In 2011, to promote The Smurfs movie, Sony temporarily painted the traditional “pueblo blanco” town of Juzcar, Spain, to a bright blue. Though it was meant to be a temporary publicity stunt, the change significantly boosted tourism in the area. Not far from Ronda is Smurfville (aka Juzcar). The location was used as the location for the debut of the film. Did you know that #Juzcar was one of the #WhiteTowns of #Andalusia? Everything changed in the #spring of 2011, when all the #buildings in town (even the church) were #paintedBlue to celebrate the premiere of #theSmurfs movie. In December 2011, #SonyPictures offered to repaint the town in white. Citizens voted to leave the #buildingspaintedblue, as the before unknown town, became famous and attracted 80,000 tourists after the repainting in only 6 months!
