Maybe a hot take, but personally I think Jinu actually abandoning his mother and sister makes for a better character arc.
I've seen some fans share the idea that Gwi-Ma manipulated Jinu's memories to control him. Not a bad theory honestly. Gwi-Ma is a master manipulator. The ultimate intrusive thought stuck in your head.
However, from a narrative perspective, I feel it works better if Jinu actually made a very selfish choice. We've all been young and desperate. And I'm sure we've all made at least one bad choice in our life that screwed over someone else: Friends, Colleagues and yes even our own family. I definitely have.
We need to learn how to recognize those bad decisions we made and then how to forgive our past selves.
Or else the shame/ guilt will continue to eat away at us like a hungry demon king.
