Not to be dramatic... but you were convinced that Kim Junseo was the most perfect guy ever, and you developed a big fat crush on him the moment you met him.
➳ Characters: brainy!Junseo x athlete!female reader/you
➳ Genre: university au, fluff, romance, opposites attract
➳ Words: 4.5k
➳ Warning: mentions of food, drinks, injury, period and period blood, reader overthinks a lot
➳ A/N: This story was very much inspired by 'not to be dramatic' by Zoe Clark.
The first thing that popped into your mind when you saw him walking into the gym hall was that he was so damn pretty.
Which, considering the fact that he was supporting Jihye who was using crutches after her injury, was probably not what you should have thought about, but you just couldn’t help it. He looked like he had just stepped out of a manhwa with his proportions and that face that ancient painters would have made multiple portraits about. He was tall with broad shoulders but his features were soft, his eyes shining gently when he looked at Jihye and he was ready to help her with anything when she got to the bench and was ready to sit down.
Alarmed, it crossed your mind that he might have been her boyfriend (even if you didn’t know whether she had one), and you were horrified that you ever dared to have such thoughts about someone else’s boyfriend.
Then, Jihye dissolved your worry when she introduced the boy to you all.
“Girls, this is my twin brother, Junseo. Junseo, these are the girls on the dance team.”
Oh… so he was her twin brother. The Junseo you had barely heard about and had never even seen at parties because he was the smart one out of the two of them while Jihye was the athletic one. Though seeing the boy’s muscles, you were sure that he was hitting the gym pretty frequently between study sessions because damn…
Junseo caught your eyes in that moment, and you felt like you got caught red-handed even though you knew very well that he couldn’t have read your mind.
Still, you averted your eyes, ashamed of staring at him and his muscles so much.
Get it together, girl!
“Let me know when you finish with practice and I’ll come back,” Junseo turned to his sister after his introduction, and the girl nodded at his words. He seemed gentle and considerate, no hint of malice in his voice and it shocked you because you weren’t even this close to your sibling and you had a sister, not a brother. Your sister was such a drama queen though, but at least dance practices kept you occupied enough to not have to spend too much time with her.
Just like that, he walked away without as much as looking back whereas your heart was going crazy at the brief interaction. Gosh, this was the first time a boy had such an effect on you, and it could only mean one thing: you had a big fat crush on Kim Junseo.
You were usually casual, flirty even, with guys. You weren’t afraid to initiate a conversation at a party, or test the waters because what was there to lose?
However, even just the idea of seeing Junseo again made you feel oddly nervous, and you weren’t sure how to function around him even though most of the time he merely helped Jihye into the gym hall and then picked her up in the parking lot because Jihye left with one of her best friends.
You and Jihye weren’t super close either way. You talked here and there, but when one was a part of a dance team, it was impossible to be best friends with everyone because there were just so many of you. Not to mention the fact that you weren’t on the same course in the same year with anyone from the team, so you didn’t see each other outside of dance practices, except for parties.
On the other hand, on this particular Friday, Junseo was sitting on the bench beside his sister during the last 10 minutes of practice, and you were uncharacteristically edgy. You didn’t have the best day to begin with, and seeing him there just made everything feel ten times more nerve-wrecking. It’s not like you had to prove anything to him, but you still wanted to leave a good impression. Deep down, you knew that it was silly, you were practically strangers, but you couldn’t help feeling this way.
So you were super focused on the choreography, afraid to mess anything up, but it also meant that your usual confidence didn’t shine through the steps. Which just made you feel worse, and you couldn’t help but finish practice with nothing but regrets. Gosh, you just wanted this day to end as soon as possible…
You walked up to the bench to grab your water bottle from your bag, only to realise that Junseo was sitting beside it. You glanced quickly in Jihye’s direction as if you should ask for her permission to talk to her brother, but she was talking to Ryujin, so she didn’t pay much attention to the boy who seemed quite awkward sitting by himself.
“Sorry. Would you mind…?” You asked as you pointed at your bag. He probably didn’t realise that he was literally sitting beside your half-open bag, your water bottle touching his thigh, because he turned on full on apologetic mode once he caught sight of it.
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” he replied, his eyes wide in shock, and he helped put your water bottle back into your bag before he handed it to you and let you take a seat, widening the distance between you two.
“It’s okay,” you just shook your head, trying with a friendly smile, but you weren’t sure that your smile was convincing because he furrowed his eyebrows and asked:
“Are you okay?”
This wasn’t the question that you wanted to hear from him, but you were sure that you didn’t look that appealing with a few locks stuck to your forehead and drops of sweat rolling down your back as you were speaking.
“Yeah, sure,” you blurted out feebly, and tried to take care of the locks sticking to your forehead, but you just felt more pathetic by doing so, so you felt like adding an explanation. “Just didn’t have the best day, that’s all. It was one of those days when nothing worked out, you know.”
Oh my god, why were you oversharing to your crush? This was the first proper conversation you two had, so why were you pouring your heart out to him? Not like you expected him to empathise with you or anything, but still…
Damn those beautiful eyes of his that looked like little galaxies, sucking you into their endless depth. His features literally softened when you admitted that you actually weren’t fine, but instead of feeling happy about it, you were nervous. What if he thought that you were a drama queen, and he would never want to speak to you again?
“I’m sorry to hear that,” he remarked gently, and despite being practically strangers, he said it so convincingly that you wouldn’t have thought that he just said it out of politeness. Or did you just want to believe in it? “It’ll get better, so hwaiting!” He cheered you on as he balled his hands into fists and lifted them up, smiling.
You blinked at him for a few seconds, totally frozen on the spot. Did Kim Junseo try to cheer you up? Were you not dreaming? What was going on?
You were so shocked by his antics that you couldn’t mutter a single word, and the boy might have misunderstood it because he let out a semi-awkward giggle before retreating his hands.
“Thanks. I appreciate it, I just… didn’t think that anyone would notice that I wasn’t doing fine, and that they would try to cheer me up,” you blurted it out in one go, afraid that he would misunderstand you.
Now it was your turn to let out an awkward giggle because what were you doing, trying to explain yourself like that?
You just looked at each other for a few seconds, both your and his cheeks red from embarrassment. Then, you finally remembered that you were there for your water bottle and took a few sips of it. Junseo looked away as if he was trying to give you space, and though you appreciated it, you were also awfully aware of the fact that he was still there.
Feeling like you just had to say something, you broke the silence by offering that any of you could help Jihye into the gym hall and walk her to the parking lot if it was of any assistance. The boy thanked you for the offer, but reasoned that he was on campus either way, studying in the library, so it was no bother.
“What’s your major?” You inquired because you didn’t remember Jihye mentioning what he was actually studying, just that he was super good at it.
“Sociology. Yours?”
“Business management.”
You couldn’t have been more different, it seemed, and yet… the fact that he was studying sociology and with the way he was so perceptive, you weren’t exactly taken aback. Yet, that just made him more attractive in your eyes, and you weren’t sure you could fall for him further, but here you were…
Thankfully, you were saved by Jihye patting him on the shoulder to gain his attention, and as they started conversing, you slowly packed up and left the gym hall, your face scarlet red not just because of the dance practice, but also because of the interaction you had with him.
Junseo was the last person you would have expected to see at Beomgyu’s party. According to Jihye, the boy spent most of his time studying at home, studying in the library or studying at a café.
As usual, you attended the party with the girls from the dance team, and since Jihye didn’t come because of her injury (and because she didn’t want to maneuver around people with her crutches in a crowded place), it didn’t even cross your mind that Junseo, out of all people, would come.
However, there he was in the corner of the kitchen, talking to a boy who was even taller than he was, and once you noticed him, you couldn’t tear your gaze away. It looked like he was trying to give a pep talk to the other guy who looked quite fidgety, and you swore that he ran his hands through his hair like every five seconds. Junseo then patted him on the back and gently shoved him, prompting him to move.
Your eyes followed the person the guy walked towards which just so happened to be a girl you actually knew. Byeol from the Leadership and Management course was kind of well-known in the business department because she had made history for being the only first-year female student who had created a club, a debate club on top of that. You had shared a class with her last year, and though she seemed really cool and determined, sometimes she seemed pretty intimidating, too. No wonder the tall guy was nervous to approach her.
As you averted your eyes back to Junseo, you caught him already staring at you. You had no idea what to do with yourself, so you ended up giving him a little wave with your hand which just made you feel even worse.
For gods’ sake, what were you doing?
“I’ll be right back,” you turned towards Chaeryeong and Remi who were deep in conversation about the latest Kdrama they were watching, so they (thankfully) didn’t notice your awkward little wave.
Then, you made your way towards Junseo who still stood there by himself in the corner, seemingly not knowing what to do with himself. Though from your point of view, he just looked extra precious looking like a lost puppy.
“Hey!”
“Hi!”
“I didn’t expect to see you here,” you noted with a smile, trying to speak over the loud music that was blasting from at least three different speakers on this level.
Junseo scratched the back of his neck sheepishly, and god damnit, you felt like your insides were melting. How could anyone look this pretty and handsome, and be so gentle and attentive as he was? Not to be dramatic, but he was literally like an angel, you could almost see the halo around his head.
“Oh yeah. I just accompanied Hyunsuk because he didn’t want to come alone, but we came because he wanted to talk to Byeol. Byeol is the-”
“Head of the debate club,” you finished his sentence, and he nodded with a smile in return. “Yep, I know. We had a class together last year.”
“Oh right. You’re both business students,” he connected the dots with an airy laugh.
You ended up telling him that you also felt like Byeol was a bit intimidating but she was also pretty nice once you got to know her. It turned out that Hyunsuk actually joined the debate club because of her (because he had a crush on her), but he felt like things had not turned out the way he wanted it to between the two of them, so he was trying to make a move.
It was kind of cute of Junseo to accompany his friend to a party to help him out, but of course, you didn’t phrase yourself like that. Instead, you said that it was nice of him to do so.
After a while, when you got tired of shouting over the music, you decided on continuing the conversation outside on the patio where only Heeseung and Sungchan from the basketball team were around. Junseo (as the gentleman he was) held the door for you and let you go first, so you decided on the opposite corner of the patio where the two athletes were. Not that you were afraid that they would gossip about you and Junseo because they were pretty introverted, but still… You didn’t want them to hear any of your nervous rambling or anything of the sort.
“Y/N…” Junseo called out your name so gently that you felt like you were the main character in a movie and you were about to hear his confession when you knew very well that would not happen. Still, when you turned towards him. your heart was beating against your ribcage so wildly that you thought that it would malfunction in the next second.
What followed was the furthest thing from a confession though…
“Don’t be scared, but…” He started quietly, and despite the fact that he told you not to be scared, your heart was beating erratically for a different reason now. “You have a red stain on the back of your dress. I’m guessing it’s your… you know,” Junseo continued, and though his face was as understanding as ever, you wanted the ground to swallow you up whole instead of seeing his big doe eyes and bittersweet smile as he was telling you that you had most probably leaked through your pad.
Great.
Absolutely fantastic.
You had never ever been happier before.
“Oh my gosh, no…” You whimpered frantically, mentally calculating with every possible way to just evaporate right then and there. You closed your eyes for a few seconds, too embarrassed to face anyone, much less the boy you were having a big fat crush on. This couldn’t be happening right when you were about to have a lovely conversation with him on this lovely patio under the dim lights.
The thought that others might have seen it too (or worse: will continue to see it) made you open your eyes instantly, but then again, you wore a light dress with nothing to cover up your bum because it was late April and there was no need for extra layers.
“Here…” Junseo’s voice brought you back to reality, and as if he read your mind, he shrugged off his flannel shirt, revealing a simple white tee underneath, and held the shirt out for you.
You blinked down at the piece of clothing, feeling like you could burst into tears any moment because bless him and his caring soul for being so willing to help you out even though most boys would probably freak out over seeing period blood on a girl’s dress. Then again, he had a twin sister, so he was probably used to the period talk at home.
“You sure?”
“Yes, absolutely,” he nodded fervently, and there was a smile in the corner of his lips when he added. “Hey, it’s okay. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about.”
Why did Kim Junseo have to be the best boy on Earth?
“Thank you so so much. This is literally a lifesaver!” You exclaimed gratefully as he handed over his shirt and you used it to cover up your embarrassing little spot. Or maybe it wasn’t even little, it crossed your mind, but you hoped that it wasn’t too bad. You had to get home somehow because you were 100% sure that you wouldn’t stay any longer after such an accident even though you wanted nothing more than to talk with Junseo.
“You girls deal with the tough stuff, I’m just glad if I could help out at times like this,” he shrugged casually as if he did this every single day, and you swore you could kiss him right and there. If you weren’t so horrified about the actual circumstances of your conversation, that is…
“Thank you, really. I’ll give it back to you as soon as I can, but I think it might be best if I went home now,” you announced, awkwardly gesturing towards your back body even though you knew that he would get what you meant.
You were about to bid your goodbye when he asked:
“Do you want me to give you a ride? I’ve parked just right around the corner.”
Oh. My. Gosh. This guy just couldn’t get any more perfect. After handling the situation so well, he was willing to give you a lift? Seriously, what did you do in your past life to deserve him?
“Are you sure? Don’t you need to wait for Hyunsuk?”
“I think he’ll be fine,” he replied, boasting a boyish smile. Under different circumstances, that smile would have made you feel all giddy and warm, but this time, it just reminded you of another thing you would miss out on because you had to cut the night short due to your messy period.
After making sure that it was 100% okay with Junseo to give you a ride back home, you followed him to his car and got in (he held the door for you, of course). You were usually fidgety when you were nervous, but you were so aware of wearing his flannel shirt in his own car’s seat on your period that you dared not to move at all. Why did today have to be the day your emergency pad wasn’t enough because you bled through it, so now you had to leave the party that just got interesting because Junseo was there?
At least, Junseo still didn’t seem weirded out by the whole situation. In fact, he started talking about how he had saved up for this car and when he had learned how to drive, and soon enough, your nerves settled, and you were ready to engage in the conversation instead of worrying about your stain.
Yet again, you realised just how sweet and precious Junseo was, and even though you had met him because of Jihye, you hadn’t talked about her up until this point when Junseo remarked that he had gotten his driving license just in time to help Jihye out. Instead of admitting if it had inconvenienced him to drive her everywhere, he remarked how devastated Jihye had been when she had learned that it would take her 2-3 months to recover and even more to regain her full strength and mobility to go back to dancing like before. That’s why she insisted on attending dance practices, so that she wouldn’t miss out on the routines during her recovery. He talked about his sister in such a caring way, you were sure that he was a great brother even though he spent a lot of time studying.
Time flew by in his company, and by the time he dropped you off in front of your house, you almost forgot about the whole fiasco with your dress. Almost.
“Can we exchange numbers? So that I could let you know when I can give your shirt back. Washed and dried, of course,” you promised earnestly, actually not making an excuse to get his number, but you could get it either way which was just crazy.
The boy didn’t even protest, so you exchanged contacts, and after thanking him a couple more times, you wished each other good night. Despite the fact that you could have imagined walking back to your front door with his shirt on, with his number in your phone after being dropped off by him under very different circumstances, he managed to turn this night around, and you would forever be grateful for him for that.
After you gave Junseo’s shirt back as promised, you weren’t sure when you would see him again because technically, it wasn’t guaranteed that you would be in the same place again.
However, he continued to drop by occasionally to see the last few minutes of the dance practices before picking up his sister, and you even managed to bump into him in the library a few times as exam season rolled by. He was always eager to hear about your days, and after a while, you developed the habit of getting late night snacks from the 24/7 convenience store on campus together when you needed a bit of a pick-me-up during study sessions. Nothing was planned, nothing was re-arranged, but you couldn’t deny that you were spending way more time studying on campus this semester than you ever did before.
If anything, your feelings for him just grew stronger and stronger as days went by, but how could you have not fallen for him when he was such a green flag? He was kind, caring, perceptive, and he had that adorable shy laugh that you wished to remember forever, tucked into your memory as one of your favourite sounds.
He was also very pretty, like a real-life prince, and you had to force yourself not to stare at him too much when the sun was shining on his features while studying or the way his muscles were on display while he was driving. He insisted on driving you back when you finished studying late at night, and you just couldn’t say no to him.
However, when you submitted your last assignment for the semester, you knew that it also meant that you wouldn’t need to come to campus every day because of summer break, only for dance practices. You kind of dreaded this day because it would mean not having your study sessions together with Junseo, something that you had grown fond of over the last few weeks. Not to mention the fact that Jihye could now walk without crutches, so she didn’t need her brother’s assistance.
That night, when you packed up your stuff and headed outside of the library together, you were uncharacteristically quiet. You submitted your assignment around 6pm, so it wasn’t even dark, but you stalled in front of the building, not knowing whether he would offer to drive you back or not, and you were too embarrassed to bring up the question.
Instead, you found yourself asking:
“Do you want to grab dinner together? You know, to celebrate my last assignment for the semester,” you suggested casually, and the smile he gave you in return turned your legs into jelly.
“Sure. What do you have in mind?”
Truthfully, you had nothing in mind, you just wanted to spend more time with him, but you suggested a place anyway. While waiting for your orders, you inquired if Junseo had any plans for summer, and he said that he had a summer class that would involve working on a research project. The project would also help him prepare for his final thesis next year, so he didn’t mind spending more time doing it. When he asked about your side, you shared that you had a dance bootcamp lined up and a competition later on, so you were preparing for that.
Your answers made it very clear that you would not see each other during summer, but you tried not to show that you were affected by it. However, that also meant that you were rambling on and on, afraid to put an end to this conversation, to say goodbye to him for the next few weeks. You knew very well that you were being dramatic, but you just couldn’t help it.
After dinner, Junseo offered to give you a ride back home, but the closer you got, the more disheartened you were. When he stopped in front of your house, you looked ahead of yourself for a few seconds before turning towards him.
“I guess it’s time to say goodbye then. Good luck for your summer class, Junseo!”
You put on a friendly, cheery smile when inside you felt like crawling a hole for yourself and not getting out of it until the first week of the next semester rolled by.
Junseo looked at you, perplexed, as if you said something confusing.
“W-wait, you don’t want to see me during summer?”
Now it was your turn to be confused. What was he talking about?
“What do you mean?” You asked, furrowing your eyebrows in question. Of course you wanted to see him, but you weren’t going to. Right?
“Just because Jihye doesn’t use her crutches anymore, I can still come by your dance practices. I’ll be on campus either way,” he broke it down to you, and you felt like facepalming yourself because why had you not thought about it before? “But if you’re uncomfortable with me there, I don’t-”
“No! I would love for you to come. Anytime, really. Please, come by!” You cut him off instantly.
Junseo gave you a coy little giggle hearing your eager words, but the damage had already been done, so you had to bear the consequences of your actions. He still had the chance to back away if he found your antics annoying or awkward or-
“Besides, I would love to take you out on a date someday if you wouldn’t mind.”
Wait, what?
You almost got whiplash when you decided to turn towards him in a swift motion because you weren’t sure that you had heard it right. Did Kim Junseo just ask you out? Did your crush just ask you out? Oh my gosh, it was really happening. You weren’t dreaming!
“No! I wouldn’t mind. Not at all. I would love to. I would be more than happy, actually,” you blurted out in one go, and you saw the boy’s shoulders drop in relief.
Now it was your turn to let out a chuckle because gosh… you were majorly overreacting, weren’t you?
He didn’t seem to mind though, so that was good.
You were all good.
It would be just fine.
More than fine, actually.

pt.1 section two
JUNSEO stayed at all the edges of your mind and heart despite a week passing, after the day you walked away from him. You knew this would happen. But you weren’t the only one who was going to make efforts for a relationship that he didn’t really want.
Or that’s what you thought.
A knock on your door interrupts your trailing thoughts which appeared between sips of a coffee that had already run cold, heat passing to your palms and making them warm. A sigh leaves your lips at the force of getting up from your comfortable position.
Opening the door was dreadful enough and behind the door stood someone you didn’t expect to see at all. And the worse followed as he hugged you tight, almost smashing his body into yours desperately. His hold was firm, but longing effused from it. It was almost like he was holding onto you and was scared of letting you go, again.
This wasn’t what you were expecting at all. You pushed him away with your palm against his rigid upper body but he refused to let go.
“Junse-”
“Please. Can we please stay like this for a minute?” his voice was coarse, a lot like how it’d sound after crying endlessly. You could feel his neck pressed against you and you could also feel the gulp in his throat, possibly a lump filled with guilt. Minutes passed and you found yourself unconsciously melting into his warmth that you oh so dearly missed.
Getting yourself together at once, you pulled away from the hug, your throat thickening with mere passing seconds. Junseo looked like he would cry from even the slightest waver and something inside you twisted at such a sight.
Wiping down his face with his palms, followed by a sniffle, he speaks.
“y/n I am truly sorry.” you could hear his words getting stuck in his throat, guilt dripping from all of his being.
“I am sorry for taking you for granted and for dismissing all the efforts you put into saving our relationship that was at the brink of collapse. I am sorry for not recognising and acknowledging sooner. I am sorry for not cherishing you, y/n, like you deserve to be.”
Tears prickle out of his already swollen eyes. He brings his hands to hold yours between his palms, looking up at you.
Him getting hurt would kill you inside within seconds but seeing him broken like this, right in front of you, merely inches away from your entrance door, made you oscillate between forgiving him or choosing yourself, considering everything that had happened.
“I know I have been the worst boyfriend ever but,” he pauses to catch his breath, wailing silently. “But I really need you, y/n. I love you so much. I have only realised this after letting the worst down on both of us but I need you to trust me, which of course will be difficult. But I need you to trust me that I will be better from now on.”
His eyes meet yours. You could feel the pain, guilt and desperation exuding from his gaze. His broken heart reflected in his eyes and you knew him too well to understand that he was being genuine. And that was your breaking point.
A shaky breath left your lips, eyes stinging as tears threatened to spill out of your eyes. You step forward and wrap your arms around his shoulders, allowing yourself to give into him entirely. His face stays buried in your neck for a few minutes, his chest heaving against yours.
Your hands reach to pat his head with reassurance as you speak into his sweatshirt.
“I will come back to you junseo. I love you so much, too much. But you must promise me to never let such things happen.” He nods frantically. “You not giving me importance, despite me understanding your situations to the core and being very patient with you broke my heart once. I hope it doesn’t happen again.” He nods again, all while his tears wet the shoulder of your top, promising himself and you silently to never, ever let you go.
✴
JIAHAO spent days, weeks trying to contact you. Calling you over and over again, sending endless text messages. He even contacted your friends and yet there was no avail. His last straw was to show up at your front door and wait until you step out. And hence, he was at your door right now. He had no idea when you would step out, or if you would leave the house at all, but he was determined.
Your silence was making him go insane, and he didn’t even know the proper reason behind the distance that you’ve created. A part of him knew the reason, but he wished it wasn’t true because all you thought was false.
A click was heard and the huge teak door creaked open, revealing a slumped figure. Jiahao’s eyes opened wide in anticipation upon spotting you. You barely have time before registering his appearance at that moment, before he bombards you with all sorts of questions, slight spurts of frustration evident in his tone.
You let out a harsh sigh, crossing your arms against your chest. “Are you really asking me this question?” you say, your voice almost sounding venomous. Your gaze held borderline hatred.
“Oh my god.” he exclaims in disbelief. The reason had in fact turned out to be what he exactly suspected.
“You got it all wrong, y/n”, you scoff.
“What exactly do you take me for? I clearly heard the name rig–”
“It is not her!”, he almost yells out in frustration. The thought of you shutting him down because of a mere misunderstanding which could’ve been solved if you had just chosen to ask him instead of assuming, vexed him.
“It is not the same jiah. It is some other woman who I have no sort of relation to at all. I literally even looked for another place to move in with you. What the heck were you thinking acting up just based on your assumptions? You left me weeks without an explanation and there I was waiting and trying to reach you like a fool!”
His words started to settle in. Embarrassment washed over you first and the next wave that crashed was filled with guilt.
You open your mouth to say something, but your efforts go in vain.
He sighs exasperatedly, stepping forward towards you. His hand cradles your left cheek gently as his eyes meet yours.
“y/n–”
“I’m sorry.”, the apology that left your mouth was most sincere.
“I am so, so sorry hao. I assumed way too much and thought way too far.”, realization downed upon you as you collected words inside your head.
“It is completely my fault and I am okay with it, if you want to take time you don’t have to forgive me right away but I am extremely sorry for thinking way off the margin–” you ramble, voice trembling.
“Do you not trust me to that extent, yn?” he asked, eyes looking into yours hoping to find at least a hint of faith that you had in him.
You could hear your heart break into a million pieces, which felt quite ironic. You acting upon your insecurities resulted in consequences that made him, made the love of your life feel that he was not trustworthy enough. And it broke you. Tears started to gather at the brim of your eyes as you took gentle, unsteady breaths.
Him being in a rather close proximity to you didn’t help it. You could see the heartache in his eyes, caused by you.
“Hao, I am so so sorry that I made you feel that way.” you gently cup his face. “It was never my intention. In fact, it is all my fault. Jiah made me insecure, quite a lot of times. Even though I didn't know her, the stories you told me of her— not that you shouldn’t, or the things that your friends told me about her. Good memories or not, she was a huge part of your life and I was never sure if I could ever be the same to you.”
Hearing this made him feel bad. Words were beyond help at this point, so he gently brought you into an embrace which conveyed all his emotions as intensely as words could. You could feel his guilt, his relief, his apology all at once.
“I love you, yn, and nobody can ever take your place. And to assure you, no other person has ever made me feel like you do, and I would not trade that for anything else in this world.”
✴
LEO had asked you to meet up, after a few days of the breakup. To be honest with yourself, you haven’t even processed the split up properly. You were still in denial and heartbreak, but in silence. You kept everything to yourself and it almost felt like slow poison.
Even though you never expected he would come back for whatever reason, yet you were here, sitting across from him at a table, in a cafe on a Sunday afternoon.
The coffee that you both had already ordered long ago had gone cold, just deprived of a few sips. The awkward atmosphere made the slow poison in you work rather fast. You hated to sit there and feel the emotional dilemma by yourself when he was the one making decisions in haste.
Just as if he had read your thoughts, Leo cleared his throat as he began to speak.
“I'm sorry.” Of course he would say that, you thought to yourself.
You could see him struggling to gather his words, you could see the way his mind went haywire behind his eyes, and after what felt like a billion speedran seconds, he spoke up.
“I just do not know love, yn. I have never been in love until you. I don’t know how love feels or evolves, or how it feels to be with someone you love. Longer than you expected, that too.” Now the confusion started getting worse inside your head.
“Being with you… I was at my happiest. And overtime, it started feeling less new, less exciting. And I thought that it was over. I thought that I didn't feel the same towards you anymore. Days got normal, less thrilling and everything was going at a neutral pace.”
Honestly, you didn’t have even a slight clue of what the hell he was going on about. You just looked at him like looking at a thousand piece puzzle, and trying to piece it together. He continued to speak.
“But then, after I left. I started missing you and everything felt empty. All my days were filled with you. Texting you good morning as soon as I wake up, sending you a picture of what I had for breakfast, taking a break during lunch to fill you in on the events of my day — all of these. You were my life, yn. You became my routine. Just so rooted into my daily life that it has become so normal.”
Breath started coming back to you as you slowly understood what he meant. A swirl of emotions filled your chest and mind.
“I mistook that routine, that familiarity as falling out of love and I made a grave mistake of breaking up with you.”
As much as you hated coffee that had cooled down, you sipped your drink in hopes of washing down the lump that had started forming in your throat as he spoke.
“Yn can you… will you forgive me, please?” he looks up at you properly this time. His eyes held a hint of desperation and his face was weary from how exhausted he was.
“I realized that I cannot do life without you. I need you back with me, by my side. I will make sure to treat you the best I ever have and I promise to not act on my own. Take me back, yn.” his voice started getting tense as a response to your silence.
Watching him spill all his thoughts and watching him lay all his emotions out, right in front of you made you realise that he was not the same person that he was before. Leo previously would never have done this. And this gave you hope that things would change, and you would gladly take him back.
“I will.” you said as you let out a shaky breath. All the pent up emotions, the dilemma, the thoughts— everything disappeared for a while and all you wanted now, was to be in his arms. As if telepathically connected, Leo gets up from his chair, walks around yours and his arms engulf your shoulder from behind, a small kiss landing on the top of your head. ‘I love you’s pepper around your head as he stays that way for a minute or so, completely and utterly falling into your existence, all over again.
✴
GEONWOO kept hovering around whichever classroom you entered for your classes. He seated himself two tables away from you during lunch in the cafeteria. Wherever you go, he was always in sight and it bothered you more than it should.
He was the one who got annoyed by your behaviour, which he was previously well aware of, and at one point was smitten by it. He loved it when you acted clingy towards him.
Personally, you hated that frat of his. Guys from their group always fucked around and you believed geonwoo was different but it hurt you a lot to see that he was indeed, the same as them all. A tiny part of you still thought something was wrong, as it felt quite unusual that everything you both had ended so abruptly.
Just as you sat down in your seat for the next class, you overheard sangwon— your classmate who also happened to be Geonwoo's friend, speak to one of his other friends.
"I am literally tired of Geonwoo acting like he's fine. All he does is follow that girl, talk about her and what not."
"Literally. It's obvious that he misses her and I hope he just comes to terms with it." The other friend responded.
The rest of their conversation faded into the bustling noise of the classroom while you spiralled into your thoughts.
As soon as your class ended, you decided to find Geonwoo and speak to him. As much as you hated to confront him yourself first, you hated the unresolved situation even more.
And so you found yourself in one of the empty conference rooms, somehow managing to find and drag him with you. You shut the door behind you and turned around to look at him.
You spoke up, not giving him a chance to say anything first.
"What the fuck is going on with you?"
"What do you mean? Do you not understand when I said that I hate when you're cling-"
"Geonwoo I accidentally happened to overhear your friends talking about how you keep mentioning me." You state as a matter of fact, letting him know that there is barely anything to hide anymore.
"I know you miss me."
His eyes catch the floor and he does not respond. His fingers fidget with the hem of his shirt, his other hand gripping the strap of his bag a little tighter as every minute passes by.
you sigh harshly.
"I said those things to you on purpose, yn." He says, his voice sounding what felt like remorse.
"You are too good for me. yn, I am literally nothing. All I do is go to the frat house, drink and party. I am always doing things that are upto no good and you... you are capable, intelligent and such a good human in general. I don't know if I can ever meet your expectations. I am incapable and I can never be a good match for you."
Anger over everything else started building up inside you. You absolutely hated how he treated you like garbage, just by his assumptions and no communication at all. Your eyebrows furrowed as your face turned into an obvious facade that shielded all the annoyance in you.
"Do you know how immature that sounds? Geonwoo, did I ever ask you to be a certain way for me? Did I even ever mention my so-called expectations that you think I have from you?" you speak, anger now subsided into disappointment. Your voice threatens to break and it gets difficult for you to hold it in for longer.
"All I did was love you for who you are and I am very disappointed in you. that you took decisions by yourself without even sharing your thoughts with me. Talking things out Geonwoo...that's... that's basic, isn't it?" You sighed, running your fingers through your hair. Endless thoughts and questions clouded your head and you chose to ask the one that picked at you the most.
"Do you genuinely want me to leave?" Your voice betrays you as it comes out cracked. Your chest feels tight and your eyes start stinging, tears gently getting collected at the edges of your eyes.
He looks up at you at those words. You can see the clear glint of hurt in his chest resulting in a frown taking shape through his eyebrows. His eyes show pain like you've never seen before.
"No.." He replies, unsure if he even had the right to imply with his words that he wanted you back, after all he has done.
You soften at his response. After all, you loved him so very much and as the fact that he was seeing himself as an incompetent boyfriend settled down right in your head, your heart melted within seconds.
Wiping down the sweat of your palms onto your jeans, you step forwards and bring him into your embrace as delicately as handling a flower with the softest petals.
He needed reassurance and he didn't know how to ask for it. And so you held him for a few seconds before pulling away, holding his face between your palms.
"You are enough for me. I love you for you and I have never wished for better." You say with a small smile, all the adoration you had for him swelling up in your chest.
"You never have to think that you are good for nothing. I do not love you for outcomes, I want to be with you because you are kind to me, you love me genuinely. You care for me and I do the same. It's insane to think of loving someone based on their merits, Geonwoo."
You could see his eyes glistening, his nose dusting pink and he struggles to speak. He hugs you, his arms wrapping around your frame with little to no strength as his face fits into the curve of your neck.
"I love you, yn."
That's all you needed to hear from him, all the other emotions he wanted to convey getting to you instantly like you were inside his heart. Patting the back of his head gently, you hugged him back tighter, letting him know that you weren't going anywhere and you were with him to stay.
Hi, dear! 🪻 SOOO THIS IS SO CUTE! As someone who literally adores children (in the non-creepy 'oh my god they're so cute I want to squeeze their cheeks, protect them and adopt them' way) I love this request!

Kim Junseo♡girl dad
I mean, HAVE WE SEEN THIS MAN! He gives 100% girl dad, the type that would let his baby style his hair with pink and purple bows and draw on his face with makeup.
He would be such a gentle dad, melting with his half-moon eye-smile at every single thing she does. To him, she can do no wrong, and everything she does is cute and applause worthy. Even when she grows up to be a teen and an adult, she'll always be his baby daughter in his eyes.
He gets a little over-protective over her. Every single boyfriend (or girlfriend) she gets "rub him the wrong way" for some reason (a.k.a. he doesn't want his girl getting played or hurt by anyone), but he'll eventually warm up to her partners (the good ones, at least). Does not tolerate anyone making fun of her, not even if it's supposed to be a joke, and would side-eye the hell out of them. However, as she gets older, he realizes his girl is strong and he'd start rather not interfering unless she asked him to, so he doesn't hinder her independence.
In daily life, when his daughter is a kid, he would enforce rules well, like bedtime, screentime, minimum amount of food she should eat each meal... He would be very proactive and would take a big part in her routine, letting his partner take the role of the fun parent.
However, as she grows, he becomes less and less interfering - he knows she can manage. If she needs his help, he's always there to gladly do so, but if she's chill, he'd let her be.
Zhang Jiahao♡both
I see him having his mini-me talkative version and being the proudest dad ever. He doesn't speak much, but he loves to listen: they'd have a dad who pays attention to their every word with great interest and reacts well, with "Really?"s "Tell me more"s along with his many facial expressions.
When he does talk, he'd always use his soft-spoken tone to talk to his children and say valuable words to them. He'd mostly reassure them how much he loves them through actions, though. He might be the kind of guy who listens for one hour and simply comments 'well, it is what it is', but his constant attention and presence are much more meaningful than 'I love you's could ever be.
He does the daily routine quietly, yet with a smile on his face. You'll catch him fondly staring at the kids playing or doing something random by themselves: he is so in love with them. They were his best creation, the cutest living beings in the world, and he'd go through hell for them if required.
I see him as a very helpful person: he'd always be willing to drive his kids back and forth to friend's houses, school, and parties when they get older, even waking up in the middle of the night to do so. He'd help them with their homework, run errands for them gladly, and he would be the kind of sweet dad that has his doors always open: he can listen to them talk about any kind of concern at any given hour, and even when they move out as adults, he'd always keep their room clear in case they wanted to come back for a sleepover or even permanently.
He'd be very boastful about his children (in an endearing way). He is not the type to announce or brag when he is good at something, but his kid will learn the most basic skill in the universe and he'll be telling everyone and their mother how his child is the absolute best. Would also be endlessly affectionate towards his partner: after all, they're the one making the most wonderful experience of his life possible, parenting.
Lee Leo♡boy dad
He would be a super cheerful, the kind that is always joking around with his child and carrying them around the house for funsies. Just the presence of his son would make him smile wide.
I see him as a dad who truly engages in playing with his kid: he'd play pretend, board games, have silly inside jokes...
He'd be teaching his kid how to play soccer, playing catch with them, lifting them and turning them upside down, carrying them on his back... He'd raise an energetic little gremlin!
He'd also frequently display love through physical touch: he'd hug and tickle his kid a lot, ruffle their hair... Especially on the toddler phase, he'd have to squish his baby's round cheeks and coo at how cute he is every five minutes or he'll die.
He'd be the type of dad that watches his kid with a proud smile. I see him raising an athletic son and Leo not missing a single game! He would get a little coach-y with him, though.
When his kid grows to be a teen, he'd be a very chill dad open to conversation without judging his son. This would make his child feel safe around him, knowing that he can tell his dad about anything.
During everyday life, he'd be all about having quality time his his son, but teaching him how to be independent. He believes that you should know how to take care of yourself, and he'd always make sure that his son felt confident on his own in case Leo wasn't there anymore someday.
If somebody messed with his son, though, he'd be very confrontational. That's when his 'you have to be autonomous' lectures go out of the window - he's extremely protective and would argue for his kid. He'd also get secretly jealous if his son loved one of his ALD1 uncles too much. He's HIS child, and HE'S supposed to be the coolest one in his eyes.
Kim Geonwoo♡both
I envision him as a person who wants only one child because he would want to cater all of his energy towards raising that one precious being he loves so dearly. That being said, I think he would have slightly different approaches towards having a boy or a girl.
If he had a boy, he'd absolutely want to make him his mini-me, and he'd want to teach him absolutely everything. I see him being BIG on teaching his son baseball and them enjoying playing and watching games together. It would be forever their joint hobby.
If he had a girl, he'd baby the crap out of her. She is daddy's little princess, and much like Junseo, he'd see his daughter as forever his baby (even into adulthood). He'd let her do everything she wanted to do to him and would completely bend his sense of traditional masculinity for her. She wants to play princess? A tutu he wears. She wants to draw pink hearts on his face? So be it! She wants to style his hair with hello kitty bows? Of course he'll let her.
With both genders, he'd be a dad who enforces everyday rules and organization very well (again, like Junseo). He'd also cook for them a lot, and I see him baking with his kid as a rainy afternoon fun activity. He'd also be the one to put them to sleep, reading his child a bedtime story every single day until they sleep, and quietly leaving the room after he turns off the lights and gives them a forehead kiss.
He is protective in general. He'd want to know exactly who his kid hangs out with, what type of content his kid watches on the internet... His biggest fear is that they're unnecessarily exposed to something that harms them. Because of that, he'd also install curfews for his kids when they're teens and have them text him every two hours or so when they're out, so he knows they're alive.
He'd be hella suspicious of his daughter's boyfriends (girlfriends, not so much) because he knows the world we live in... He would make sure to FBI-level questionnare her partners, which would make her want to crawl into a hole out of embarrassment, even though she knows he does it out of love.
wrote this bc i have been craving for some junseo softness and i think that it's a crime that there isn't more of it. also because i have that one moment of sleepy junseo with no shirt on seared into my brain, so that was the inspiration ig (also pls this is so self-indulgent)
i'd obviously recommend listening to Slush by DKB while reading this, as it is its namesake :3

Junseo knew it would have to be a day of hell for you. Not only did you have your job that you, of course, had to do, and do well, but you were also in the middle of moving out of your apartment and into a new place. He had tried to come over more to help you pack, and you were grateful for the times that he had helped you, but he had his own schedule that was tightly packed and unfortunately didn’t have the most time to help out, much to his dismay.
One day he had managed to carve out a whole evening for you. Giddy, he picked up the flowers and the takeout he had planned to bring with him, knowing that you didn’t leave yourself much time to eat and your meals had mostly been cups of ramen. He smiled down at the plastic bag hanging from where he held onto the handles; he could smell the amazing food as he walked to the apartment that was still yours for a few days. He was wearing his black bucket hat and a facemask, as DKB was finally garnering some attention after Peak Time was aired and he had experienced more frequent times of being stopped on the street for an autograph or a selca, and as much as he loved his fans’ support, that day he just wanted to go straight to his love to help out with something as mundane as packing things in boxes and eating good food out of containers.
When he got there, he knocked, as he usually did, but as you sometimes did, the knocks were ignored. He chuckled to himself, thinking that you were probably just zooming around with headphones on and couldn’t hear him; it wouldn’t have been the first time that would happen, so he did what he had permission to do; he went to your mailbox and searched for the little nook in it where you hid your keys. You had a bad habit of forgetting your housekeys either at Junseo’s dorm or in your personal desk at work, so you decided that it would be good to have a backup plan for when that would happen, which you had told Junseo to take advantage of whenever he wanted to, since you trusted him with your home, even if you weren’t there with him.
He snatched the keys from where you’d hung them inside the mailbox and unlocked your front door, opening it casually like he would usually, thinking you’d hear that and come running to the front door to see him. But not this time; this time the apartment was silent. Junseo’s brows furrowed, worry invading his thoughts. You should’ve been off of work by then and you had said you were way too busy packing to go out with your friends at the time being, so why was your home so quiet that he was feeling as if he was doing something disruptive just by rustling a plastic bag? He toed off his shoes quickly and moved in to put the food and flowers in the, mostly empty, kitchen, walking swiftly into the bigger space. He stopped in his tracks and felt a smile creep onto his face as he saw your form lying on your couch. Your hair was wild as if you had literally just thrown yourself onto the cushions, with no regard to your hair possibly falling onto your face, which he wouldn’t be surprised if that was how it went down.
He looked you over; you had your big dress shirt on, something he loved about your style. When you got the job as a middle school teacher, you wanted to portray yourself as more professional but didn’t want to lose your personal style in that, and so your brilliant idea was to bring some of your love for street style/casual wear, with the oversized tees and huge jeans, was to buy oversized dress shirts, something Junseo had quipped at, mentioning that they were probably his size. You also had your tight slacks on, which looked considerably less comfortable than the shirt. Analysing the place, he could see that you had already devoured the cup noodle you were relying on for sustenance, and so was probably not that hungry. He quickly went out to put the food he’d brought into the fridge, always available to heat up later, and fill a big cup you’d sometimes use as a vase with water and a little sugar and put the flowers in there too, to make them at least look just as fresh when you’d wake up.
After making sure that the front door was locked and all the unnecessary lights in the apartment were off, he scooped you up with ease and walked you to your bed, making sure to put you down on your mattress as gently as possible, as to not wake you up from your needed sleep. He undid and slipped off your slacks but kept the dress shirt on you so that you could be comfortable, but also while making a mental note to wear more dress shirts himself, liking the idea of you borrowing them to lounge around in like this. When he had tucked you in, he went out into the kitchen again. He had come over to help you pack, and he still felt too energised to knock out with you, so he ventured into your kitchen again. You had specifically asked him to help you with the kitchen wares, feeling much better about there being an extra person there to help you handle the fragile glass and such, so without making too much noise, he wrapped up your plates and glass and packed them neatly in the box you had set out for it. One thing less for you to worry about when you woke up the morning after.
After getting the kitchen stuff packed it was an hour later and Junseo could feel his day catch up to him, exhaustion settling into his body. Pulling off his shirt but keeping his sweatpants on, he slipped into the bed beside you, softly wrapping his arms around you, humming to himself as he could feel your familiar warmth against him. He had always thought that you were made for him; you fit perfectly into his arms, into his heart and into his life, and he wished that he had more time to spoil you like he wanted to, but instead, he got moments like these, and well, he could never complain about that. He soon fell asleep, always finding it easier to do so when he had you safe and sound in his arms.
You woke up first the next morning as you had been the one to pass out first, feeling warm and content. You opened your eyes slowly so as to not blind yourself from the light coming from the window but found something casting a shadow over you from said light. You knew exactly who it was, even if the logical part of your brain that said that he’s the only one who it could possibly be hadn’t even woken up, you were sure; that was your Junseo lying with you. You could tell especially from the form of his body’s silhouette and from the arms wrapped around you, and then you could smell the lingering of his cologne mixing with his natural Junseo-smell that you adored so much. You nuzzled your face further into his body, taking in the fact that he was there and seizing the opportunity to enjoy every single second of it. You took your chance to place a few kisses on his broad chest, being the place where you could reach while being in his arms, wrapping an arm around him as well, giggling a little when you could feel his arms tighten around you. You had had a few mornings like these in the time of dating him and you knew all the right buttons to press by now to get Junseo to wake up the gentlest (with some help from his group mates who learned the hard way). You let your fingers travel up and down the expanse of his back, your nails dragging lightly, and you began talking to him softly, only stopping to place another kiss on his warm skin.
“Good morning, my love. Thank you for coming over and for caring for me like this. You're really special; I have no idea how I got so lucky as to get to be with you.” You were about to go on, knowing that Junseo loved waking up to the sound of your voice speaking to him, but it seemed as if it had worked a lot quicker than you had anticipated this time; “I’m the lucky one here,” Junseo grumbled, his morning voice hoarse and, not that he’d ever agree that it was; cute. A smile spread on your lips, blinking up at him with all the love you could muster. “Agree to disagree.” You kissed his chest again and felt one of his hands come up to brush your hair out of your face, looking down at you with a sleepy smile. “When did you come over last night? I don’t remember letting you in.” You questioned and he groaned, digging for the memories in his still sleep-hazy mind. “I think it was around 7:30 or 8 pm? You were knocked out on the couch when I got here.” You took in the words said in his raspy voice. “Sorry about that, I don’t know what happened,” you said in a light-hearted tone. He smiled down at you and loosened his arms around you to stretch them and give you some of your space back. “What happened was that those kids you love teaching so dearly are energy vampires,” he whined and leaned down to nuzzle his face into the crook of your neck. You laughed at his words; “energy vampires?!” He nodded and you could feel him pout against your skin. “Yeah, and when I finally get to have you all to myself, you’re sucked energy-dry!” You laughed even harder and brought your arms up to hug his head even closer to your body. “Oh no, I am so sorry, honey! You know I’m a sucker for those small creatures,” your puns just made him groan even more and suddenly he was escaping from your embrace with you giggling and fighting to keep him hugged to your body. “No, let me go! You're awful for punning me when I've just woken up.” He finally broke free and swung his legs over the edge of the bed. You ended up hugging around his waist, smiling up at him as he looked down at you, your head peeking just around his body.
“You know I’m gonna hold on and be dragged after you if you try to walk away,” you had a certain tone when you told him so, making him think that you were absolutely not bluffing but also knew that he wouldn’t do that to you. What you didn’t know was that he had woken up with an abundance of energy, ready to deal with your silly attitude. With one swift motion, he somehow grabbed a hold under your arms and lifted you up while turning you in the air, placing you over his shoulder, all the while standing up from the bed, making you yelp out in surprise. You knew he was strong and that your weight was really not a big deal to him, but it still surprised you when he just did stuff like that. He walked and spun around with you on his back, mostly to hear your squeals and giggles, only to grab you and throw you onto the bed again, making sure not to throw you far enough so that your head would hit the headboard, throwing himself on top of you, snaking an arm around your body again, to hold you close, while using the other arm to hold himself up. As your giggles died down, the two of you just looked at one another, smiles growing softly on both sets of lips. Junseo leaned down slowly and tenderly placed his soft lips on yours, kissing you properly for the first time since he’d seen you this time. The kiss was delicate and infused with love and went on until the both of you were lightheaded, and by the time you’d separated, there were ten fingers in some hair, four cheeks red with heat and two foreheads touching each other.
The first one to utter any words was Junseo; “let’s just melt into the sheets together for a little bit more.” And you had no objections whatsoever.
A/N: i know that some details or behaviours of the reader were probably oddly specific but as i said before; this was incredibly self-indulgent. when i started writing this i was in the middle of moving out and was so stressed out so this was written with myself in mind a bunch. but i hope whoever reads this enjoys it also! (i am now putting the finishing touches on it in my new apartment on a makeshift bed on the floor so there you go lmao)
[12:03 PM] “Junseo- Junseo, I have to breathe.” You giggled in between the short pecks you were still receiving from your boyfriend. “I just can’t believe I get to kiss you ‘s all.” He muttered against your lips, finally ceasing his attacks in favor of giving you a gorgeous grin, a nice compliment to the pretty pink blush dusting his cheeks as he too caught his breath. You couldn’t help but catch his lips again, cuddling into his broad chest as warmth settled in your stomach.
