"Remember that the most valuable antiques are dear old friends." 🏺✨ - H. Jackson Brown Jr.
If you had to create a Young Avengers book set in space, with the current context of Teddy being the Emperor of space, which heroes would you pick for that team? Any stories you would explore?
Tommy and Cassie for sure, and Billy and Tommy. Also Phyla-Vell and Moondragon. But we can’t really call it young avengers anymore. THey’re Avengers. I think this would be part political (Different races who aren’t on board with the alliance, Shi’Ar going all...eeeh we only talk to the mutants), part searching for other family members, hence how they find Phyla.
If they know Phyla eventually they meet the rest of the guardians. Rocket and Tomy would get along great.
Maybe Riki and Julia too. Like they show up on their own ship to rescue everyone and Rikki just looks at all of them and goes “Where’s Eli?” and Tommy just grumbles something about law school being stupid under his breath.
But as lovely as this all sounds it's not like anyone’s going to hire me anytime soon.
“Influenza delle stelle” – explains Dr. Lynn to Julia Power meaning “the heavens were governing (…) fates”.
I think about the secret language and the subtle manipulations of female nurses towards male doctors who knew nothing of the birthing women and all with the purpose to protect, to spare their flesh of more suffering.
I think about how Julia Power doesn’t appreciate dark humor.
I think about silent Tim, Julia’s brother, and his broken bond with his friend, about Julia taking her brother for granted.
I think about this enclosed book set in a claustrophobic room, the medical aspects, the enduring and broken women, the suffering without respite and I marvel at how this terse-written book took to me. In doing so, it spares no sensibilities, it doesn’t tiptoe around the subject, we get a glimpse of hospital life during a pandemic, we get to see these selfless people do their job or whatever they can to help. It doesn’t let us forget that they are people too.
All in all, I liked this book so much!
