calendar of sunflowers
