Summary: You and Jungkook have been nothing more than friends for years, and a drunk confession just might change everything for you.
Genre: Fluff, non idol au
Pairing: Jeon Jungkook x Best Friend! Reader
“Baby, I have loved you since we were eighteen.”
You never were a big drinker. You liked to party, but you actually enjoyed the party part more. Instead of getting wasted to the point of your memory being erased, you actually liked to remember what happened the night before.
The same couldn’t be said for your best friend. Jungkook waddled beside you as you led him to his car. He wasn’t completely wasted, but just to the point that he needed guidance to help him think straight.
“Do we have to leave?” He mumbled, letting you drag him towards the gray car.
You opened the passenger door, helping him get inside. “Jungkook you can barely walk on your own, plus the party’s dying down anyways.”
“But we were having fun!” He waved his arms around a little bit, making you giggle slightly. Once he was in the car, you helped him buckled up before moving around to the driver side.
You got in the car, glancing over at the man. “You know what sounds even more fun? Going home and sleeping.”
He nodded in agreement as you started the car. It wasn’t the first time you had driven his car, and it certainly won’t be the last. He always wanted to take his car instead of yours. You never knew why since you always had to drive back home, but you never thought to question it.
“Are you staying over?” He asked. He looked at you with those big puppy dog eyes that you couldn’t stand. The state alone made you weak in the knees.
“I have no choice Kook. I can’t just take your car home, and I’m not walking this late at night.” You could’ve taken a bus or something, but you were always too tired to even think of it.
It was like a tradition of sorts. After every party, you’d always end up sleeping over at his place. His roommates never seemed to mind. They were hardly ever there anyways.
Jungkook didn’t argue as you drove the two of you to his place. You could’ve stayed at your dorm, but you didn’t want to wake your roommate up. She had a big test tomorrow and you didn’t want to be the reason she failed it.
It didn’t take long to reach his house, and by the time you had gotten there he was already asleep. With his head pressed against the window, he slept peacefully.
You looked at him closely, watching as his chest rose and fell with each breath he took. You knew he was beautiful, and you’d drop anything and everything for this man. You knew it was silly to have a crush on your best friend, but you couldn’t help it. The way he was always there for you made your heart melt.
He was there for you through it all. When your first boyfriend dumbed you, when said boy tried to get back with you just to hurt you again. He was there when your dad died, holding you and sobbing along with you until you fell asleep in his arms.
He was your safe space. Jungkook was your person. Whether it be platonic or romantic, he was your soulmate, and you weren’t going to gamble losing him over your feelings.
Shaking your thoughts out of your head, you nudged the man awake, smiling softly when he lifted his head. “We’re here sleepy head.”
His eyes moved around, looking outside the windows. He was processing everything, his drunk mind going into overtime.
You didn't wait for a reply before getting out of the car to help him get out himself. He grabbed onto your arm, letting you pull him towards the front door. Before you could put the key inside the lock, the door swung open to reveal Taehyung, one of Jungkook's roommates.
"Thanks." You shot him a thankful smile before walking passed him and into the house.
"I heard you pull up, and I figured you could use some help." He grabbed Jungkooks arm from you before bending down to pick him up bridal style. You snickered at the sight, making sure to snap a quick picture to show him in the morning.
"Can't complain too much." You mused as you followed him into Junngkook's room. "Because of him I'm actually getting a bit stronger."
"You don't get tired of dragging his drunk ass around every weekend?"
You shrugged, watching as he set the already asleep boy on the bed. "Not really. I wouldn't be a good best friend if I left him at the party drunk."
"I'm sure he wouldn't mind." The smirk Taehyung gave you made you throw one of Jungkook's pillows at him. He easily dodged the pillow on his way out of the door.
You turned your attention back to the boy on the bed. He looked so peaceful, which was the opposite to his natural personality. Jungkook was a natural funny person, which made him fun to be around. He was always himself with everyone.
You took his shoes off his feet, tossing them to the side. Pulling the blanket over his body, you made sure he was content before turning to walk away. You didn't make it far before Jungkook reached out to grab your hand.
"Stay." He mumbled. You stood still, not sure if he was talking to you or not. Yeah, you were the only one there, but for all you knew he could've been dreaming. "Y/n. Stay with me."
Your breath got caught in your throat as he whispered your name. He was talking to you. He wanted you to stay with him. To sleep in the same bed as him.
It wouldn't have been the first time the two of you shared a bed, but it was never intentional. Usually you were in the middle of a movie night, and both of you ended up falling asleep. You had never crossed that boundary, and you weren't sure if you wanted to or not.
"Is that really a good idea?" You held in your feelings, not wanting to express them to someone who would only forget once they fell asleep. "You're drunk Jk."
"And you're taking care of me." He whined. You huffed, knowing he would become a whiny mess if you left him here. "I'm tired of you sleeping on the couch."
Deep down, you were curious as to where it would lead, not that you'd let it get out of hand.
You were best friends, what's the worst that could happen from a little bit of cuddling?
You ushered for him to scoot over, and her happily did so. After, you slid beside him, letting him place the blanket over your body. You thought he would turn around and go to sleep, but no. Instead, he wrapped his arm around your waist and pulled you closer.
Your heart began to race, and you prayed he wouldn't be able to hear it. It was false hope. You were so close you could feel his heartbeat, so you were sure he could feel yours racing.
"If you're uncomfortable just say so, and I'll turn around."
You kept quiet for a moment, processing everything. You would be lying if you said you didn't like it. The way his body was pressed against your made you feel all warm inside. You wanted to stay this way forever.
A comfortable silence filled the room, and you closed your eyes. With his body heating up your cold one, you could've easily fell asleep if he hadn't started talking once more.
"Can I tell you something Y/N?"
Your eyes opened again, even though you couldn't see anything in the darkness. "Of course."
"Do you remember in our third year of high school, at the homecoming dance?"
"Of course. How could I forget?" You smiled at the memory. "You almost busted your ass on the dance floor-"
"That's when I realized I loved you." He cut you off. Your eyes widened at his words, unsure if they held a deeper meaning or not. You and Jungkook had always said 'I love you' to one another, even before your third year of high school.
"We had no dates, so when you suggested we just go together I was thrilled. Everyone thought we were a couple, and when that slow song came on and we dance together I realized. The way you glowed under the lights that night. The smile you gave me, and the way you were softly singing the song. All of it made me realize just how much I cared about you."
"What are you saying Jungkook?"
Your breath was caught in your throat, and you could feel your body buzzing as you waited for his answer.
"I'm saying I love you Y/n, probably more than I should."
"Are you ever gonna talk to him again?" Yubin, your roommate asked as you walked alongside her to the cafeteria.
It's been a total of four days since Jungkook drunkenly confessed to you, and you were dealing with it in a terrible way. You had no idea how to bring it up to him, so you decided ignoring him was the best possible answer.
"I don't know." You wanted to. You wanted to talk to him, to see him again, but you were worried. Even if he didn't remember what he said, you did. What if he didn't even mean if in the first place? He could've been too drunk to understand what he was saying. "Everything's confusing."
"Well, you better figure it out, and fast." Yubin pointed behind you, and you turned around to find Jungkook walking towards you with a frown on his lips. "Good luck."
You turned back to Yubin in just enough time to see here step away to give the two of you the privacy you needed. "Seriously?"
Jungkook stepped up to you, giving you a pointed glare. " L/N F/N, why are you ignoring me?"
"For the past four day you've been ignoring my calls and my texts." He told you. He knew you knew what he was talking about, and there was no getting out of it. "At first I thought you just needed space for a couple of days, but you always text me to let me know you're okay. Four days, and no text. So, what's going on with you?"
"I'll forgive you when you explain why."
You sighed. There was no way you were getting out of this one until you explained your reasons. "The other night when I took you home from the party, you said some things..."
And so, you told him everything he had said to you. He watched you as you watched the ground, fiddling with your fingers as you spoke. You didn't dare look him the eyes. You didn't want to see the way he was looking at you.
"I wanted to talk to you, I did, but I didn't know how." You explained. "I didn't want to bring it up in case you had forgotten about it, and I thought if I gave it a couple of days then I would forget too."
The silence between the two of was unnerving. "I didn't forget."
Your eyes snapped up to finally look at him. Your eyes met, and he reached forward to cup your cheek with his hand. "What?"
"I remember what I said, and Y/n, I meant every single word of it."
You went speechless as he smiled down at you. You couldn't find anything to say, and it didn't look like he minded it too much.
"Y/n, I've loved you since we were eighteen." He told you, rubbing his thumb along his cheek. "I never wanted to say anything in case you didn't feel the same way, but I guess the alcohol brought out the confidence. I'm sorry for confusing you, and if you want to forget all of this happened, then we can."
You stared at the man in front of you in such amazement. He was willing to put his own feelings to the side for you, even though you felt the same. You couldn't hold the smile off anymore.
"I don't want to." You said, reaching your hand up to touch his hand on your face. You smiled up at him with such love, it made his heart melt. "I'd never want to forget something like that."
Jungkook pulled you in closer, sealing your lips together in a sweet kiss. You wrapped your arms around his neck as his moved to your waist. You sighed into the kiss, the happiest you had been in a while.
You pulled away from the kiss, the smile never once leaving your lips. He was the same, his eyes matching his smile as he looked at you in such an adoring way.
“While you’re here, I have the cutest picture I took of you the other night.”
This hasn't been proofread and edited yet, but I'm too excited to do all that. I hope you enjoy this series as much I enjoyed putting it together. <3
