Junior (1994) dir. Ivan Reitman | Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito, Emma Thompson
A whole month of queer movies for pride 🌈 [17/30]
How was the Arnold Schwarzenegger mpreg movie? I've only side-eyed it with morbid curiosity, but I feel like that cast might make it work.
it was SO MUCH FUN!! i super recommend it tbh, and the cast absolutely goes all in. you will see danny devito and Arnold Schwarzenegger get mistaken for a gay couple. you will see emma thompson being a hot clumsy awkward scientist lady. you will to see Arnold Schwarzenegger say, "My body, my choice" in a pivotal dramatic moment. 10/10 experience.
all in all a very charming movie, and surprisingly earnest! in general all the characters are really happy for Arnold and his baby and they genuinely want to help. you will of course get some classic 1990s American heteronormativity and cisnormativity, as would be expected from the premise, but none of it felt mean spirited to me.
tl;dr, tumblr should be obsessed with this movie, and i'm shocked that it's not.
The writer’s barely disguised mpreg fetish: Doctor edition
I can’t believe it’s two years since I last ziggyposted, where does the time go 😭
A fact about the world is that there exists a movie wherein danny devito mpregs arnold schwarzeneggar with emma thompson's baby. It came out thirty whole fucking years ago, thanksgiving season 1994. It's got this weird thing going on where if you're reading it through a trans lens it ricochets between extremely transmasc (male pregnancy!) and extremely transfem (arnold's character is literally on hrt & at points presents intentionally as a woman). Emma Thompson has some lines that read as incredibly, jarringly terfy, but her character eventually comes around. Watched this last night for my friends' weird movie monday and it's an oddly competent film that was clearly intended to be a "hey cis men, empathize with cis women!" statement but like. Winds up simultaneously portraying bits of transition & getting them surprisingly accurate for the time & asking "what if biological sex were more malleable than we assume" and yet there is only one mention of the real-life existance of trans people (to compare Arnold's hormone regimen to "someone preparing for a sex change operation"). It's like if someone adapted a novel-length mpreg fic from the mid-2000s to screen. It flopped in the box office but I desperately need tumblr to know it exists what a fascinating cultural artifact

Do you ship it?

Guys. I have an idea. C'mere.
"Ghostbusters" (any iteration) x "Junior" (1994) crossover where Winston gets pregnant as an experiment, with Ray and Egon supervising him in the firehouse. And maybe Peter being the one who impregnated him as a part of the experiment.
I came up with it just because both "Ghostbusters" and "Junior" were produced by Ivan Reitman. Besides, MPreg is funny and cute.
Edit: I also just realised that "Ghostbusters" came out 10 years before "Junior" (1984 vs. 1994). Funny, innit? And adds even more reason for the crossover.
