What do you think about Jack Lowden (Collins in Dunkirk) as a potential Wimsey headcanon? His extreme blondness and sharpish nose are preying on my mind. He's still a baby, but about the right age for Major Wimsey still in uniform and I am having... emotions.
MAJOR WIMSEY. OLD WINDERPANE. The concept of a pre-war/mid-war Peter alone gives me the vapours tbh. Bright-eyed, all innocence and idealism. And then buried in a hole in the ground.

I like your thinking, but the main mark against the esteemed Mr Lowden is that he is inescapably pretty. He’s just ..a pretty fellow, quite pretty he is.They’d have to work hard at bringing that ‘800 years of weak, chinless, toffy english genetics’ out with some very dorky hair indeed. He is, however, an appropriate cornsilk blond if needed, and there’s a sharpness to his face that could work. What he DOES have going for him is the way he reaches up out of the choppy English Channel in Dunkirk after ditching his Supermarine Spitfire (and nearly drowning): with a cheery ‘Morning!’ as he’s approached by a boat, like it’s a nice Sunday on the river. That is, if you’ll pardon the expression, Wimsey as fuck.

junomarlowe: Aha, thank you so much for this! He is extremely pretty, you're right. THAT MOMENT after nearly fucking drowning is exactly what I was thinking of too, I almost mentioned it. It reminded me of his lordship punning about the quicksand from which he's been narrowly rescued, and then passing out (in Bunter's arms? probably)

5. What genre did you read the most of?
Fantasy! I burned through all of The Dresden Files this year and kept up with/finished a few fantasy series, so that won out. Second most read is probably nonfiction (history) because that’s the job, although I only counted books I read cover to cover there and didn’t include academic books in my reading goal.
7. What was your average Goodreads rating? Does it seem accurate?
My average rating is 3.6, which is pretty low! But I only rated four books out of 44 read (so far), and one of those was a 1/5. My rating scale is pretty inconsistent and I tend not to rate academic books, so I just...didn’t rate very many books this year. I guess 3.6 is accurate, since I read a fair number of books I thought were just okay and a handful of outstanding books.
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
Vita Nostra and The 7 and 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle were both memorable and excellent reads!
24. Did you DNF anything? Why?
Yes! And then promptly deleted them from my Goodreads, because life is too short for terrible books. There were also a few that I had to return to the library before I finished them; Foundryside is one of that number.
