July Loves : Stripes

Above, left moving clockwise: Mamie Ruth Evie Shorts are the perfect peach, magenta and royal purple that adds a ton of fun to any outing!  Sherry’s Honey Pot has this sweet pick stitch stripe fabric that would be great for an ottoman or some accent pillows! Beetnix new chia puddings are striped [ok, layered] but awesome for breakfast on the go! shopSCAD artist Emily Cox’s piece Puff and Fluff For Lunch has a wonderful array of pastel stripes that i love!

Above, top left, clockwise:  Alison Seeger has stripes in the car and on her in her spreads from volume one and two.  Paprika Southern captured this great stripe shot for their Summer Issue, shot at The Brice. Mamie Ruth Ringleader bralette and shorts are perfect stripe partners without being too matchy matchy!

Above, from top left, clockwise:  Satchel has this leather trimmed ticking stripe beach bag that is classic in size, shape and material. shopSCAD’s Lacoste Tee by Paige Russel. Mamie Ruth’s Drug Rug Vest is so fun and funky with bold stripes! Christina Edwards’ series focused on vintage circus imagery features some red stripes on a few images. Ely of De Colores Cookies did the classic striped snow cone in cookie form and it is just toooooo sweet! Bleu Companies has this gorgeous Byron Lars dress with striped bodice that is just to die for! Beetnix’s unicorn bowl has a wonderful stripping on top of fruits and toppings like bee pollen, hemp seed granola & coconut.

JULY LOVES : NAVY Roundup

Above: Bleu Companies as you may guess has a wonderful assortment of beautiful bleutimous things but this wall color is one thing that has us swooning over navy!

Above: top left, clockwise:  shopSCAD artist, Brian Slagle’s Nasty Woman 2, is a mixed media piece that’s part of a triple threat of nasty women collages in shop now. Mamie Ruth always keeping us stylish and summer in this tie dye romper in the perfect shade of navy! Satchel gives all the summer vibes with this photo shoot of a gorgeous blue bag and crisp white dress. Christina Edwards’ Full Moon Canyon, features layers of poured paint in deep purples, navy, white and blues, this is a detail shot from that piece. M Liz Jewelry double layered necklace features kyanite, this beautiful navy stone as well as some matte beads for the second strand.

M Liz Jewelry’s Hoop to Crystal earrings come in beautiful kyanite that can easily be dressed up or down! De Colores Cookies y Mas created a whole set of chinoiserie inspired cookies! Southern Sugaring carries beautiful Cosa Bella lingerie and this navy lacy bralette is so beautiful!

JULY LOVES: SPARKLING WINE ROUNDUP

I asked Brenda and Gary at Smith Brothers Butcher Shop to share some of the recommendations for easy drinking, yummy sparkling wines and this is the list they sent back, of course, all available at their shop on East Liberty!

Francois Montand Brut French Sparkling Wine, according to their website the palate is creamy and smooth, with lingering aromas, freshly baked bread, golden delicious apples and Meyer lemons - harmonious. 

Veuve Cliquot Brut True French Champagne & a classic choice, obviously!

Gruet Brut Rosé “A beautiful garnet in color, this Rose NV has a delicate, fine mousse and rich, fruit flavors. This full-bodied sparkler starts with floral and berry aromas which introduce flavors of cherry. raspberry and wild strawberry, finishing delicately with zesty acidity. “

Blanc de Bleu Unusual California Sparking Wine with a beautiful blue color from added blueberry juice.

JULY LOVES : PALM FRONDS

Palm Frond Party with fun bio shots of founder Caty Cote, from Flourish Collaborative. This diptych of encaustics from Christina Edwards transports us to summer time in Miami, where Christina splits her time. Another great palm shot from Flourish, and a peek into the queen of spiky foliage, Alison Seeger’s home, where she has stuck a few fronds into that gorgeous vase on her buffet.

Another great shot of Caty, from Flourish Collaborative and those amazing brows with a perfect frond. The queen strikes again with this shot!  Alison’s kitchen which is perfect with the simple color scheme and a fun shot of a handmade bracelet from Lettees.

And Casey Schivera’s spread in volume three features tons of great greenery but those palm fronds right beyond the gate are super beautiful, don’t you think?

JULY LOVES: TOMATOES

One of my favorite foods to eat in the summer is tomatoes. Fresh, ripe and delicious, they are great on sandwiches, alone with some salt, or part of a delicious caprese!

This tomato jam recipe from Mark Bittman is one of my favorites and it is great way to use the bounty from your garden and spread it on toast or crackers!

INGREDIENTS

1 1/2 pounds good ripe tomatoes (Roma are best), cored and coarsely chopped

1 cup sugar

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice

1 tablespoon fresh grated or minced ginger

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

1 teaspoon salt

1 jalapeño or other peppers, stemmed, seeded and minced, or red pepper flakes or cayenne to taste.

PREPARATION

1.  Combine all ingredients in a heavy medium saucepan, Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring often.

2. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until mixture has consistency of thick jam, about 1 hour 15 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning, then cool and refrigerate until ready to use; this will keep at least a week.

Yield: About 1 pint.

JULY LOVES

1. TOMATOES : sweet and delicious right out of the garden, nothing is better than that!

2. GRILLING : cooking inside during these hot hot days is a no no nope! Nice to get the grill going and then just throw all the meats and veggies on it!

3.PALM FRONDS : clean and crisp, perfect for summer, nothing fussy, long lasting and interesting as a centerpiece.

4.BRIGHT LIPS : the heat makes me gravitate to brighter and brighter colors. I guess because the sun gets brighter and brighter, the colors can be bolder!

5. SPARKLING WINE ; chilled, bubbles, rose: need i say more?

6. NAVY : crisp navy has nautical vibes too which always feel apopro for this time for year.

7. STRIPES : see above, that little nautical vibe, boating, et al.

JULY LOVES : VANILLA

Above:  S. Tallevast Interiors pulled together this vingette with beautiful vanilla texture, shine and sparkle!

Maybe ice cream was on the brain, which would make sense with these temps!  That may be just what led me to July’s color of the month:  Vanilla. I just think there is something more flattering to a little warmth added to our whites. Apparently our members agree. See what I rounded up from around the TSG Savannah network!

Lily Bay has the most deliciously soft scarves in a delectable vanilla in stock now. Mamie Ruth has this great coverup tunic that I would pair with leggings for fall too! MultiStone counters in Carrarra Gold marbled stone really makes this kitchen design POP!

Stephanie Tallevast designed this room in all white with many textures, finishes and details that show you neutrals are never boring! Clutter has a set of these wonderful textured throw pillows that would look divine on a navy sofa! Lily Bay has these textured plates just perfect for serving porch dinners on.

Lily Bay has this gorgeous linen flag that I just can’t imagine not owning! We were thinking it would be awesome to cover an ottoman with!

JULY LOVES

Summer is the annual permission slip to be lazy. To do nothing and have it count for something. To lie in the grass and count the stars. To sit on a branch and study the clouds. -Regina Brett

1. Sun Hats : It’s bright out there and the face gets a lot of sun. Best to keep covered and cool with a great sun hat!

2. Weavings: this one from SCAD alumni Abbey Eilermann is a wonderful combination of colors and textures.

3. Metallic Accented Manicures : a little silver sliver is a fun way to get more wear out of a gell manicure!

4. Rattan :  the perfect material for outdoor furniture or for adding texture indoors!

5. Watermelon : in season and jucy delicious goodness. 

6. Pink Lips : au natural for summer or at least looks like it’s all natural! Nothing makes already glowing skin pop like a nice pink lip!

7. Vanilla Bean : a bit warmer than white but still just as crisp, clean and refreshing for these summer months.
