regarding the addition you made to the dinotopia post, was your mom in a creationist cult? Sorry if this ask makes you uncomfortable- I’m all about bringing dangerous and damaging cults to the spotlight but I totally understand if you don’t want to answer it. I definitely recommend checking out Telltale and Mr. Atheist on youtube- they mostly focus on Mormonism and Jehovah’s Witnesses, but they do expose other cults on their channels
Yes and no? It definitely featured creationism but it wasn't centered around that. If it centered around anything it was barely veiled white nationalism and the oppression of any uppity women/children/minorities who asked for like basic human treatment.
I'm actually familiar with both of those channels! Honestly though Aron Ra's series of educational videos about geology/evolution etc. is what helped the most. I knew I was in a Bad situation and knew at a certain point most of what I was told was incorrect, so I needed knowledge to correct it. Thanks for the recs though, honestly they might be very helpful for some of my followers.

Hey! I stumbled across your cult tag and couldn't believe how many parallels there were to my own fundamentalist Christian upbringing. My mother was schizophrenic so she bought into a lot of those crazy conspiracies, doomsday prophecies, the "aliens are demons" thing, etc. It was just us, though, not an entire community. For a few years she had me in the ACE curriculum, which was a total joke. Like you, I had to teach myself basic science, etc. It's infuriating now that I'm an adult.

Yeah, I mean, a lot of it would be similar because id bet anything they used the same sources. I know she even had a book about the demon aliens and there's a "documentary" too that we watched. Its wild what people will believe in order to affirm their core beliefs/identity.
