Ma there's a weird looking witch outside the house.

haven't drawn her in a while, it's the oc yugioh duel monster card and partner in crime for Jun herself, Calamity Coven Firestarter. she and her friends were posted here a while ago and i felt like drawing her up again. For her and any other OC monster cards i might just draw them and not touch up their designs...more or less.

I did change her up a tiny bit...

Yugioh Stars Character Sheets Re-Done: The Main Trio

Finally finished the updated designs for the main trio for my oc thing for yugioh.

The main protag, Yuji Hoshino, is barely changed, not gonna lie. Just added a pattern on his jacket to align with what i want the school uniform to be like. Personality wise made him more sarcastic more of a straight man to the weird stuff around him, and more prone to fighting, adding to his backstory a former delinquent element, but hes still the toku loving nerd when i first thought him up

Jun Ryuga changed the most, gave her a more formal dress to highlight her background and leaned more into gothic lolita fashion. while also more of a dragon themed twist. If anything i made her more restrained and emotionally closed...kinda. Truth is this is only one facet of Jun im showing off, and there's another side to her. Im still keeping the design for the "Calamity Witch' the same.

Kenta Kuranai got more friendlier and got himself a new sweater with a different colored jacket. He's more buddy buddy from the start, but shifts into a serious mode when dueling. Also colored some of his bang differently, maybe will change color in-story several times depending on the mood.

will discuss more about the changes and more fleshed out story of this later.

Yugioh Stars Characters #2: Jun Ryuga re-done

Name: Jun Ryuga

Age: 14-16 (tentative)

School year: 1

School: Starbright Academy

Deck for fortune telling: Depends on the person she's foretelling for.

Duel Disk: KC Duel Disk v.9

Disliked person: Anyone who mistreats their cards

People she finds intriguing: Anyone who believes in the occult, her middle school "servants", Yuji Hoshino and Kenta Kuranai

Likes: Duel Monsters, Occult materials, fortune reading, Her cards' Duel Spirits, reading books, dark rooms to gather thoughts in, being alone.

Dislikes: Her family, dueling and the inherit competitive nature of it, harming or mistreating duel spirits, mocking cards, being left alone, hurting others, feeling empty at impromptu moments, Kenta Kuranai (he keeps saying magic isn't real)

Alternative Career: Working at Ryuga Entertainment presumably, due to nepotism. If she had her way, she would like to be a librarian or duel monster historian, as long as she's left alone.

Frequently summoned/Ace monster: She wouldn't inflict that upon her cards...

 The Ryuga Group is known to be the top of the line for home entertainment, especially in Duel innovations. Being so rich, of course the Ryuga Family can shove their kids in Starbright without any worry. The youngest of the family, Jun Ryuga is a quiet girl who shows no outward emotion towards anything, even towards her odd obsession with the occult. Despite her desire to be kept alone, she finds her caught up in whatever problem of the week Yuji and friends find themselves. She is super blind without her glasses, and always wear her black arm gloved everywhere, refusing physical contact. She does show affection towards one of her cards, a monster card displaying a witch using fire powers.

Voice: monotone. soft tone, sound ominous when discussing occult stuff, shows slightly more emotion. speaks overly polite and archaic, does not use contradictions or shortened words (will never use 'can't' or "they'd" for example)

Tics: Holding hands together in front of themselves. adjusting the front bang away from eye. Placing hand over face when in deep thought.

Common phrases:

"Your fate has been decided."

"Apologies, but I simply do not comprehend."

"It is quite obvious; magic exists."

Prim and without emotion, this so called 'witch' will make an impact upon Starbright Academy. Fortune or Calamity, its up to fate to decide.

Trusted servants: Anyone who believes in the occult, anyone who submits themselves as their peons and servants (their friends), their partner in crime Calamity Coven Firestarter

Likes: Duel Monsters, Occult materials, fortune reading, Their cards' Duel Spirits, showboating, gloating and hearing their own voice, winning, "cursing" people

Dislikes: harming or mistreating duel spirits, mocking cards, being left alone, hurting others, feeling empty at impromptu moments, Kenta Kuranai (he KEEPS saying magic isn't real WHICH EVERYONE KNOWS THAT IT SUPER IS AND-), losing in games (they're a very sore loser)

Alternative Career: A witch doesn't need a job. Maybe a keeper of untold knowledge and cursed tomes though...(A librarian or Duel Monster mythology historian)

Frequently summoned/Ace monster: Calamity Dragon Bella Yule

A mysterious figure who often appears out of nowhere to enact their own brand of vengeance if they deem the duelist to be a danger to others and their cards. In actuality, they're an weird overactive theatrical student with bright crimson hair shaped like a dragon's mouth/head' with yellow highlights and a blabbermouth. Prideful, loud, and brutally blunt and straightforward, they seek to be the center of attention while also paradoxically trying to avoid attention; as if they seek validation but not the limelight. Against his will, Yuji has become their 'peon' during their first meeting, so whenever they show up, it's bound to be a problem for him.

TOTALLY NOT JUN RYUGA

Voice: A rough masculine speaking manner, often bursts into long tangents, but can also be quite blunt and rude. Can be eloquent, then suddenly childish throwing schoolyard insults at people they're mad at.

Tics: Holding hands together in front of themselves. adjusting the front bang away from eye. Placing hand over face when in deep thought.

Common Phrases:

"Justice has been delivered!"

"The moment you draw that card, your fate will be decided."

"Vengeance!"

"Come on, peons! Let's get to it!"

Such a trustworthy, almighty, and powerful witch to serve under. Totally not a repressed awkward girl with strange duel monster-related powers living out their fantasies.

Past meets the present

Some drawings for my yugioh OC trio interacting with their pre-main story selves (well, 'interacting' in Jun's case, she doesn't want to acknowledge them).

Been work shopping Jun for a while now and it only came to my attention about several weeks ago that i might have added an element to her arc that i didn't notice was blatant until now. her family issues and abandonment issues alongside her repressed feelings and compartmentalization were intended but more i drafted her story the more i come to realize something. And upon realizing that, i decided to try leaning more into it, making the subtext into plain text. I think by now i have a better grasp on her character, so i decided to draw some sketches about it

In hindsight, having one of her concept inspirations be umineko should have been the biggest flag honestly but ya know. better late than never.

if this was a proper show, I feel like this wouldn't be said upfront; it would be like hints throughout the story, but around like arc 3 itll be more evident that she's hiding something other than her feelings. It helps that thanks to her "magic"/ esper abilities, she can change her appearance/voice to what she feels, but since its emotion based and too much emotion = red hair witch mode (which blasts all of her emotions up to max for the world to see) she believes she needs to stifle herself to keep it in reign, because thats totally healthy yup.
