Positively overjoyed about the return of this fun lil' wordsharing event today thanks to @blackbloodteeth! I have dearly missed seeing everyone's words. Lately I've been in a 👻summerween👻 kind of mood, so I've been pecking away at my werewolf smut fic (you know, the one that I started writing literally like... two years ago 🤣) here's a non-smutty little preview for my snippet offering today:
"You know even though I’m a woman, I was one of the youngest hunters ever to receive this mark?”
The Albarn family crest— he knows it well. He knew it well before he saw it on Maka’s arm for the first time, has known it since he was merely a boy. A boy whose humanity hadn’t yet been stolen from him, a boy who hadn’t yet been turned wolf. A boy who had no idea how his life would change when the red-haired man arrived on the doorstep of his parents’ estate— and no idea about the green-eyed little girl who would arrive with him and bring so much light into his life.
So much light, and love.
“Maka.” He reaches for her now, voice low as one of his grotesque, unworthy hands finds her delicate wrist, as his fingers close around branded skin. “Stop.”
She blinks at him in confusion, eyelashes fluttering rapidly and a note of incredulity in her voice when she speaks. “Stop? I don't know what you’re—”
“You don’t need to prove anything to me.” He closes the space between them, first aid supplies forgotten, tossed away to the floor at her feet, and his body moves as though controlled by some unseen force, a gravitational pull drawing him directly into Maka’s embrace.
“Soul—”
“And besides…” His face is inches from hers now as he reaches for a strand of her matted hair. With a tenderness that still surprises him after all this time, he works a clump of mud from the flaxen lock, the claws of his right hand weaving through dirt and grime and soft, silken gold as gently as he can manage. He searches her face, drinking in the sight of her in the dim light— every last freckle, every dimple and precious imperfection. “Did it ever occur to you that you could be both strong and fragile at once?”
