Christine, certified girl boss.
A direction I wish was used more. After everything that happens, seeing Christine almost intimidate the Phantom is so satisfying.

STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND LOOK AT HIM!!!
been watching a bunch of bootlegs. had some thoughts on the gals. might eventually discuss my Thots on the phantoms and raouls but only a few of them left much of an impression (I will say my opinions on Howard McGillan and Jim Weitzer significantly improved)
Ana Marina blew me away. I’ve seen some people say she overacted, and I could see that but overall I just found her very expressive and playful. With some exceptions, I generally prefer my Christines to overact than underact and this was definitely the case with Ana. She would be one of my all time favourites if it weren’t for her vibrato. Not a fan
On the flip side, I also hated Marie Danvers’ vibrato at first but by act two I had kind of warmed up to it. I normally hate too much shrill vibrato but I quite liked hers by the end of the video. Overall she was a generally subtle actress with some exaggerated moments but I really liked her. She had some adorable facial expressions and movements, but my favourite thing about her is that she expressed a subtle but very real growth throughout the show. She was also pretty cold to her phantom, with a fantastic gasp of disgust when James Romick grabs her in the Final Lair.
Melissa Dye has a much more youthful voice than I expected. She sounds super light and very young. I’m a huge fan of her voice as it kind of makes up for me being unable to see anything due to the quality of the video. I very much enjoyed what I could see of her acting though. She had some super graceful movements, especially during the title song and angel of music. She also had a fair amount of relatively nuanced moments that I enjoyed, like her cute little jump of suprise when she sees the phantom in the mirror. She had some really good chemistry with Laird Mackintosh and Paul Stanley, who I just can’t bring myself to dislike despite his voice being uhh like That.
Julia Moller🥺🥺such an absolutely lovely voice! And a lovely Christine! Very cute although at times in act one I felt like she could be more expressive, but her singing more than made up for that most of the time. Her act two really picked up though with an emotional yet restrained Wishing, flirty Aminta, and a nuanced, slightly fiesty final lair. Overall a very sweet Christine.
I was less impressed with Adrienne McEwan. Her voice is interesting and I loved it, despite being able to hear some nerves. It was so distinct I could pick it out throughout all of masquerade. Her acting was...pretty inconsistent. I flip flopped all over the place trying to decide if I liked it or not. She was very good in her nervous scenes, with very good nuances, but up until I Remember she was pretty bland, and during aiaoy she flipped between going-through-the-motions and being super nuanced and energetic. I did decide I like her though, as I like her voice and her good scenes were enough to make up for her bad ones (I‘ll also give her the benefit of the doubt and assume this is an off night for her given that she collapsed panting after wishing though lol).
Could do a gif set of all the phantoms that fuss and rearrange Christine’s veil in the final lair?
Not all of them, because that would be way too many, but here are a handful!
1. Juan Carlos Barona & Julia Moller | 2. Andrey Shkoldychenko & Elena Bahtiyarova | 3. Laird Mackintosh & Julia Udine | 4. Ivan Ozhogin & Tamara Kotova | 5. Hugh Panaro & Sandra Joseph | 6. David Arnsperger & Valerie Link | 7. Thomas Borchert & Anne Gorner | 8. Ramin Karimloo & Gina Beck
