My Computer Lives!
My computer has a shiny new hard drive and is slowly getting back all my important programs, plugins, and samples, which means.............. GROOVE OF THE DAY WILL BE BACK SOON! I still need some time to get old stuff up on Youtube, make a new banner, figure out my living situation for the next year, and also probably clean my room, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut............. we close, y’allzzzz! Hey guys- I know that the end of Guest Month has kinda fallen apart, and I haven’t posted anything of my own in lord knows how long, but GotD will return! I’ve had some things in my personal life that have needed attention in a pretty time sensitive manner, and I thought it would be best to focus on them rather than shy away from things under the pretense of “oh, well I gotta make a Groove so I can’t confront this as a real human”. I know that excuses are lame, but this was a personal choice that I’m hoping will feel right in the long run. I guess what I’m saying (for those of you that follow this): 1. Sorry for the flakiness. 2. Groove of the Day will return soon! 3. There will be more Justice Eats Trees songs, despite the seemingly endless nature of Guest Month 2/Guestfinity (it’s been really amazing though- thank you and mad props to literally everyone who contributed!). 4. I’m hoping to finish up something I started last November before the end of summer which has a lot more going on, but I’m actually pretty proud of how this came out, considering it was written and recorded in 2 days. Day 485: Cat-Bird 18: Brined In Madness I........ am very hungry. But I have a meeting in 10 minz, so whatcha gon’ do. Anyways, this is the ACTUAL return of Cat-Bird (not the fart joke I made a month and a half ago), Groove of the Day’s most beloved series (citation needed). This one is a bit of wackiness I started a long time ago with lots of chromatic movement; I stumbled across it today, and decided it was time to finally finish it, which feels really nice actually. Day 478: Boyish Churnings Haha! I hate that name already! Here we go! So, I need to find a better way to get the sounds I want for the game I’m working on (which should be slightly cartoonish orchestral), so I downloaded a multi-sampler yesterday (Shortcircuit- it is freeeeeeeeeeeee!). I still haven’t really gotten the hang of it, but you can do some pretty wonkity things with its loop function, which make the very churny sound you hear at the beginning of this. The rest is samples and synths I use all the time, but I think that churny sound is really neat! Latezzzz! Justice McLateForWork
Day 460: Vertebrae (Cracked by Sound)- DRAFT 2 To hear the first draft, go here: http://grooveoftheday.tumblr.com/post/115931680140/day-459-vertebraces-cracked-by-sound-draft Robin sent me his first remix of the song we’re working on together a couple days ago, and I thought it would be cool for you guys to see what he did with it before I mangle it up yet again! He added a hiss that at first seemed overpowering, but now I think it fits nicely in the mix, and then mangled the piano and leaves with echo, reverse, and pitch-shifting to make something with much better textures than the original! There will be at least one more draft of this, where I add some skittering beats on top and maybe donk things up a bit more, so stay tuned! Day 459: vertebraces (cracked by sound) DRAFT Hello! This is a song (in it’s early stages) that I’m making collaboratively with First Defense (aka Robin Dreier). In the coming weeks, there will be at least two more variants of it as the song goes from Demo form to full fledged song! Stay tuned! For more First Defense: https://soundcloud.com/firstdefense I met Robin through the Glitch Artists Collective: Music Edition (GAC:ME with a Spoon) on Facebook, and he asked if I would be interested in working on something together. Having never worked on something with (back and forth style) someone who I cannot be in the same room with for discussion and such (he is in Germany), I agreed nervously. The first 7.5 seconds of this song is a little loop that he sent me, which I then looped and replayed at various speeds to get more complicated chords to happen. I threw some leaf noises on top, along with a sparkly loop of autotuned guitar plinging, and then added the piano melody and mangled it a bit. SOON: First Defense’s (First) Remix!!! Justice McYeah!
