What is your opinion on… 25. Smut?

HA. Um. 90% of the time I dig it (the other 10% is when I’m feelin’ nah about it but usually when I’m in that mood I’m not even online), mostly re: writing it. Especially if uh I need my fill and I haven’t really indulged myself in porn lately I’m like WELL, IT’S TIME TO WRITE NOTHING BUT PORN FOR A WEEK.

Which has happened more than once in all honesty >_> My brain is just like “it’s time... to do the porn thing” and I’m just like “okay.” Especially if I’m listening to something or something just brings something up with me that really gets me going and I’m like WELL IT’S TIME TO SPEND AN HOUR WRITING PORN ABOUT MARK AND EDUARDO FUCKING TO A BEYONCE SONG. coughs.

Regardless of my mood when it comes to porn it always turns out pretty decent, I’ve found. There have been a handful of times in the past where I was really less than into feeling like writing sex but the fic called for it so I was like BEH and pushed myself for over an hour trying to make “insert tab A into slot B” more interesting. But when I read them back I’m like, wow, this is pretty hot, good job sex repulsed me? Hm.

Re: reading, it really depends for me. It depends on my investment in the ship in all honesty, or how the fic feels to me; I get really bored when I read Merlin/Arthur porn so even if I’m reading an NC-17 fic that’s well written, I’ll likely skip the smutty sections. Eduardo/Mark I’m super invested in probably any permutation of porn with them (HA coughs), and sometimes I’m like.... don’t wanna read sex at all, give me romcom stuff and cute smooches. 

I’m a lot more fickle with reading porn than writing it, but mostly because I’ve written so much porn that it all feels the ~same~ to me and I’m used to going from setup -> buildup -> hot and heavy -> orgasm LMAO.

What fics have made you... 55. Aroused?

LMAO SDLFKJL KATIE PLEASE probably any Eduardo/Mark porn thing tbh LMAO again it really depends on... my sexual investment in the pairing.

Um, for other fandoms, I get really picky when it comes to reading porn in all honesty. Characterization is actually a big factor for me when it comes to porn? Most of TSN fandom does both Eduardo and Mark pretty well; but if I can read a fic despite disagreeing with its characterization but get to the porny bits, I’ll probably skip over it, even if I’m invested in the fic.

I don’t really want to list specific fics in case it weird authors out (though really anything in the Explicit rating for Eduardo/Mark, plus also guess it’s hard to fall, the ABOS fic that changed my life... >_>), but I will say that also Draco/Harry NC-17 fics get me pretty good, especially the long ones.

What is your opinion on... 74. Smut?

In all honesty I think smut as a genre is one that needs to be redeemed, especially with the popularity and attention that 50SoG got. I feel like it’s been mostly marketed and mocked for being an erotica novel, but to me I’ve been mocking it more because it’s a bad erotica novel, lmao.

There’s this thing I’ve seen a lot online and in fandom about what phrases not to use in porn, what words to avoid, and what words/phrases are preferable. I don’t really... like those lists, mostly because they feel discouraging and can make porn writers hyper conscious about their diction rather than really sinking into the scene, you know what I mean? Like honestly, if a writer can make the word “wang” hot, I’ll fucking applaud them.

I mean it’s probably hard to make “meat stick” sexual and hot BUT if someone can pull that off in writing I’d be delighted? Smut is a pretty questionable genre to other people as it is but I think there’s something admirable about being able to transpose the feelings and sensuality of a very intimate experience to words (especially for people who haven’t actually experienced it); for those who are into it, I think all encouragement is wonderful and necessary \:D/
