Under the Dome book review... There may be spoilers... I don't really know...
I feel the need to get a short backstory out before I begin the review of this book…
This book was recommended to me by a very special person in my life. He and one of my best friends helped me when my own family kicked me to the curb. They became my family and I love them dearly. When he offered to let me read Under the Dome i kept putting it off because I was intimidated by the size of it… And for good reason… But I am sad to say that I put it off for too long. Once I finished it I wanted to discuss it with him but I am unable to do so and for that I am sad… I do not wish to dive furthur into why I cannot because just typing this has brought upon tears. But I am thankful for him and his family. I am especially thankful for him letting me borrow this book, because this book made me view people and life just a little bit differently. Now on to the book review…
I have a love/hate relationship with this book. I love it and I hate it all at the same time. I thought the story was interesting but it does drag on in some places for far too long. A lot of the information Stephen King provides seems slightly irrelevant to the actual plot of the story. I hate it because Stephen King is realistic in what could happen during such an event… What I mean by this is that just because a character is a child or older does not mean their life will be spared… Just because you like a character does not mean that life will be spared either. Stephen King is smart in his writing. I love it because their was so much to see in this world Under the Dome. I will admit that a lot of the crap that happened in this book was cringeworthy… A lot of it made me sick, but that is what makes Stephen King an excellent writer.
Characters:
Jim Rennie: I hate this guy. He was just so evil and kiniving. He made me sick. He was a brilliant villain. He knew what to say, when to say it, and how to say it to get what he wanted.
Junior: He was just nasty. He made me more sick than his father, Jim. I felt slightly bad for Junior because he had a brain tumor that caused his problems. But i was still sickened by him.
Sam Bushey: While I was not a fan of him, I did find him hilarious at times. I was mad that he was an idiot though and caused a lot of deaths with his fooloshness.
Julia Shumway: she was one of my favorite characters. I love how she was not going to back down from anybody. She would stand up for what is right. But she was smart about it. And she saved the survivors because she is Brilliant!
Barbie: My other favorite character. He was a badass. Even when he was getting his ass kicked he was a badass. He was also smart about what needed to be done and how it should be done. And he helped Julia save the survivors.
There are so many other characters in this book I would like to discuss but time is not of the essence. I shall update this later when I have a chance.
All in all I enjoyed this book even if it did take me a year to read.
