John Carpenter's The Thing is my favorite movie of all time, but I just realized the day-night cycle makes no sense. The movie explicitly takes place in "the first goddamn week of winter," so the sun should be below the horizon from the start, but it opens during the day (MacReady even says it's so bright there's a risk of a total whiteout).  Several days pass, and we see it go from day to night to day to night a few times
