1921 Juncosa Football Serie A - No.19 Paulino Alcántara and Ricardo Zamora
In this beautiful card issued during 1921 in Spain by Juncosa, at least two true legends are illustrated.
The one holding the ball, in the foreground, is Paulino Alcantara, a very interesting case of a player: the youngest player to play or score for Barcelona (at his 15 years!), the first Asian player (born in the Philippines) to play in Europe and one of the highest goal scorers in Barcelona’s history with 369 goals in 357 games. To top all these, Alcantara retired in 1927 and became a doctor.
In the background, wearing his typical cloth cap and white polo-neck, is Ricardo Zamora - one of the most legendary goalkeepers ever. He was nicknamed "el Diví" (The Divine One) for a reason. The award for the best goalkeeper in La Liga, the Ricardo Zamora Trophy, is named in his honour.
